   Hi Avis

I can almost certainly assure you that none of your family or any other
Germans for that matter are left in the Allenstein area. After WW2 the
allies ethnically cleansed the East of Germans -expelling some 14
million and killing approximately 3 million in the expulsion process.

You can read about it here:

http://many-roads.com/key-topics/vertriebenen/<http://many-roads.com/key-topics/\
vertriebenen/>
   A photo gallery is here:
http://many-roads.com/photo-galleries/flucht/<http://many-roads.com/photo-galler\
ies/flucht/>

My mother's family 'expulsion' story along with the stories of numerous
others are on my website (http://many-roads.com<http://many-roads.com/>). The
German post-WW2
Expulsion is a part of history that we only very rarely teach or
   discuss.

As for source historical and genealogical materials, you might find
   these useful:

   Have a wonderful holiday.

   Thank you for your reply.
It has taken me at least 10 years to get this far. With little to no
   information.
I was pretty sure Rudolf was the correct spelling, but have seen it
   spelt 3 different ways now.
Amelia I have spelt at least 2 ways. Have them entering the US in 1883
and then again in 1900 PA.
I'm still grasping at straws as to where they came from and what family
   was left in Prussia.

   Have a safe 4th.

   Hi Avis

Loetzen seems to have been a town near the former Allenstein in East
Prussia (Allenstein, Ostpreussen)-- now in Poland. see:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreis_Allenstein<http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/L\
andkreis_Allenstein><http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreis_Allenstein<http://de\
.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreis_Allenstein>>

Of the names you have Rudolf is the correct traditional German
spelling... Amelia/Emelia is not a very common German female name-
perhaps she Americanized it? I'd use LDS Church records to see if you
can find the Loetzen Church (probably Catholic is the best place to
   start).

   Good luck!

Hello- I am searching for information on my great grandfather Frederich Wilhelm
Sanewski who I believe came from the area around Marienwerder (Kwydzin, Poland)
based on LDS baptismal files and Ancestry.com records for other Sanewskis. The
earliest information I have is that he left Bremen in 1887 on ship for USA. Any
suggestions as to other resources to use in my search?
Thanks

Hallo alle - Hello all!

(Leider nur auf Englisch)

A Heimatsortskartei was set up in post WW2 Germany for the purpose of
identifying and locating people in the catastrophic aftermath and destruction of
WW2. Finding loved ones and discovering their fate was essential. The
Heimatortskartei provided hope and was the resource. Although these files may
not be readily accessible in Germany because of the infamous Datenschutz -data
protection laws; they are available through the LDS Church Archives. I have
posted more about the use of the Heimatsortkartei and related sites at:

[...] And I took you by the hand

     What we lived for.

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears. [...]

Hi,

I've just started to really work on my German ancestry, and I wonder if anyone
can give me a clue about how to locate a birth certificate for my grandfather's
brother, John Kilguss.

Here is a link to his passport (only the right side page is his). Would you
guess the town he was born in? We have puzzled over the handwriting and come up
with several candidates.

I know he was born in March 26, 1872, but think he may have been adopted by my
great grandparents, so I am not sure what parents' names would show on his birth
certificate.

Once I know the town name, is there some place a list of addresses for towns to
write to for birth records?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Karen

My guess:
http://www.maplandia.com/germany/niedersachsen/hannover/holzminden/muhlenberg/

If you like the guess go to familysearch.org and order the LDS texts for
the church of your choice.
