I have a Midland 70-1632A.  I have the 10 pin plug, XTR software version 3.1  I built a RS232 to TTL converter with a MAX232 chip using the schematic from krasnodar.online.ru

I have a B.O.B. monitoring the RS232 line.  I can not get a response from the radio.  Do I need to have the radio in a programming mode by pushing a sequence of buttons on the control head?  Or is there something that I'm not seeing?

Thanks,
John

If you use Maxtrac Lab . It will still give the Mismatch error
but it will program the radio . You will have 2 radios with the
same serial numbers. The radio ID for signaling
is part of the serial number. You can change the ID in the software. If you save the codeplug per radio, you have to save to different loc because of the ser#  One other thing
the serial numbered codeplug also has the tune info for that
radio. If you clone a hack codeplug the other radio has the
be realigned because the tune data was for the first radio.

Maxtrac question:  I have two Maxtracs to reprogram.  I read one of the
radios, modified the codeplug, and reprogrammed the radio fine.  However, I
cannot program the second Maxtrac, Error 30 Serial Number Mismatch.

How do I get around this w/o having to rewrite the entire codeplug?  There
doesn't seem to be a clone option like the GP300 or HT1000 radios have.
The only clone option is 'Clone Serial Number from Archived File'.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Vic,

Nice one. The programming software would be a great help.

The technical manual shows the pins in the mic socket as: RX, TX,
MIC, GND, PTT and LS(Loudspeaker?). I am guessing the RX and TX is
what we are after. Not sure if its direct RS232 or if it needs to be
converted to use PLL or other forms of comms. Will send u a PDF of
the service guide when I get home (3 hours to go!!!). Lots of
_useful_ stuff in there. If all else fails I might just hook the
eeprom onto my programmer and play with it manually but I dont want
to do that too much, working in HEX gives me headaches! :)

Speak to you later,

Luke.

Hi Luke,
I have some software for the beastie but no connection details
i.e. connection data. I guess there will be ground, data in, data out, and
possibly a link to tell the radio it is connected to the programming kit. I
have various RIB's that are RS232 compatible so could use them for the level
translation so all we need is the connection info. I also have the
programming manual but it doesn't even hint at the connections! Let me know
what you find and lets share resources.

Hi Vic,

Thanks for the reply. I am wondering how easy it would be to make
the required cable(s) for the programming. I will post a link to the
service manual when I get home from work tonight. The manual says its
just a RS232 link to the Mic connector. Hopefully someone has more
info on this and perhaps some software too.

Thanks,

Luke

Hi Luke,
I, like you have two of these nice looking sets but mine are
VHF. I believe they are rebadged E F Johnson radios that were sourced in
Asia. The UHF ones were available in the Netherlands as 'surplus' and a ham
out there re wrote the eprom so that it was usable in the UHF 70 cm band with

all the bells and whistles required for ham operation. If you find original
programming kit let me know. I may come into possession of some soon but how
soon soon is I don't know!

Hi there,

I'm new to group so I would first like to say hello to everyone.
Hopefully this will give me a chance to learn something new. :)

Now to the point, I have 2 Philips P1012s which are pre-programmed
with 2 channels. I am looking for the software and cable diagrams so
that I can program these units. I understand the software only
permits certain frequencies but I dont think that will be a problem
as I have anvanced assembly language under my belt. :) Primarily I
would just like to get these units to have a slightly wider range of
channels and perhaps have the units tune to slightly more interesting
frequencies. If anyone has any info, please help if you can, it will
be very much appreciated.

Now for the second request... user manual. I have the service manual
for these units but I really need something that goes into some form
of instructions on how to use them. IE I see M0 sets the encoding?
How do I use that? Once again, any info will be very much
appreciated.

If you wish to contact me by email please use: gav@...

Thank you very much,

Luke.

Please Send me a picture.

I just installed 4 units made by Teledyne [I BELIEVE] that had strang
TNC like connectors that had an N adapter-cable (with odd-ball on
other end) to attach to the antennas.

Tedd And the other gentlemen,

I tried to see the pictures at Tedd's web site too late (not there
now) so I do not really know what it looks like, but I have a
suspicion...

I recently (April 2002) installed several 900 MHz units at a local
creamery here in Humboldt County, CA, USA. I believe they were sold
by Teledyne.

I remember seeing a number on the adapter, but can't recall what it
was. Not BNC or TNC or N or F. "M or W? something"????

They also had tnc-like connectors on them (but too large), then an N
adapter to the antennas (the antenna had to be mounted in a -40
Degree Farenheight Freezer, so the box [which had internal heaters]
was mounted in another room using a 5 foot length of cable).

Could you send me a picture of your connectors?
I could check arround, but I do know that the cable was made
by "Times Microwave".

I'm sure you have heard of them. They make cellular cables for cell
sites. Perhaps they have the connectors, or an industry type number
(maybe even MIL-Spec?)
