Is anyone familiar with Motorola MTS2000 fail codes? My boss
approached me today and requested I look into this radio that will
only turn on and beeps during self test. It flashes an error
code "Fail 01/81" Any ideas? Thanks, David

Thanks all for the info!
This radio came out of service as defective. Presumably its programming is
correct.
Since I have yet to build / buy the interface for it I can't tell.
BTW, is the software at hackersrussia.com the latest version?
As regards the electrolytic cap which was mentioned as being prone to leaking,
where is it located,
physically... e.g., "next to the green coil", etc.? Assuming that it has yet to
leak and give away its
location, perhaps a value (uf and working volts) would also help me to identify
it.
As an aside, I've seen this same kind of leakage problem in the GE MLS radios on
the Tone / Audio board.
The three 47uf caps (the blue ones) are only rated for 85deg.C and it looks like
heat and age get to them.
Swap all three if you have low or distorted received audio or weird behavior
with the tone decode.
Actually, as a precaution, if they're blue... swap'em! Even if they look
good... they >will< eventually fail
and that gook likes to eat the little plated through vias which connect the
component side traces to the
ones on the solder side.
Use caps rated for 105deg.C and they should hold up... even GE got that message
and eventually started
using them in the later series MLS radios.
Thanks again!
Stan

usually you just have to reajust the VCO inside the radio to work on the
freq range you are trying to program.

Im sure ill be flamed for not suggesting you use thousands of dollars in
test and analyzation equipment, but not everyone has the resources or can

If you are getting the E3 error its probably because you are trying to
program a freq that the VCO is not currently tuned for.
You can use the TX and RX
pod inside radio to retune the VCO.
the radio will give you SQ static when it is tuned for rcv.
and you can use a monitor radio tuned to same tx freq and tune the tx pod
until you can transmit and talk to the other rcvr that is tuned to that
freq. Its a little crude, but it works fine.
Im sure ill be flamed for not suggesting you use thousands of dollars in
test and analyzation equipment, but not everyone has the resources or can

Hi there,

I have a couple of radios that are 16 channel capable, They are
Midland 70-136 /C VHF portables. Only one channel is programmed
currently. I am looking for the software and programming info on
this range of radios. I can see that it is a synthesised radio and
really need to know how and where I can get the software connection
detail.

Many thanks in advance for any information/help you can give me.

Best regards Steve

If the radio was working or you just can't tune the VCO so it locks up,
a very common problem with the XTR is the electrolytic cap in the
VCO section leaks and needs to be replaced.. Also you must clean
the board completely.. I try to clean it with just Alcohol and it wasn't
good enough, has to use flux remover as well..

You can obviously use the same RIB box, but the cable I believe is
different. Correct me if I'm wrong (someone will) but there are cables that
will work, they have a switch on them.

What is it you are trying to accomplish?
DTMF access to repeaters?????
"Control operations" is way too generic.

And you might ask on the Kenwood lists.

Here's the info you seek:

H25RDH9DP5 HT1250LS+ 403-470 MHz 16 conv channels limited keypad
LTR/Passport
H25RDH9DU5 HT1250LS 403-470 MHz 16 conv channels limited keypad LTR only
H25RDH9AA6 HT1250 403-470 MHz 128 conv channels full keypad (no
trunking)
H25RDF9AA5 HT1250 403-470 MHz 128 conv channels limited keypad (no
trunking)
H25SDH9DP5 HT1250LS+ 450-512 MHz 16 conv channels limited keypad
LTR/Passport

If you want to have LTR trunking, you must decide whether you want 16 or
32 conventional channels. Since you want QCII encode and decode, you
MUST get the 32 channel model. There is no 36 channel model.

There are two models which meet all of your requirements:

Range 1 UHF (403-470 MHz) HT1250LS+ model AAH25RDH9DP9
Range 2 UHF (450-512 MHz) HT1250LS+ model AAH25SDH9DP9

Both of the above two radios have full keypads and will operate on LTR
or Passport trunking systems AND up to 32 conventional channels.

Hi Stan:
The E3 error is a VCO unlock code. The VCO voltage is not in the
correct range. If you program it out of range you could get this code
and would to readjust the VCO. If the radio has been working fine and
suddenly came up with this code it is likely a component failure in
the VCO. If you check the VCO voltage it should be 1.5 volts, if it
is off a little it can be reset, if it is 6 volts or so it is a
component failure.
   GL Terry

- H25RDH9DP5
- H25RDH9DU5
- H25RDH9AA6
- H25RDF9AA5

Also does anyone know which radio MODEL NUMBER in the HT1250 Series
has the following all built into ONE portable...
- LTR Trunking
- 36 (Not 16) Conventional Channels
- MDC1200 Encode/Decode on CONVENTIONAL CHANNELS
- Quik Call II Encode/Decode on CONVENTIONAL CHANNELS
- 12.5/25 kHz Switchable Channel Spacing
- LED Digital Alarm Clock

(I know some models of the LS series don't have the features above.
I'm wondering which model numbers do I need to look for to get ALL
the features listed above on a portable radio.)

Please advise, thank you very much for your time.

The following are from the troubleshooting page of my
XTR manual.

E1 MPU ROM/RAM error
E2 No model/no channel data programmed
E3 Synthesiser (VCO) out of lock
E4 (check)sum error of channel data
E5
E6
E7 backup power down
E8 Programmer I/F error
E9 Clone I/F error

E5 and E6 don't get a mention.

Hope this helps.

Hi all, I have a question!

What is this 70-1340 telling me when it comes up with an "E3" in the channel

Is this a corrupted "codeplug" problem?

(I know, I know... it's not a codeplug, but that term seems to be... well,
almost generic... like "Kleenex", here in The States.)

if you try and sell this, i believe you will be in breech of motorola's
contract, i think just having it you may be. i would not advertise it any
more if i were you, as for one, i will have to make all your posts moderated
as what you are offering in against guidelines, and once we can let slip,

These particular units were from BC Dept. of Highways (using ~151
MHz).

Yes, QCII is the abbreviation for "Quik-Call II" signaling based on the
two tone sequential format.

To add QCII to an HT1250 radio, first click on "Signaling" in the tree
view, then click on "Quik-Call II System." Double-click on "Quik-Call
II System - 1 and follow the prompts to set up the tones and format.

For each personality that you want to respond to these paging tones,
click on the "Signaling" tab and enable QCII for receive. You can have
more than one QCII system in a radio, but each personality can respond
to only one QCII system. There is a helpful tutorial on the CPS program
CD, in case the help files are lacking.

It has to be the G series radio, 370gk alreadly is 128 channels, but
in the case of the 372g which is 32 channel uhf, can be programmed
to be a 370k within the rss, just open kpg56d v3 or v4 , goto radio
type, portable, then 370k. And you have to start from scratch with
entering the freqs. then just write it to the radio.

The Customer Programming Software for the HT1250 and other Professional
series radios is available only in Windows-compatible format. There is
no DOS version.

I can't help you with the codeplug, but I can answer the question about
the model numbers:

HT1250 128 conventional channels, Low Band, VHF, and UHF models.
HT1250LS LTR Trunking plus 16 or 32 conventional channels on VHF only
HT1250LS+ LTR Trunking plus 16 or 32 conventional channels, on 220, UHF,
and 700 only

The 16 channel LS or LS+ radios have less memory and fewer features than
the 32 channel models. For example, QCII coding is available only on 32
channel models.

Beware of "HT1250" radios that are being offered for sale at a very low
price. Some of these radios are actually LS or LS+ models that have had
the front label changed. The unwary buyers thought they had a great
deal until they tried to program them, and discovered that the radios
would only hold 16 channels! Caveat Emptor...
