Re: River Oaks Center

The 7-8 theaters were originally 3/4 of a Jewel (a now-closed McDonald's takes
up the other 1/4). Looking at the mall map, it's very obvious that the 7-8
theater slot was once an anchor. One space in the Penney's wing was Evan's,
Maple Mysel's and Weiss Furs over time. It later became Steve & Barry's and is
now some urban hip-hop clothing store called The Look, which looks like it
really needs a slot about 1/2 that size. The food court used to be John W.
Smyth's, and I'm told the food court used to be in the basement.

In fact, here's a map I drew of it:

Vacancies:
1. Next to Fan's Edge: Nine West. Going out of business at the time.

2. End space below Sears: Ultra Diamonds. Also going out of business at the
time.

3. Big space next to Sears: Theater.

4. Next to LensCrafters: No idea. According to the Wayback machine, it was
vacant in 2003 too.

5. Next to Fannie May: Naturalizer.

6-8: Food court slots, top to bottom: KFC (later a local chicken shack), a
Chinese place, and Quizno's.

9. Bottom of map, below food court: Second theater complex.

10. Next to that: McDonald's. It looks like the theater took over about half of
the McDonald's at one point.

11. In the office tower: No idea.

12. Below Belvidere Blues: No idea. Some sort of restaurant with green trim. Was
vacant since at least 2003. I'm tempted to say either Ponderosa/Bonanza or a
local eatery.

... That's probably happening everywhere though it's probably worse with certain places. Also was that an outdoor mall at one time?...

... Yes it was. The layout is kind of screwy since like I said, two anchors are clumped next to each other (Carson's and Macy's), and you can still see where...

Carson's was not original to the shopping center and the store would not have been a legacy of Wieboldt's or Goldblatt's. It may have been part of the 1994...
