This news group was created on 11th August 1999 out of frustration with the then Melbourne (Australia) queer press, namely Melbourne Star Observer and Brother Sister, to report queer news.

To be accepted news items must have a Queer focus and be relevent to Melbourne's community. General news stories and discussion should be posted elsewhere.

You, the members of this group, are writing (and for some of you, making) the news. Keep it interesting, relevant and don't forget fun! Members should note that qmelb is a public e-mail group. There is nothing to prevent members from forwarding on postings. Libellous or defamatory messages will be deleted.

Promotions for commercial activities (eg nightclubs) will not be accepted.

Members are encouraged to post items of news and to invite their friends to join. Anyone can read messages but you need to join to post messages.

With some exceptions for known community members, all messages are moderated which means that their may be a time delay between you posting the message and it being approved by a moderator.
