Dear Steve,
The translation is finally ready. We have been very meticulous with it
since I have submitted it to JewishGen for posting on their site. I am
attaching it as a file herewith. Hope you enjoy it. While it is not a
complete translation, it deals with the essential parts. Read the Translators
Note. The material on the Holocaust and the partisans will probably not be
new to you, but the rest may be and overall, I think it gives a very good
feeling for what life was like in 18th and 19th century Radoshkowitz. I am
intrigued by the fact that 7 Ruderman families are listed under Martyrs -
lost during the Holocaust. Since families with the same name in a small town
like Radoshkowitz were undoubtedly related to each other, it seems likely
that they are related to me, too. Only how do I make the link? One of them
even has my name and that of my grandfather -- Ya'acov Ruderman.
     Keep in touch.
      Jerry

Dear researchers!
As I have spoken today with Tzila Zilburg, one of Radoshkovichi
surviviours, she would like to arrange a meeting at her home, when she and
other survivors, she would invite will tell their story about the
destruction of Radoshkovichi, and about the people the knew there.
All the researchers who live in Israel, and who are destined to be here,
during October when she would like to do that are invited. You can also
inform your relatives in Israel about the event.

All:
I'd like to take the liberty of letting you know about my new
website.
It is primarily an autobiography site, not a genealogy site, but it
ALSO contains stories and genealogy information for my gf, ggp, and
gggp from Radishkovitch (as well as other ancestors from Timkovichi,
Berlin, Ohio and South Dakota.) I guess this is my answer to the
question of "what do you do with genealogy information once you've
got
it?"

I welcome both positive and negative comments, responses and
suggestions. (While approaching completion, the site is still a work
in progress and new information is always valued.)

To view the web site, click on the address below (or copy it into
your

When you get there, click on "Ancestors" and scroll down to see
pictures and information about the Radishkovitchers.

I hve obtained a very detailed 1896 book in Russian about Vileika and Disna
Uyezds in today's Belarus, whose title is loosely translated as "Material on
the history and geography of Disna and Vileika Uyezds - Vilna Gubernia." It
is in Russian, 262 pages, plus 144 pages of footnotes. It is NOT focussed
primarily on Jews and matters of particular Jewish interest, but may,
nontheless, be very useful, in my opinion. The author was A. [Aleksei]
Sapunov. The book was published in Vitebsk in 1896. TITLE Materialy po
istorii i geografii Disnenskago i Vileiskago uiezdov Vilenskoi gubernii /
Izdanie A. Sapunova i kn. B. Drutskago-Liubetskago., PUB. INFO Vitebsk:
Gubern. Tipo-Litogr., 1896. DESCRIPTION 262, 144 p. : ill. WID-LC
DK505.9.V55 S27 1896x

The book neads to be perused and read by someone literate in Russian. I
would be happy to provide a copy to someone who has the requsite skills and
interest, who could at least advise as to parts of the content that may be
most useful to jewish genalogical researchers.

Hi,

I was reading your message on the one-list archive, and I was
wondering who your great-grandfather and grandfather were who
may have been involved in establishing this shul?

I've heard the same thing about my g(2)grandfather, Frank Cohen.
I also have a number f relatives who are buried in Beth David
in this society's area.

Thanks,

I've been trying to help a member of our JewishGen group who does not
have a computer. She has a document in old Ukranian which is a
temporary passport for her grandfather to travel and it appears that the
town is Radiskovich and the seal indicates either Vinnitska Gubernia or
Vinniskyia Gubernia. The date is January 16, 1904. Is anyone familiar
with a town called Radiskovich? I may be mispronouncing or misspelling
the town as the area is hand written. I cannot read the
Russian/Ukranian and have asked for help from several Russian relatives,
and they too have had difficulty in making it out. Does anyone in the
Ukranian SIG have any information on an area by this name?

Everybody I have shown the passport to tells me it is in old slavic. It is
an official document entirely in slavic. Printed form watermarked 1904. I
have been told that this is an internal passport allowing one to travel
outside town. Issued in rado

To Dan Katz & Milt B....

My family was involved in the Chevra Torah Anshei Radoshkovitz and I (as
well as several of my cousins) were bar mitzva'd there. (My bm was
April, 1956). My grandfather was Mottel (Max) Novadoff (originally
Novodworsky). My great gf (Mottel's father) was Ziesel (a/k/a Jacob)
Novodworsky (a/k/a Novadoff, Navidoff, Navidov). My great gf was one of
the founders. This was confirmed to me by a very aged congregation
president when I was bm'd. For info my great gf's male offspring were
Moishe/Morris, Hymie/Herman, and Samuel. There were also several
daughters. My gf's male offspring were Velvel/Willie, Heshie/Herbert,
and Shleime/Samyel/Stanley (still living) plus daughters.

I'd be extremely interested in any info in the landsmanshaffen/shul
files that Milt referred to.

Happy New Year...

Often they are not members of this list.

This is the case with the rado shul

The only rado nyc connection I have is some material on rado i found in the

Hi Steve!
I receive your parcel with copy of the book.
First 70 pages describing geography of the area.
Mostly rivers, lakes and creeks of any significant size.
Second part page 71-261 describing history of the area.
The only personalities mention by name there are Christian
royalties (polish or Russian) or nobility (shliahta).
Jews of the area are hardly mention at all.
I manage to find some indication of Jewish presence.
Page 88 lines 12-25.
Radashkovich described on pages 248-252
Vileyka (old Kurenetz) pages 181-185
Ilya pages 199-200
Kurenetz pages 211-213

I don't know personally people you mention in your letter.
Some of them public personalities and I new about them from mass media.

Hi all!

I am curious about the "nobility" listings. It is my understanding
that the Radzivilles (Jackie Kennedy's sister was married to one of
them) are associated with Nisovich (Nezvizh) south of Radoshkowitz.
But I heard that they owned a lot of land in the Radoshkowitz-
Kurenetz region as well.

Is there any mention of the Radzivilles in the Vileika book?

Thanks, -- Joel D. Isaacson

Dear Moses, cousins & fellow Radoshkovichi researchers,
Since this planned meeting in Israel could help more than just the
Sheinhouse researchers, I've made copies of your message for the rest of
the people interested in Radoshkovichi.
Moses you are still writing to my old E-mail address. This is to be
canceled by my IP shortly.
Would you all please eliminate: <gen@...> from your address books
and replace it with: <gen@...>
You had asked each of us to pose questions for this upcoming meeting. I
would suggest trying to identify the parents and grandparents of those
families listed in the Radoshkovichi Yizkor Book as a primary first question.
The next question should be to identify what cities any listed families
moved to after and before the war. This will help to aid us in contacting
possible relatives of those listed.
For myself and my cousins Sue, Abe and Linda, I think our next goal should
be to locate the descendents of Schmuel Sheinhouse.
Happy New Year & New Century,
Steve
======================================================
As you might remember, I already wrote you about the meeting at the home
of Zila Zilburg for Radoshkovichi researchers. It was several months ago,
but only now the meeting is available. It is planned to 9.1.01, the closer
Tuesday at her home in Rishon-Lezion.

People born in 1913 are due to
attend the meeting. They will tell the history of Radoshkovichi, of the
people slained there by the Nazis, and the history of the families, who
left this place. If you have any special requests you can send them me by
two closer days.

Sincerely, yours.
Moses Varshavsky

P.S. Zila told me, that she has a Scheinhaus relatives from Molodechno, who
today live in Canada. I would try to ask her for more details during her
story.

This note is being sent to all of the researchers of Radoshkovitchi also
called: Radoshkov, Radoshkovich, Radochkovitchi,Radoshkowitz.

Up until now I thought my own personal research of my paternal
grandfather's family was on very firm ground, but a disturbing revelation from
Vitaly Charny disturbs this.

At the time that the first 55 town names of the Vilieka Uyezd (district)
were added to the Shtetls of Belarus data base, some corrections were also
sent.

Radoshkovitchi had been previously listed as being part of the Minsk Uyezd
and I naturally asked Ed Rosenbaum to change it. He advised that the
original listing came from Vitaly Charny.

As the change had still not been made as of last week, I wrote to Ed and
Vitaly for a clarification. The answer has cleared the problem on the
Shtetls of Belarus, but it has also left each of us with an added puzzle.

There are two places called Radoshkovitchi. The major location is 21.9
miles NW of Minsk at map coordinates: 5409 2714.

The second town, or to be more exact, the portion of the town: Petrishki,
which was called Radoshkovitchi is located:

a little bid west (1-2 km) from half way between Radoshkovitchi and
Zaslavl. This location as Vitaly originally said, is in the Minsk Uyezd.

This gives each of us an added problem. Do our families come from the
second largest city of the Vilieka Uyezd or from this section of the
smaller town. At least for my cousins in our group and the other
researchers of the variations of the SHEINHOUSE name, we know that at least
part of the families we are researching came from the major city, because
the name is clearly in the Yizkor book:

http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/radoshkovichi/radoshkovichi.html

Abe Liboff's father told him that our family had property in Minsk, so its
possible that my family or yours may have also come from that section of
Petrishki.

Warmest regards,

Steve

Dear Fellow Radoshkovich Researcher:
I have a very rare history and description of Radoshkovich published in 1896
in Russian, 2 pages, that has never been translated into English. Are you or
someone you know willing/able to translate this? It is not specifically
about the Jews of Radoshkovich, but I believe it is the only history of the
place from such an early date. Please contact me if you are able to help.

Dear friend,
I have just been told that Baruch Shepsenwohl of Radoshkovich had a son Joel
who is alive and lives somewhere in the United States and is writing a book.
Do you have any knowledge of Joel, and do you know how I can contact him?
Thanks for any information.

Subject: Belarus Records in Vilna Archives
From: "David M. Fox" <fox@...>
Date: Sat, 03 Mar 2001
On March 1, the JGSGW called a special meeting to hear Kahlile Mehr, the
FHL Collection Development Specialist for the countries of the former
Soviet Union, give an update on filming efforts. Those of you you
attended the IAJGS Conference in Salt Lake City last July may have heard
Kahlile at that time. He is the person who recommends what is to be film
in the archives Vilna, Grodno, and Minsk as well as those in the Ukraine
and other FSU countries.

He announce that the filming of Jewish vital records in the Vilna
archive had been completed, but that they had not all been catalogued
yet and therefore were not available for viewing in the FHCs. It could
be several months before this happens. I asked him about the filming of
Revision Lists in the Vilna archive and he said that the FHL planned to
film these also, but would not commit to a time when this would be
completed.

Mr. Mehr said there were two FHL cameras in Belarus at this time. One
was in Grodno and the other in Minsk.

The FHL pays the Belarus National Historical Archives xx cents per
frame and provides them with a copy of the microfilm.
