Just wanted to take a second and say 'thanks' for letting us join
and introduce our family.

We just moved up here from Beaufort, SC...

We have Isabella (hearing) 1 and 1/2 years old and Ayannah (hearing)
4 and 1/2 years old.

We are in the process of adopting(internationally) 2 boys that are
both deaf and are approx 5 and 7 years old.

We hope to have the boys home before Christmas and want to be as
educated and prepared as possible for homeschooling.

The girls all sign and I teach/Interpret on the side, part-time. I
was actually truly introduced to the idea of homeschooling from a
group of homeschoolers I taught American Sign Language to. It seems
like it will be the perfect fit for our family. I am looking forward
to the rewards and challenges of it all!

Ashley is my husband and is learning to sign but a little behind us
from deployments and everything (he is a combat engineer checking
into 2nd CEB this week.)

I look forward to meeting you all!

Parents,

I just wanted to forward this info to you in case you are unaware of some programs offered at the Onslow County Library for homeschoolers.  IF you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Carrie Meadows at the number or e-mail addy below.  The following is the e-mail that I received.

My name is Carrie Meadows and I work with the Onslow County Public Library.  Currently, I coordinate the Homeschool Storytime, offered on the 4th Monday of every month at 11:00 am.  Typically there is a 30 minute storytime followed by a 30 minute craft.  In the past I have had good success with this program, however, several families that were loyal attendees have moved from the area.  I am searching for ways to build up this program by working with local homeschool groups.  I would appreciate any input that you may have in how to expand the program.  I am open to any and all ideas and would love to establish a relationship with the large homeschool population that exists in Onslow County.

Sincerely,

Carrie Meadows

Dear Jacksonville Home School Parents,
I am pleased to announce that I will be able to offer School of Song classes at the USO in Jacksonville beginning on August 25th between the hours of 11am and 3pm (One day a week on Mondays.). There will be a couple of Mondays that will not be avaliable to us, but I will let you know in advance when that will happen. Please forward this email to your friends and let them know of the change. If you are part of the East Coast Home School Organization, Stacey Roberts will probably forward this message to anyone in the group.

Thank you,
Barbara Harper
Director
School of Song

P.S.
Below is a letter followed by Q & A that may answer any concerns you may have about School of Song.

School of Song

Choral music program for home schooled children

Dear Parents,

Are you in search of a quality activity for your home schooled child? Perhaps you would like to find an activity that provides an atmosphere for learning, social interaction and creativity? I am pleased to announce a new and upcoming choral program in Eastern North Carolina for home schooled children beginning August 2008. Classes will meet on Tuesdays, for fifty minutes each at the Twin Rivers YMCA in New Bern and Wednesdays at the Stage Struck building in downtown Goldsboro. The fee will be $5 per class, per child.

The purpose of School of Song is to teach the fundamentals of choral singing to children ages five to eighteen (Classes will be divided according to age). At the end of each semester, the children will perform the songs they have learned. The repertoire of a concert may include show tunes, pop, religious and art songs.

In May 2008, I will be graduating, with honors, from Mount Olive College (MOC) with a BS in Music Pedagogy (teaching). My past experience includes six years as an adult choir director and two years as a children’s music director at my church, and a semester of student teaching at Wayne Country Day. I was recently awarded the MOC Outstanding Music Student of the 2008 year. The following statements are from some of my music professors.

“Barbara Harper brings knowledge, technique, and passion to her choral program. Her enthusiasm for choral art exudes from every pore, and your children will find themselves just as enthusiastic under her professional and capable leadership.”

Alan Armstrong, Ph.D., Chair, Music Department, MOC (1996 - )

“It is my pleasure to recommend Barbara Harper to you as a music educator. Barbara is very responsible, diligent, and well prepared. She has a wide variety of musical skills, from singing to playing piano and conducting. I am confident that she will use these skills, coupled with her strong leadership skills, to educate your child and provide him or her with a positive musical experience.”

Dr. Brian Watson Assistant Professor of Music MOC (2005 - 2008)

As a mother of three boys, ages nine to seventeen, I understand the value of a good education. While reading, writing and arithmetic are necessary subjects for a child to master, music can be a beneficial asset to your child’s curriculum. Research indicates that music is closely related to mathematics and strengthens language arts skills. In 1990, Music Educators National Conference (MENC) noted that students who participated in music generally scored higher on SAT examinations. Finally, music provides a refreshing change from bookwork while stimulating the mind. I hope you consider making School of Song a part of your child’s development.

Please contact me before June 1st if you are interested or have questions about having your child participate in School of Song.

Sincerely,

Barbara Harper

The following are some answers to questions that have been asked by interested parents.

Q: What do classes entail?

A: Students will learn to read music, learn proper sing techniques, learn and perform choral repertoire that is age and skill appropiate.

Q: What ages do you teach?

A: 5-18

Q: What type of music will the children be singing?

A: For the Fall semester the reperotoire will include many Christmas and seasonal selections. In the spring the program will be a variety of selections such as pop, broadway, art songs, songs that promote self esteem, etc. Some choral selections will be of a religous nature due to the fact that music, historically, has its roots in christian religions. Though I am a christian, the purpose of School of Song is to teach the art of singing. I am not here to promote any particuliar religion and choral numbers will be as genarially christian as possible.

Q: Are all the age groups in one class?

A: The classes will be divided by age: 5-9, 10-13, 14-18.

Q: Do you commit for a semester or the whole school year?

A: One Semester at a time.

Q: Will there be a Christmas performance as well as a spring performance?

 A: Yes.

Q: Will there be a uniform?

A: Not at this time. It will depend on if the parents want to purchase performance outfits.

Q: I am not sure how your classes are divided out.  Are you accepting students for 50 minute classes or are students with you for the 3 hours?

A: Each class lasts for 50 minutes and will hold about 30 students at a time.

Q: What time will these classes be offered; during the brick and mortar school day or after?

A: Classes will be held at the New Stage Struck building in downtown Goldsboro on Wednesdays between the hours of 11am and 3pm, beginning August 27, 2008. Classes are also being held at the New River YMCA in New Bern on Tuesdays between 11 am and 2 pm. Also, until I get all the enrollment forms I have cannot set which hour each age group meets, however it will most likely be 11am-elementary, 12-middle school, 1pm-highschool.

Q: I was wondering if there was any room for negotiating a family fee, instead of a per student fee.

A: At this time the cost is $5 a lesson per child. If you have a larger family participating subtract 50 cents per child per day, going no lower than $3 per child per day.

Q: New Bern is so far away. Will you be able to hold classes in Jacksonville in the future?

A: I now have the USO in Jacksonville available for Monday practices.

Q: One of the many reasons parents chose to home school is parents know the educational content a child will encounter.  Will a list of the songs be provided before the child begins?

A: If a list is requested. I assure you all the choral literature will be appropriate for children.

Q: Do you plan/expect to provide CD’s of the songs to be practiced at home?

A: Only if I foresee that our limited practice time (one day a week) will not be able to prepare us for the concert at the end of the semester.

Morning everyone,
I received this info about a once-a-week choral music program (50 minutes per class) for homeschooled children (5-18 yrs old) late yesterday and thought that it might be of interest to you.  You would need to register for the program by July 1 (June 1 deadline is a typo) in order to participate this fall.  Classes begin at the end of August.  The kids will have a concert at the end of the semester.  There is a question/answer section at the bottom of this e-mail and a contact e-mail address if you have more questions or want to register. Have a good weekend.

Take care,
Stacey

I tried sending this to the email for Kelley but got it returned, so I’m posting here instead:

I have a 4.5 y/old in dance at Children’s Community Dance (or C.C. Dance) in Richlands.  Miss Michele is her teacher & we adore her.  Hannah did tumbling for 2 yrs w/Michele before dance this year.  She is patient and her expectations are always developmentally appropriate.  Hannah’s class is 30 mins ballet and 15 tap, with a touch of tumbling thrown in sometimes.  Classes are more specialized at older ages.  http://childrenscommunitydance.com/

I have also heard good things about Dance Theater/Classic Gymnastics on Doris Ave. in Jacksonville, but have no personal experience there.

My daughter took ballett in Richlands at CC Dance, we enjoyed it and depending on where you end up living it may not be too far.  Here is the link to their website. http://www.childrenscommunitydance.com/contact.php

I honestly don't know a studio, however the onslow
county recreation normally has classes in ballet and
other things. If this is her first time doing ballet,
this would allow her to try it out for a few weeks and
see if she really wants to do it.

Ladies, I highly recommend the Agape Leadership summer banquet to all who can go.  We participated last year and it was very nice. Every child goes forward and is recognized for whatever you want them recognized for. Chaz will be graduating also:-) Please let Carol know ASAP if you plan to attend.
Thanks,
Julie

Hello, All!

As the Summer Banquet is fast approaching, I'm getting very excited about all we've got planned to honor our children and our homeschools.  It has come to my attention that there may be some misunderstandings about the banquet and I wanted to make sure I clear all of that up since the ticket deadline is approaching next week.

The purpose of the Summer Banquet is to provide our homeschools and families with an opportunity to come together and celebrate the achievements of our children and our teachers.  Since we homeschool, there are few opportunities for grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. to see our children recognized for their efforts (whether they be academic, musical, etc.).  So, that is how the banquet was born.  It is designed for all of our children--NOT JUST SENIORS AND EIGHTH GRADERS--to come together, cheer each other on, and celebrate each others' hard work.  Every child in the homeschool group will be recognized for their achievement.  If people only attended the banquet when their children are graduating from 8th or 12th grade, I believe the intended spirit of this banquet would be missed.   The idea is for our children to realize that EACH YEAR is an academic milestone and should therefore be celebrated.  Now, that being said . . . the difference between Kindergarten, 8th, and 12th grade is that they get to wear a cap and gown.  Other than that (with the exception of seniors) each child's recognition will be equal.  As I'm writing, I want everyone to also understand that your child can be recognized for WHATEVER YOU wish them to be recognized for.  The most common is grade completion, but that doesn't mean that you have to use that.  It is completely up to your own discretion as to what you'd like your child to be recognized for.  This is why it is called the Summer Banquet and not the Graduation Banquet.

As an example for you each to ponder . . . suppose we only had one senior and one eighth grader, and only those two families attended the banquet.  Would those two students truly feel appreciated?  Would the banquet feel like something special to them?  Wouldn't they feel more excited to be surrounded by their best friends AND their family?  How many people would you like to have supporting your child in their special moment?  In essence, we need this to be a total group participation event.

I know several families went last year and I believe those families have a feel and a sense for what this banquet is about.  I'm concerned that I've miscommunicated the true purpose of the banquet and hopefully through what I've said here, it is more clear.  Now, after all of that, and TRULY--NO GUILT TRIP INTENDED--I do need a verbal RSVP as quickly as possible because planning this banquet is a large undertaking--as you can probably imagine.  The deadline for the money is the 13th, but if I could get an approximate head count, that would help greatly.  Here's the families I have so far that have said they were attending:

Oakley
Gehrke
Peter
Harvey
Robinson
Riehle
Raynor
Silence

If your name is not on the list above, I have NO idea that you're interested in coming.  I know there are a couple of you that have expressed your regrets and it is not necessary to re-express them, but those who are coming . . . please let me know ASAP.

You guys are awesome and I love each and every one of you.  I truly hope that you come and participate in the celebration . . .

This story is quite inspiring, hope you enjoy. We have so much compared to
the man in this story, or do we really? It will make you stop and think.

TO MEET SUCH A MAN

I sat, with two friends, in the picture window of a quaint restaurant just
off the corner of the town-square. The food and the company were both
especially good that day.

As we talked, my attention was drawn outside, across the street. There,
walking into town, was a man who appeared to be carrying all his worldly
goods on his back. He was carrying, a well-worn sign that read, 'I will
work for food.' My heart sank.

I brought him to the attention of my friends and noticed that others
around us had stopped eating to focus on him.  Heads moved in a mixture of
sadness and disbelief.

We continued with our meal, but his image lingered in my mind.  We
finished our meal and went our separate ways.  I had errands to do and
quickly set out to accomplish them.  I glanced toward the town square,
looking somewhat half-heartedly for the strange visitor.  I was fearful,
knowing that seeing him again would call some response.  I drove through
town and saw nothing of him.  I made some purchases at  a store and got
back in my car.

Deep within me, the Spirit of God kept speaking to me: 'Don't go back to
the office until you've at least driven once more around the square.'

Then with some hesitancy, I headed back into town.  As I turned the
square's third corner, I saw him.  He was standing on the steps of the
store front church, going through his sack.

I stopped and looked; feeling both compelled to speak to him, yet wanting
to drive on. The empty parking space on the corner seemed to be a sign
from God: an invitation to park.  I pulled in, got out and approached the
newest visitor.

'Looking for the pastor?' I asked.

'Not really,' he replied, 'just resting.'

'Have you eaten today?'

'Oh, I ate something early this morning.'

'Would you like to have lunch with me?'

'Do you have some work I could do for you?'

'No work,' I replied. 'I commute here to work from the city, but I would
like to take you to lunch.'

'Sure,' he replied with a smile.

As he began to gather his things, I asked some surface questions. Where
you headed?'

' St. Louis ..'

'Where you from?'

'Oh, all over; mostly Florida ..'

'How long you been walking?'

'Fourteen years,' came the reply.

I knew I had met someone unusual.  We sat across from each other in the
same restaurant I had left earlier.  His face was weathered slightly
beyond his 38 years.  His eyes were dark yet clear, and he spoke with an
eloquence and articulation that was startling  He removed his jacket to
reveal a bright red T-shirt that said, 'Jesus is The Never Ending Story.'

Then Daniel's story began to unfold.  He had seen rough times early in
life.  He'd made some wrong choices and reaped the consequences.  Fourteen
years earlier, while backpacking across the country, he had stopped on the
beach in Daytona.  He tried to hire on with some men who were putting up a
large tent and some equipment.  A concert, he thought.
He was hired, but the tent would not house a concert but revival services,
and in those services he saw life more clearly.  He gave his life over to
God

'Nothing's been the same since,' he said, 'I felt the Lord telling me to
keep walking, and so I did, some 14 years now.'

'Ever think of stopping?' I asked.

'Oh, once in a while, when it seems to get the best of me   But God has
given me this calling.  I give out Bibles. That's what's in my sack.  I
work to buy food and Bibles, and I give them out when His Spirit leads.'

I sat amazed. My homeless friend was not homeless.  He was on a mission
and lived this way by choice. The question burned inside for a moment and
then I asked: 'What's it like?'

'What?'

'To walk into a town carrying all your things on your back and to show
your sign?'

'Oh, it was humiliating at first. People would stare and make comments.
Once someone tossed a piece of half-eaten bread and made a gesture that
certainly didn't make me feel welcome.  But then it became humbling to
realize that God was using me to touch lives and change people's concepts
of other folks like me.'

My concept was changing, too. We finished our dessert and gathered his
things.  Just outside the door, he paused.  He turned to me and said,
'Come Ye blessed of my Father and inherit the kingdom I've prepared for
you.  For when I was hungry you gave me food, when I was thirsty you gave
me drink, a stranger and you took me in.'

I felt as if we were on holy ground. 'Could you use another Bible?' I
asked.

He said he preferred a certain translation. It traveled well and was not
too heavy.  It was also his personal favorite.  'I've read through it 14
times,' he said.

'I'm not sure we've got one of those, but let's stop by our church and
see'. I was able to find my new friend a Bible that would do well, and he
seemed very grateful.

'Where are you headed from here?' I asked.

'Well, I found this little map on the back of this amusement park coupon.'

'Are you hoping to hire on there for awhile?'

'No, I just figure I should go there. I figure someone under that star
right  there needs a Bible, so that's where I'm going next.'

He smiled, and the warmth of his spirit radiated the sincerity of his
mission.  I drove him back to the town-square where we'd met two hours
earlier, and as we drove, it started raining.  We parked and unloaded his
things.

'Would you sign my autograph book?' he asked. 'I like to keep messages
from folks I meet.' I wrote in his little book that his commitment to his
calling had touched my life.  I encouraged him to stay strong.  And I left
him with a verse of scripture from Jeremiah, 'I know the plans I have for
you, declared the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you;  Plans
to give you a future and a hope.'

'Thanks, man,' he said. 'I know we just met and we're really just
strangers, but I love you.'

'I know,' I said, 'I love you, too.'  'The Lord is good!'

'Yes, He is.  How long has it been since someone hugged you?' I asked.

'A long time,' he replied

And so on the busy street corner in the drizzling rain, my new friend and
I embraced, and I felt deep inside that I had been changed.  He put his
things on his back, smiled his winning smile and said, 'See you in the New
Jerusalem.'

'I'll be there!' was my reply.

He began his journey again.  He headed away with his sign dangling from
his bedroll and pack of Bibles. He stopped, turned and said, 'When you see
something that makes you think of me, will you pray for me?'

'You bet,' I shouted back, 'God bless.'

'God bless.' And that was the last I saw of him.

Late that evening as I left my office, the wind blew strong. The cold
front had settled hard upon the town.  I bundled up and hurried to my car.
As I sat back and reached for the emergency brake, I saw them...a pair of
well-worn brown work gloves neatly laid over the length of the handle. I
picked them up and thought of my friend and wondered if his hands would
stay warm that night without them.

Then I remembered his words:  'If you see something that makes you think
of me, will you pray for me?'

Today his gloves lie on my desk in my office.  They help me to see the
world and its people in a new way, and they help me remember those two
hours with my unique friend and to pray for his ministry.   'See you in
the New Jerusalem,' he said.  Yes, Daniel, I know I will...

If this story touched you, forward it to a friend!

'I shall pass this way but once. Therefore, any good that I can do or any
kindness that I can show, let me do it now, for I shall not pass this way
again.'

My instructions were to send this to four people that I wanted God to
bless and I picked you.  Please pass this to four people you want to be
blessed.

This prayer is powerful and there is nothing attached.  Prayer is one of
the best gifts we receive.  There is no cost but a lot of rewards.  Let's
continue to pray for one another. God bless and have a nice day!

'Father, I ask you to bless my friends, relatives and e-mail buddies
reading this right now.  Show them a new revelation of your love and
power.  Holy Spirit, I ask you to minister to their spirit at this very
moment.  Where there is pain, give them your peace and mercy.  Where there
is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence through your grace, In Jesus'
precious Name Amen.'

I sent this to more than four, but this story is so touching I felt each
of you would enjoy it greatly.

GOD BLESS YOU !!!

McDonald's CEO: Company will put full resources behind gay agenda

Send an e-mail to McDonald's.

McDonald's has signed on to a nationwide effort to promote "gay" and "lesbian" business ventures.

According to McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner, McDonald's will aggressively promote the homosexual agenda. In remarks on McDonald's Web site concerning the company becoming a member of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), Skinner wrote: "Being a socially responsible organization is a fundamental part of who we are. We have an obligation to use our size and resources to make a difference in the world...and we do."

The company gave an undisclosed amount of money to the NGLCC in return for being recognized as a major promoter of the homosexual agenda. In return, NGLCC placed Richard Ellis, vice president of communications of McDonalds USA, on the NGLCC Board of Directors.

Ellis was quoted as saying: "I'm thrilled to join the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce team and ready to get to work. I share the NGLCC's passion for business growth and development within the LGBT community, and I look forward to playing a role in moving these important initiatives forward."

McDonald's refused to comment to World Net Daily on the placement of its executive on the board of the "gay" advocacy organization but did send an e-mail confirming the corporation's support for the agenda of the homosexual business lobby.

"McDonald's is indeed a Corporate Partner and Organizational Ally of NGLCC. Our vice president of U.S. communications, Richard Ellis, was recently elected to its board of directors," said Heidi M. Barker, senior director of media relations for McDonald’s. NGLCC describes itself as promoting the LGBT community first and always, including same sex marriage.

NGLCC gives credit to sponsors such as McDonald's for its financial and other support that helps in its work. "Through the commitment of our corporate partners, the NGLCC has been able to advance the ideas and causes of the LGBT business community," the Chamber said.

Take Action

  • Very important! Call your local McDonald's and ask why McDonald's is using its size and resources to promote the homosexual agenda.

  • Send an e-mail to McDonald's.

  • Forward this e-mail to family and friends.

The Need:
500 Community Judges, of all Backgrounds and Experience
Training Provided for all Events

The Commitment:
3 hours of your Time: Thursday, Friday or Saturday
March 27th, 28th, or 29th, 2008

The Location:
Lake Norman Baptist Church

The Organization:
Huntersville Speech & Debate Club, which participates in the

The Blessing:
By investing your valuable time in our young people,
you are helping to develop important communication
skills in our future leaders.

Dear Prospective Judges,

Community Judges represent a key ingredient for the successful implementation of
our NCFCA Speech and Debate Tournament. Our students, ages 12-18, use this
tournament as an opportunity to polish their public speaking and debating
skills. In
addition to donations from local business and churches, our greatest need is to
recruit
over 500 community judges. Obviously, you are very important to the success of
our
tournament, and we are asking for three hours of your time. You will be provided
judges
training, access to talented students, stimulating entertainment, and tasty
refreshments.

Students who qualify at this event will proceed to the Regional Invitational in
Georgia on April 23-36, 2008. There they will compete for an invitation to the
NCFCA
National Tournament in June. Our kids cannot do this without your help and the
support
of their community. If you can spare three hours during any of these days, it
will be
greatly appreciated and, more importantly, it will be an investment in the lives
of
these young people as they train to be our future leaders. I hope that you will
consider
helping us again this year, or perhaps for the first time. We can't do it
without you!

Sincerely,

Susan Nelson

Hello. I went to the eye doctor: he said that the healing process is
taking place: that on the top inside of my eye looks like erruption
most likely due to the healing process from the eye drops and that the
cornea of my eye (this is a praise item):: looks intact so far. he told
me to continue the drops and meds and what to look out for: he told me
that if any of the problems arise that I am to look out for: to call
and go to him immediately, otherwise I go back in 3 weeks on april 9th:
so continue to pray for me and thanks for all your prayers: for anyone
that does not understand or know: this is not contagious to anyone.

God Bless, Donna Riggs

Please continue to pray: we went to the eye doctor: I have an
inflamatory eye conditon that has covered my right eye, eyelid, eyebrow
and sourounding my eye as well: got meds and pain meds too: pray for
healing: it was very close from going into the cornea of my eye which
would have been very dangerous, so thank God it did not: we have to go
back on wednesday for the eye doctor to recheck my eye. Kimbelry and I
will not be able to start keepers with you all on monday: I am sorry:
we will just have to start next month in april: I need to rest all I
can and we really need to get school started again next week before we
take off for a few days for Easter as well as prepare for the CAT
testing in april and getting done with 6th grade in may. thanks for
your understanding and prayers. God Bless, Donna Riggs
