Wow, this is certainly some major news. I'm not positive but Aaron is probably
the senior statesman of broadcasters in Montreal at this point in time. I stand
to be corrected on this but 26 years is certainly quite a run.
I didn't hear the announcement myself. I look forward to hearing more about this
decision and the reasons behind it.
Given the change of ownership of Q-92 from Corus to Astral, people might
speculate that this had something to do with his decision. Hopefully we'll hear
more. It does seem to come at a time when Q-92 is doing very well for itself in
the ratings. I certainly hope that it is simply a personal decision to move on
to other things.
I personally believe that when the history book is written on Montreal English
radio, Aaron Rand will probably deserve a chapter of his own. I feel that his
ground-breaking afternoon drive show on the old CFCF/CIQC 600 is still one of
Montreal radio's shining moments in broadcasting.
Whatever he's headed to next, I wish Aaron all the best and thank him for his
years of service to the community.
