We've got a number of regular run Definitly A Dunit models in-stock and
ready to go!
We also received a new shipment in last week... and WOW, these recent
paint jobs are different from previous shipments. The color has
additional lovely toasty-golden shadings across the body and many of them
have lovely facial shading.
We also found a number of interesting "slight variations"... in regard to
body shadings, leg bars, and overall body coloring. These variations
aren't notable enough nor consistent enough to comprise any special
definition, other than to say that many of them were charming... I wanted
to pick out several to keep for myself!
In any case... the existing previous Definitly A Dunit models we have in
stock are on sale until sold out!
PS9962-L-- Definitly A Dunit LSQ (2 copies) now $36.00
PS9962-P-- Definitly A Dunit PSQ (have a few) now $32.00

We just got a new shipment in from the Peter Stone Co!
We've received:
6 Color Me Scotch
6 Varnish Roan Appaloosas w/Sleazy Sleepwear
6 Woody ISH (Long Mane/Long Tail version)
Check out pictures/pricing of the new issues:

The Color Me Scotch model is very pretty. Although it's called "Light
Sorrel", the color actually appears to be more of a red dun. The Bay
Varnish Roan Appaloosa models show a wide array of variation in the
overall coloring, frost effect and spotting. These are very attractive
models, and the copies show just a hint of metallic color as well.

We just got a peek at the June Paint Horse Journal, and there's a nice
article about model horses in the current issue.
Featured photos include four from Rio Rondo, including the Parrs Dream
Doll portrait, as well as a photo of the real Parrs Dream Doll. Also
featured is a picture of a Peter Stone Ratchett (with a saddle by Terry
Newberry) and a working western photo of an older model I did eons ago
known as "High Lonesome".
As ever, the Paint Horse journal is a great magazine for sources of pinto
patterns to paint from for all artists (this issue is about 600 pages!).
If you get the opportunity, be sure to check it out...

more info as well as pix at http://www.riorondo.com/drawing/index.html.

winners (weaners?) have been notified, and a big thanks to everyone who

We've received a gorgeous batch of the new Lapis Lazuli models from Stone!
Take a peek at some pix at:
http://www.riorondo.com/peterstone/
We've only got a few copies, but these are some of the nicest Stone
Horses we've received to date... so nice we've categorized all but one of
them as "LSQ".
And speaking of categorization, we've gone through our inventory, and
sorted them out into three "grades" for the time being. This is so that
we can better describe what it is we have on hand.
LSQ--These are the best copies we've got, and are super-nice quality in
terms of overall color, seams, etc. Minimal flaws.
PSQ-- Small flaws here and there, but overall coloring is nice, and these
models should photograph well for photo showing, and be pleasing to the
eye upon the shelf.
TQ-- Toy or Body quality... these copies have notable problems with the
paint, finish or seams... some may be satisfactory for showing from only
one side...
We consider these suitable for toys or hard play, as well as good
prospects for customizing and repainting projects.
While we can't guarantee that any particular copy is perfect or
absolutely flawless, we do wish to convey more accurately what we've got
available.

We've also put up some pages showing a few Artisans' Hall "Providence"
variations...
http://www.riorondo.com/equigenesis/stonehorse/spec2000/artisanshall/
Also, on the variations page you will find some notes regarding the run
and some of the more notable variations that can be found within it.
In addition, a small assortment of unique/test/experimental or whatever
colors were painted at the factory, and you can find some pictures of
these at

No, we've got no foal yet!
I went to visit the mare this past weekend, and Mr. Stutzman and I
talked. Apparently I got my wires crossed and 3/25/00 wasn't the last
breeding date, but rather Mr. Stutzman's calculated foaling date (based
on when the mare was last bred). And still I left without knowing the
last breeding date....
So if you'd like to take another guess at things...
http://www.riorondo.com/drawing/
keep in mind, we'll be selecting a winner based on correct choice of
color, then gender, and then the nearest date (in that order) this time
around :)
"Sierra" is doing fine, and is quite content. Seeing her for myself, my
guess would be sometime this coming weekend or so, or early next week.
I've got my fingers crossed for anything "yellow" colored of course.
I did take pictures while I was there... a current photo of the mare (as
of this past Sunday), a couple of pictures of some brand new Definitly A
Dunit filly foals... one palomino, and one dun!
A new picture of Definitly A Dunit himself as well, who is home
temporarily for the breeding season.
I also went to visit Carl Thurow's place, and got a picture of his new
stallion "Vito" (this horse has quite the facial expression, particulary
in person, and that's how he got his nickname). I believe his registered
name is PHF Reality Check. There's several pictures of two of his colts,
with some great overo patterning. I also got to see a new full brother to
Okie Rio.
http://www.riorondo.com/newcolts/
Other related news....
The real "Parrs Dream Doll" was shown at National Western Stock Show, and
placed in 5 of the 8 classes she entered in a number of events. She'll
also be going to the world show in three events this summer... I
understand her owner will not be able to stay for the full show, but will
be able to exhibit Parrs Dream Doll in three of the events she is
qualified for. (I'm not sure which events as yet).
A full brother to Okie Rio will also be at the world show this year
competing in one event. Parrs Lazer will be there as well as others.
Ratchetts Parr earned his Superior All-Around last year as a 10-year old
by acquiring his final ROM needed in Barrel Racing.
We'll update you here as soon as we have any news about the new foal!
--Carol
....Carol Williams......rio1@...://www.riorondo.com
Well, no foal yet. At least, no phone call telling us there's a foal
yet...
If the date/time you predicted has passed, feel free to go take another
shot at predicting what's gonna pop this time. (And yes, by the book
she's a month overdue)
Carol's original prediction has passed, her new prediction is 4/1,
11:00pm. Her original prediction of a chestnut filly still holds (this is
based on past experience and Murphy's Law, though we're all hoping for
something yellow [not chestnut]).
-Gary
Well, it's time to drop a foal again, and that's a real live one, not a
resin. Carol's mare, Sierra, was bred to Definitly A Dunit a year ago
tomorrow, and we're waiting to see just what's going to hit the ground
this time.
Yes, we waited till we were right down to the wire before getting this
put together, but if you'd like to try predicting what the youngster is
going to be (color, gender) and when exactly it's going to enter the
world, point your browser to http://www.riorondo.com/drawing/index.html
and fill out the form.
The best guesser will get their choice of an unpainted Parrs Dream Doll
or Okie Rio body free of charge.
The winner will be determined based on the order of correct color,
correct gender, and closest date/time of birth (as determined by Jerry
Stutzman, owner of Definitly A Dunit).
Hey! Go hit the form, it's free and there's nothing to lose!
Just don't forget to hit that "put mine in" button at the bottom!
See yas all later,
-Gary
p.s., When he foal actually does arrive, I'm supposed to go help
lick it clean. (Boy, this is a weird job)
Just thought I'd let you know there's a western saddle set currently on
ebay by Terry Newberry.
I've seen a number of Terry's saddles in person, and they all show some
very fine workmanship.

of our tackmaking supplies... take a peek:

We've finally accounted for all of the previous/advance orders as we
could... and we're now able to offer weanlings for immediate shipment!
(well, unless things get a bit backed up again...)
Gary tells me he's got a pile of them now, Parrs Dream Dolls and Okie
Rio... looking for new homes, and ready for immediate shipment....
Prices are $120 each, ppd/insured (somewhat more outside of the USA,
depending on location)
"Six-packs" are available... mix or match, buy 5 at the regular price and
get the 6th for $50.
(Gary says if you REALLY want 12, he'll sell you 11, with the 12th one
free ;)
No per-person or per-order limits at the present time.
just email gary@... or use our online order forms if you're
wanting to get some of these without having to wait.
ALSO!
I am now taking advance RESERVATIONS, on HAIR-PREP versions of Parrs
Dream Doll and Okie Rio. These will come with no tail (but a spot marked
to drill to insert a wire tail or armature wire to build on) and no
mane/forelock. These will be suitable for adding haired manes and tails
*OR* for custom sculpting your own.
The price will be the same as above, and I'm anticipating we'll do about
1 mold run apiece of each (approximately 50-60 pieces.)
These are not currently available for shipping, but you can place
reservations for these if you are interested at this time. (email me,
sales@...).

but I do have basic information up on the 2000 Catalog runs and a few new

We've also sold out of all of the original-style Ratchetts. We don't have
any of the new crisp-mask version on hand as yet, though we should have
some later this year.
We DO, however, have some DEFINITLY A DUNIT's in-stock, the price is $36
+ shipping.... pictures are available at:

Also, I've added a few pictures (and will be adding more soon) to the

Hey there!
We've just finished adding a bunch of new items to the website!
Hardware Items:
We've been able to locate a few select goodies, including:
Small Lanyard Hooks in gold and silver color
Small S-Hooks in gold and silver color
Nickel and gold-colored buckle keepers-- new styles, now available
separately from our buckles.
End Crimps! These cute little crimps fit nicely on .5mm round lace, and
1/16" flat lace. Just crimp them onto the end of your lace, and then you
can bend the tip outward a bit to form a hook that will slip right over
your bits. These are very small and elegant findings that look super with
fine beaded bridles and halters!
1/4" Square Jump Rings-- great for cinch buckles (trad scale) and harness
fittings
Small Brass Name Plates-- attach these to leather stable halters, or the
back of the cantle on an english saddle.
These new items are put up on various pages throughout the site, however,
I've gathered all the new stuff onto one page so you can see it:
http://www.riorondo.com/info/news/newitems.html#hardware

Tools Tools Tools!
We've added some more tools as well. If you've had a hard time finding
just what you need, or it just so happens a good store is a long ways
away from you... check these out:
Excel Hobby Knife handles and blades-- like x-acto, just a different
brand. We've got 3 handle styles and two different types of blades.
Swivel Knife for carving leather... this special knife swivels and allows
you to make smooth and graceful cuts. It comes with a 3/8" straight
blade, but we're also carrying 1/4" angled blades (sometimes called
"filigree blades" which are the best blades for miniature carving.
[unfortunately, I don't have any specific information about how to
carve/tool leather on the site at the moment... but I'm hoping to have
some basic info up in the next month or two. Meanwhile, working on the
Carving book...]
Mallets -- Wood and Rawhide Styles to use with....
Leather Stamps -- A special selection of 12 Craftool brand stamping tools
that I recommend for small-scale leather work.
Needlenose Pliers-- with some of the smallest tips I've seen!
Round-Nose pliers-- check out how fine and small the tips are on these!
These will even allow you to make homemade buckles and findings from fine
wires smaller than 1/16".
Cutters-- all purpose small-sized cutters for snipping wire and metal
parts
Hemostats -- little locking scissor-type clamps that will hold parts
handily while glue is drying... so you don't have to and can move onto
other steps.
Sculpting & Modeling Tools-- Stylus/burnishers that work well to help
form and shape leather carvings, but also work equally well as sculpting
tools to work with clay or putty.
You can see a preview of all the new tools at
http://www.riorondo.com/info/news/newitems.html#tools
Currently the pricelists section of the website doesn't reflect any of
the new parts. This should be updated within the next week.
_______________
We've got all of the above items in-stock and ready to ship!
In the meantime, I'm working on getting these items onto flyers, and
we're reprinting more of the same old catalog once more. However we've
got plans in the works for a new catalog (and more new items) but... Rome
wasn't built in a day... and neither are catalogs! I don't expect new
catalogs to go to press before late fall 2000, and possibly later than
that. All in good time!
_______________
We've got a few Peter Stone Ideal Stock Horses available at this time.
We've got the Pretty Consecutive, Woody (short mane/long tail version),
Orange Smash and the original-style Ratchetts (as opposed to
extra-crispy). We are hoping to receive some Definitly A Dunit's within
the next month, and later the Millenium Horse.
http://www.riorondo.com/peterstone/
I also have a mare who is in foal to Definitly A Dunit, and I'm expecting
her to "pop" sometime in the next couple of months. Keep an eye on the
site for your opportunity to guess time and all that starting sometime in
February.
______________
I have a few more new painted weanling pictures to add to the galleries
in the next week or so as well by various artists. If you haven't been
there yet, be sure to stop by sometime! It is an absolutely wonderful
collection of paintjobs by over 25 different artists... and you can see
how each one treats the "subject" in a unique and special way.
http://www.riorondo.com/equigenesis/weanlings/gallery1.html
(and gallery2.html, gallery3.html and gallery4.html)
And now...
it's back to work for me (even at this late hour!)

Randy Buckler & Crew have been absolute angels this holiday season,
because we've been receiving a LOT of weanlings in here the past couple
of weeks! In fact, so many that we're rapidly plowing through the backlog
and getting these babies out to their new homes!
However, Gary's been getting a little "twitchy" here lately, because he's
left quite a few phone and email messages for people who haven't been
getting back to him....(and it's not just that big cup of espresso he
carries with him all over around here!)
He understands, of course, that many people have gone on vacation with
the holidays and all, and all that shopping has kept everyone busy...
Gary also knows there's quite a few people still waiting for their orders
to come up... and he's got a number of orders that seem to be... well....
ummmm... a bit "constipated" , and he'd MUCH rather make someone's New
Year's than wait much longer on some of these. (He's tired of cleaning up
after all these weanlings....)
If you placed an order for weanlings (primarily Parrs Dream Dolls) prior
to August 16 (the date the price changed) check your answering machine
and email box, because at this point you should have been notified that
your order is ready to ship. Gary *does* need to confirm your shipping
address and payment info BEFORE he will ship your items to you... they
will not automatically be shipped to you without you getting back to him.
(Gary says he doesn't want to ship your weanlings to the people who moved
into your old apartment or something!)
Meanwhile... Bessie is sitting here eagerly waiting to draw some more
names...

It's official!
The new Ideal American Stock Horse, produced by The Peter Stone Company,
and sculpted by Carol Williams is now in production! The fine folks at
the Stone factory are working like a herd of spastic elves getting copies
painted and ready as you read this!
The first copies of this mold will take the form of "Malachite", to be
the model at this year's Peter Stone Breakfast in Lexington, KY, on
Saturday, July 31, 1999.
This new mold features alternate tooling to provide options for a long or
short tail, as well as options for a long or short mane. The long
tail/long mane version will be the one used for the initial Malachite
run. A few special copies in test colors will be available at the Auction.
Regular Store runs will soon include this mold painted in the images of:
Ratchett
Definitly A Dunit
Pretty Consecutive
Orange Squash
Additionally, the Jamboree Special Run will be "Matinee Idol", a silver
grulla with overo paint pattern, and a store run for the Equestrian Shop,
a bay roan.
So... I suppose you are wondering just what does the actual model look
like?
Well, we've got a sneak peek waiting just for you:
http://www.riorondo.com/equigenesis/stonehorse/index.html
We'll be adding pictures of Malachite in the next few days... in fact,
for those of you who couldn't make it to BF this year, you might actually
see Malachite before those going to the Breakfast will...
we'll see if we can't get those pix up soon :)
You can also see pix of the live horse "Definitly A Dunit" at
http://www.riorondo.com/equigenesis/stonehorse/dunit/index.html
Will there be an Artisans' Hall run by Carol? Maybe so... we'll let you
know :)
Will Rio Rondo be carrying the new IASH mold? Yup!
Let me know if you're interested in the possibility of a set of all 4 of
the first-year runs, signed by the artist... just send us an email at
iash@...
Enjoy!

As of midnight, August 15th, the pricing on NEW ORDERS placed for the
Parrs Dream Doll and Okie Rio resins will be raised to $120 each.
ppd/insured. You can still get your order in meanwhile, into the Group 2
drawings. You will not be billed until your order is ready to ship though.
The original prices ($97+ $4.50 shipping/handling each) will hold for ALL
orders placed up through August 15th, regardless of when the order
actually ships.
We're still filling orders and doing drawings for the Group 1 weanlings.
If you have an order in those initial groups (orders placed during March
for Parrs Dream Doll, April for Okie Rio), whether you have received your
order yet or not, if you are interested in obtaining additional copies,
you can sign up at any time for a second order as part of the Group 2
drawings.
We are still limiting all orders to 3 bodies of each weanling per
customer per drawing, and will continue to do so until the production
circumstances improve.
At the present time, I can't venture to say when we'll get all the orders
shipped... I expect things to progress more rapidly after Breyerfest and
Jambo however.
We are expecting another small shipment of weanlings at the end of this
coming week, so we'll be drawing for those as soon as they arrive.
And remember, if you have received your copies and have had any of them
painted, be sure to send us a jpeg so we can see what it looks like! I've
been delighted to view all the copies I've seen so far and can't wait to
see more!

And before I forget....
I've finally completed the Parrs Dream Doll official portrait-- painted
in the likeness of her live horse counterpart. You can take a peek at

Just thought I'd share a bit o' trivia about the Parrs Dream Doll
resin....
Due to the numbers of orders received on this piece, we opted to have
several molds made so they could be run simultaneously. After the third
mold was made, a small section cracked on the tailhead of the original,
and it was sent back to me for repairs.
Looking at the crack, and also understanding the stresses some areas can
be subject to in the moldmaking process, the best fix to eliminate the
same crack from reforming (and slowing molding down) was to remove the
original tail, and replace it. Therefore... later moldings feature a
modified tail....that's the only thing that's different, and nothing
else... and it is similar to the first one as well. Admittedly, it's also
a bit easier to clean up and paint in that area.
So the subsequent 3 molds were made from the repaired version. Those
copies are currently shipping as well as copies from the original 3 molds.
Unfortunately, I'm not able to 'hand pick' any copies for any particular
order, but you can amuse yourself pondering which is which meanwhile :)
Of course, if you don't like either tail, you're welcome to customize it
to suit.
I can't tell you how many copies exactly have been produced of each type,
as the original 3 molds are still in use, and we didn't think to count
them when the modified versions started shipping.

A couple of weeks ago, we went to visit DEFINITLY A DUNIT, whose portrait
model will be produced by the Peter Stone Co. later this year, and shot
some new photos.
We thought you might like to take a peek at what this lovely young
stallion looks like at present, and how beautiful his color is! Definitly
A Dunit features the coloration and build found in the offspring of
Hollywood Dun It, as well as the expressive face, and sweet temperament.
Definitely A Dunit will be going off to the trainer's soon, and everyone
has high hopes he will continue the family legacy of cutting and reining
horses.
Definitly A Dunit is only two now, but he did end up with a moderately
sized book of mares to breed this spring (including my own mare) so we'll
be following this young stallion's career on our website as possible.
You can view Definitly A Dunit's photos and pedigree at:

Just got in some new Black Cowhide in, to go along with the brown and
white colors we already carry! This leather is medium-light weight, soft,
fine-grained and will work well for english saddles, protective boots,
harness parts etc.
Part #LCW2k -- $2.00 for 5x6" piece.
Larger pieces can be obtained in the dimensions you need (height x width)
at .04 cents per square inch (min. 100 sq. inches).
Also... new pricing on MD3 Snap-On Disc Mandrels,
former price= $4.50
new current price, $3.50
I use the mandrel with the Snap-On discs all the time for grinding off
larger areas of plastic, resin, epoxy putty etc.
Also, we were able to obtain another shipment of the Long Twist silver
ferrule beads #SF720 and so we've got them in stock and ready to ship
again!

if you'll send us an SASE....

And just to avoid making a second small posting to clog your mailbox
with...
We have recently found out that White Ramie (used for hairing models) is
no longer available to us. In fact, we're not even sure it is available
anywhere because as far as we know, it is no longer being manufactured :(
Meanwhile, I know we've got at least a few customers who like the "whiter
white" the ramie provides, as well as its ultra-fine fibers which tend to
work well for smaller scale models. We've been looking around for some
sort of alternative.
We did pick up some White Alpaca (MH5-aw) which we do have available now
for $1.00/ft. It is like the black alpaca, with shorter fibers than the
mohair, but the fibers are a little bit softer. The color is also a bit
whiter than creamy white mohair.
As to creamy white mohair, you CAN get it to be at least a couple of
shades lighter/whiter by simply filling your sink with hot water and
using a little liquid Ivory dishwashing soap. Just place the hair into
the water and swish it around for a few minutes. Carefully remove it,
wring out excess water and set it aside to dry (any handy towel rack will
suffice.)
Alternatively, you can use a couple of spoonfuls of laundry detergent
instead, along with a teaspoon full of RIT WHITEWASH to hot water, and
let the mohair soak in that about 15 minutes, then rinse, wring, and dry.
While the creamy white mohair does come to us relatively clean, we know
from experience it could be a little cleaner still. We've toyed with the
idea of offering the white 'pre-washed' so to speak, however that would
increase the cost per package to do so. Meanwhile, as we continue to
ponder that elusive question, I thought I'd let you know one way you can
wash it up yourself :)
_____________________
And finally, once more we ended up with a few oddball things after dyeing
the mohair...
I have 7 hanks of what should have been "dark brown" but ended up with
rusty-tan colored centers... so the hair itself is a combination of dark
brown, rust and tan. It's actually pretty neat to look at and I think
some people may find a use for it particularly on dun models.
Price is $1.25/hank, item #SPEC51. Available till they're sold out.
I do have a small bag of "odds and ends", some brown, some grey, some
golden chestnut...
$2.00 for the whole thing (#SPEC52) Only one available.
Please keep in mind that normal shipping charges apply (and small order
fee if applicable, for orders under $10).

Presently, the sales of the remaining copies of the "Arabian Park Horse"
Limited Edition resin are on hold. I am continuing the process of
painting custom orders I had accepted previously, and although progress
has been very slow due to other obligations interfering, I do expect all
of those will be completed by the millenium :)
Once this group of custom orders is completed, I will review the
situation here and determine how sales of the remainder of the edition
will be handled. Any new information or updates on this will be posted to
this news list (or a similar one if we move it) and will also be found on
our website at the appropriate time.
For those who have been incredibly patient regarding their custom orders,
I thank you profusely! I I will be working to complete your order as soon
as I can.

Due to numerous committments and a huge backlog, I am not able to take on
any further orders for painting services for any models (or resins)
including "Parrs Dream Doll" and "Okie Rio".
Until I am able to clear out previous committments, any "artist's choice"
copies of the weanlings I might complete will either be offered through
our website or on ebay. For those whom I have accepted to paint copies
for, I will still honor those orders, however, I am not able to say at
the present time when I will be able to complete them, however, you will
be contacted when I am ready to begin.

We're now accepting advance orders for the stock-type weanling colt "Okie
Rio". The advance order period will extend from April 1 through April 30,
1999.
You can order via mail, email, web, fax, phone... full details and photos
can be found at:
http://www.riorondo.com/equigenesis/weanlings/
As with the Parrs Dream Doll filly resin, we'll be holding drawings to
determine shipping order of the pieces, once we start receiving them.
Currently we are limiting customers to three copies. We consider all
'entries' or submissions to be orders, and that means you WILL get your
order filled, we just can't say exactly when at this point.
After April 30, any additional orders will be put into a secondary pool.
Customers may choose to reorder more copies at that time if they desire.
Meanwhile, we will fill all orders place in April before proceeding on to
new or repeat orders after that date.
Thanks!

While the advance ordering period has passed, to get into the first group
of drawings for orders placed in March, you CAN still order copies of
Parrs Dream Doll. We've established a second group for orders placed
after March.
Please note that the drawings are being held to determine SHIPPING ORDER,
not whether or not you'll receive a copy. We consider all
orders/submissions to be orders. As we receive shipments in we will draw
names from the March pool and fill what orders we can. Once all of the
orders placed in March have been filled, we will move on to taking care
of orders placed during April (and later). At the present time, we are
still limiting customers to 3 copies...
HOWEVER, we are accepting repeat orders, so if you were wanting more
copies, you *CAN* submit a new order for more copies in the April+
drawing.
If you wish to do this, please indicate in the comments field that you're
placing a second or repeat order.
As soon as we're able to get things squared away here regarding shipments
and supply etc, we will open up to taking larger orders from those who
are interested. At the present time, the price remains at $97.00 + $4.50
shipping/handling on each copy ($101.50 total). Please note that any
orders shipped to Kansas Addresses are subject to 5.9% sales tax ($5.99)
The Kalamazoo show is offering one copy there at auction... that copy has
been shipped and should be on display at the show, so don't miss your
chance to take an up close and personal look at this lovely weanling
sculpture! The winning bidder will be able to take this copy home with
them immediately (or have it shipped to them if they are not at the show
in person).
