Hello & Merry Meet !
I promised a friend of mine I would do this, so here goes.
She is very interested in moving to Great Brittain. She has a Masters in
Biology and teaches at a local University, but...and I quote, she "would
scrub floors to live in England".
Any tips, suggestions, or general info would be appreciated.
Many Blessings

Debbie,
That sounds really cute. At the last fair I went to I saw two little girls
dressed in somthing similiar. You might want to get angel wings. I saw a lot
of girls with those on and I think you can buy them at costume shops and
there were a few shops selling the wings. good luck

I have been thinking about making a "fantasy Renaissance dress" using the
children's pattern (Simplicity) that is for a fairy as a model. The dress is
a prom dress that looked like "under the sea", if you know what I mean. I'm
using the bodice (which is a satin, green, shiny material) and I'm going to
add a
skirt made of several layers of tulle, with strips of different colored and
iridescent tulle attached at the waist. Do you think it will pass for
Renaissance??? Any other ideas?
Debbie
Good day all!
I was looking for a vendor at the Bristol fair and I found this very
informative site that has links to a ton of different places! enjoy. I am
hoping to have my scanner hooked up this week so I can show you all pictures
from the Bristol fair.

Actually, my whole family LOVES it. We really want to learn more about all of
the faires and how we can learn to "talk the talk" and participate (we are
currently trying to find costumes for next year). I'm Christy, loving wife to
John, and mommy to J.T. (4), Micah (1), and ??? (due in January).
Hope I can learn something around here. Do any of you have any good Ren
Links? Internet Sites, or other lists that might help us as we seek to learn
more?
I look forward to meeting you all....
Sincerely,
Christy in VA

Thanks for the info. I also have some fun stuff to share...
I've been doing alot of searching on the web for costumes lately (getting
ready to sew 4 more outfits for our annual Ren Faire in Nov.) and I ran
across several websites that I wanted to share with you. Even if you don't
sew these costumes, they are neat to look at. I try to copy some of the
dresses, etc.

This site has some awesome bridal gowns and costumes. My fave is the green
Midsummer's Dress she custom made. It takes a while to download but is well
worth the wait.

Hi Debbie!
The Ohio Ren Fest is in Harveysburg, which is just north of Dayton off
Interstate 75...I'll include the URL for their website (it's awesome) which
will tell you everything you want to know (maps to get there, where to stay,
what the theme weekends are, vendors, etc. It's:

Hello
I go by the name of PendWitch. I am a beginning costumer.
I will be concentrating on the Early and Middle ages...Renn Fair type stuff.
Also Poet's / Buccaneer shirts, some 18th / 19th century frilly shirts and
stuff for the male Goths.
This is what I have had interest shown for. When I get it all made up and
see what sells is what will really tell.
I am basically going to keep it simple at first. Small, Med & Large.
I recently got a nice dress form in size C and am in the process of fixing
up a bedroom to be my Play Room.
I have 2 sewing machines and a Pfaff Serger is on layaway.
I live in Georgia and go to the Georgia Ren Fest. The parts that I liked
most are no longer there.
I went this spring for the first itme since it moved to the new location.
I liked the old much better. I will be going back in the fall since
several of the venders said it is much nicer then.
I am thinking of going to some of the surrounding state's Fairs next year.
Thank you for having me.
Many Blessings
PendWitch
Good day to all!
I happened upon this location. It shows where there are fairs in each state.
I hope this is informative!

Morning Everyone,
The faire I went to 4 years ago was at the Old Indiana Amusement Park around
Monticello. Unfortunately, that park got closed down about 2 years ago for
unsafe rides. I'm afraid I don't remember the name of the faire, and even
thought I've kept my eyes open, I haven't seen any others advertised. My
sister, brother-in-law, and best friend are also hooked on renfairs, so I search
with a hopeful heart to find one not 'too' far off.

Hi! Brand new to the list and still in my internet infancy, I bring you
salutations. I've only been to one fair in northern Indiana, and I loved
the whole experience. I live in Indianapolis, and hope to find some more
fairs through this list and even make some new friends.

Hi, Alisa, I'm new, too, and am looking forward to being a part of this
group. Please tell me where and when the faire is. I live in southern
Michigan.

Hi Teresa,
I visited your webpage and enjoyed the pictures. Where is the faire located
in Ohio (some big city that is close.) Is the Romance weekend the same
place, and can you tell me what is different about this faire as compared to
the first one?
I'm always looking for new ideas for the faire that our High School puts on
in Bronson, MI every Nov.
Thanks,
Debbie
My name is Teresa and I live in OH....of course, I attend the Ohio
Renaissance Festival and am planning on attending this year Aug. 29 (opening
weekend) and October 16 (Romance weekend) this year (and of course, in
costume) :)
If anyone is interested, I have pics posted of last year's fest on my web
page at:
http://home.talkcity.com/SpiritCir/wickett_1
The pics posted are from September 19th of last year--of course I'll post
more from THIS year's at a later date :) (after I remove the censored ones
;)
Happy to be a part of the list and look forward to meeting new friends
here....if anyone's going to go to ORF this year, please let me know--I'd
love to see you there!!!

I went to Hobby Lobby today and there is a brand new Renaissance pattern
that is not in the books. It is Simplicity: Elizabethan costume collection.
#0679. It was on a rack and it has the Eliz. ruff that I have been
searching for, so I was thrilled when I saw the pattern!
Also, I buy the Simplicity Costume catalog from the store. I use the
pictures in my Ren. book.
I would love to hear what patterns others use.
Debbie
I was at the fabric store yesterday and the employees were puting out
halloween stuff, so I asked if they had patterns for costumes. I proceeded
to
tell her that I wanted to make a costume for the Reniassiance fair, she said
that they had patterns and that making reniassance costumes are a big thing!
So go to your local fabric store and see what they have. (I was on a limited
time schedule so I did not look to see what they had).
If anyone on the list lives in the midwest, there are only three more
weekends for the Bristol Reniassance faire! in Bristol, Wisconsin (it is
right past Great America over the Wisconsin border) I am going on Sunday!
The URL for the fair is http://www.renfair.com/
The company that runs the Bristol faire also has faires around the country
so
maybe there is one near you!
I was informed by a merchant at the faire last time I was there, there is
a
great faire in Flint Michigan.
Thanks,
Angela

Welcome to the Ren fairs list! I think that this will great fun! Please
tell a little about yourself:
Name: Debbie Metzger
Address: Michigan
I sew Renaissance costumes for our local High School faire. This is our
third year. I have made 32 costumes so far. I love it and am looking for
any ideas, help, etc. that anyone has to offer. Each year I make more
costumes. This year I have to make four small outfits, and 2 large men's
outfit. My daughter is in the Acapella Choir, and they are the ones who put
on the faire.
I have yet to attend any other faires. I know that there is one in
Kalamazoo, MI, which I hope to attend next year. I would love to be able to
travel to the different faires.
I am looking forward to talking to others in this group.

Good Day!
It is great fun to dress up when you go to the Ren fair, however, it can be
expensive to buy costumes at the fair. Making your own costume can be fun and
cheaper too! You can find the patterns at fabric stores or craft stores.
Halloween is coming, so there are a lot of good ideas out there. I have
found a web page that has links for patterns for sale and ideas for costumes.
http://costumes.org/pages/16thlinks.htm
Also, be creative, use what you have and buy those key pieces to tie your
costume together. If your dress elaborately or simply it is fun to dress up!
