I am looking for anyone who has any information on the name Ducholke
or Ducholk. This was my grandfather's sir name. He was born in the
1800's but wasn't sure if it was Prussa or Russia.

I am at the brick wall with this name:GOHLIKE. My great grandfather was
August Gohlike. I know at some point the name was spelled GOHLKE. When
and why it changed...I don't know. August came to the USA from Prusssia
in the late 1860's. First, he lived in Chicago area. He worked until he
had enough money to bring his brother, Julius, and his mother over.
Eventually, he ended up in the Faribault, Minnesota area. Married
Christine Misgen. I know most of the story from there. Any help with
the Prussian part of this story would help...i.e.who his parents were,
where exactly he came from, etc.

I have found some possible ancestors, etc who were born/baptised in
Jerusalem, Berlin Stadt, Brandenburg, Preussen. I have been trying to
locate this place on maps, but alas, to no avail. I would appreciate
any and all help in locating the place.

I am still seeking connections in Brandenburg. The surnames are
Düsterbeck, Grassnickel and Schellpfeffer.

Prussia is currently Poland and Lithuania not Russia.

My ggg grandmother was Catharina Finckler Misgen, born abt. 1796. Note
the spelling of her maiden name. I have found the Finckler name spelled
both ways for the same person. Catharina's parents were Mathias
Finckler and Anna Maria Becker. This was Mathias second marriage. His
first marriage to Anna Klein produces 7 children, one by the name of
Johann born abt. 1779. I do have more information. If the info I have
provided so far has been of any help and you would like more...just ask.

Does anyone know how I may research for this man's ancestry.....?

I am the descendant of this man who supposedly came over from Prussia
in ca. 1844. He married to Augustine Koehler on August 25, 1848 in
Dodge County, WI by Squire Botter. According to the Pension Record
for William Buckholz he married in Austesfort (sp?) there in
Wisconsin. Then by 1850 he was in Greenville, Outagamie or Brown
County, WI along with his father-in-law Ferdinand Koehler Keller
Kailer who came over from Zehden, Koeingsburg, Prussia in 1846 via
Brandenburg Ship List Records via Ancestry.com.....

I suspect William Henry (Wilhelm Heinrich) Buchholz may have erred on
his birthdate and he may have been the son of Johann Heinrich
Buchholz and Elizabeth Becker of Sophien, Berlin Stadt, Germany who
was born in the early summer of 1826 per the LDS website
familysearch.com (org?) but I am not sure.

I would be delighted to share my genealogical information with
anyone. I am desperately trying to find my Wilhelm Heinrich
Buchholz's ancestors in Prussia Pruben Germany but have had
absolutely no luck at all with this lineage. If someone could please
help me I would be emmensely appreciative.

ancestry.com? They have a new "German Section" were you may look. If
you do not, let me know and I will look while I still have mine (I may
cancel it next month just because I seem to have gotten all I'm going
to get from it).
From what I understand, a lot of records that we would just love to get
hold of went poof in WWII. Don't people realize we are going to need
those things?! For example, my sis-in-law is a wills and trust lawyer
and had to go to Germany over a contested will. She went to a lot of
government and various other resources but could find no information on
that part of the family because all had been destroyed. I know that I
am getting pretty frustrated at times. I know that is not much use but
there you have it. Maybe doing a google search for something
like "German genealogical resources".
I know that PA is known for its large German influx, but I know from
looking for my own family records that the midwest really had its
share. My maternal grandfather was Raymond (W?) Landgraf (lived in
Chicago) and his parents were from Prussia. I have had no luck getting
beyond finding my grandfather's parents on the census. It's the same
deal with my paternal grandmother (also lived in Chicago) who was first
generation American with Prussian parents. She was Bertha Johanna Hoch.
Then my mother's aunt married Herman Ludwig, also first generation in
Chicago. I know much more about that family's death (husband, wife, two
daughters) because they all perished in the Iroquois Theatre Fire of
December 1903 in Chicago.
BTW, I had family in Outagamie County, WI also (not German). They lived
in Appleton. I wonder if they ever met...

Danke. I do have ancestry.com subscription but it is somewhat
limited. I did find William Buccholz on it marrying to Augustine
Koehler in supposedly August 25, 1845 in Dodge County, Wisconsin.
This is very likely a transcription error as she, her father, and
sisters did not arrive in Amerika unti 1846 from Zehden,
Prussen/Germany. But I did find that her father Ferdinand Koehler was
a Shoemaker, and that he did have land in Dodge County, Wisconsin
very likely right next to Wilhelm Buchholz. Subsequently, he met
Augustine and married her in August 1848 (this date according to his
own handwriting in a German English writing per his Civil War pension
Record materials).

I honestly don't know when he came across from
Prussia/Prussen/Germany but according to the 1900 Census he was
living with his daughter Henrietta who married to Carl Kressler up in
Lolo, Shoshone Co, Idaho....on this census page it indicates that he
immigrated in 1844. I tend to wonder about this year of immigration.
He supposedly was born 19 Januar 1826. But I have no idea if this is
correct or not. He said it in his Pension Papers. (If only my Great
Grandma Buchholz would have passed down to me the genealogy and
photographs that she had...her sister threw it all in the garbage!)
BUT thankfully I have managed to obtain duplicates of her husband
Lloyd Buchholz father William F. Buchholz, son of Wilhelm Buchholz
and Augustine Koehler).

I am wondering if these other Buchholz folks that immigrated to
Wisconsin may be related but the descendants just don't know it.
There are so many questions and not enough answers about this
Buchholz family. I am thankful for what I do have though very much
so. I would like to find other descendants of the siblings of William
Frederich Buchholz, such as Henriette, Sophie, etc etc. Surely they
must exist.

According to his son John Henry Buchholz of April 19, 1930 of Lake City
Precinct, King County, Washington State states that both his parents
William Henry Buchholz and Augustine/Augusta/Auguste
Koehler/Keller/Kailer/Kohler were from Germany Rhineland.

Then there is the other Census for John Henry Buchholz brother William
Frederich/Francis Buchholz in the 1920 Census for Cambridge, Washington
County, Idaho states that both his parents Wilhelm Buchholz and wife
Augusta were born in Berlin, Germany but "Berlin" is both crossed out.

If anyone can help me lock in on Koehler or Buchholz over there in
Gemany I would emmensely appreiate it.

"Austesford" according to William Henry Buckholz's Pension record
photo-copies is actually "Hustisford" there in Dodge County,
Wisconsin. He married to Augustine/Augusta/ Henriette Marie Koehler
on August 25, 1848 according to his own written statements.

For the life of me, as I don't speak but very little German nowadays
and have lost it over the many years, couldn't figure out what
geographical location Austesford would be within Dodge County,
Wisconsin.

Looking into Section 1, of T10 N, 16E 80 Acres that Ferdinand Koehler
bought in February 10, 1848 I finally found a Platt Map of the county
which would pretty much tell me a few answers. I cross referenced it
with some other maps and ran across a map of the smaller townships
within Dodge County and noticed next to Herman and Hubbard Twp's that
there is this Hustisford. Boy, you all oughtta seen the look come
across my face at 3 a.m. when I added it all up in my mind !!!

So, now the question is whether or not there is anything in the land
records that would clue me on where Buchholz was living, where he
bought the land, when he sold the land, and the like. Cause in 1850
and 1855 he was in Greenville, Brown/Outagamie County, Wisconsin with
Ferdinand Kailer, Koehler his father in law.......

Anyway, I hope that other folks on this message board are having some
tidbits of new enlightening info come to them as well.

2.  Is this the correct spelling of the name?  That ...witz looks more
Polish than Prussian to me.
3.  Is this the Polish spelling and if so, what was the Prussian name.

My grandfather Friedrich Grönning is from this place and I am trying to
find out where I should look to find records about his family back in
Prussia.

Census you can get from the LDS.  Is there a similiar Census for the

I am really confussed and need some help please! My G-Grandfather was
born in Seehausen, Prussia Sept.21,1839 , his name Louis Siegler. I
understand there are currently 8 Seehausens, But can anyone tell me
how many there were in 1839>?I think it was close to Brandenburg. I
sure would be grateful for any help I might be given.He came to U.S.
in 1864.I am trying to find out if he had sibblings and the name of

A grand father,
   Hermann Platzke, Born 14 Aug 1880, Danzig, Prussia has no record of parents or
any family in the area that we can locate. There is a story that he was given as
a baby to an aunt by the name of Platzke to save his life. It is believed his
parents were jewish, and possibly had the name of Von Hohenfels.

   Any suggestions on where to start?

Did the Platzkes or Von Hohenfels come to the US?  If they did census
records would be great.  Go to a local Family History Center (altho
connected to the Mormon Church they are helpful to everyone) they
have records from all over the world.

What about religious records?  If they were Jewish there is a great
Jewish website.  I will have to look it up and get back to you.

My own g-grandparents were Theodore and Anna (Briese) Scholz from
Breslau, Silesia, Prussia now Wroclaw, Poland and I have lots of
questions too.

   Only the one Hermann Platzke came to the US. We have as much as we can locate
on his arrival in the State of Georgia about 1902 as well as here in Maryland.
Prior to that no information. The word of mouth story is he left the Platzkes in
Poland and went to sea, jumped ship in Florida and made his way to Darien,
Georgia, where he obtained citizenship and then married our grandmother.

   We have checked the family history center, and found no useful information
yet. I would greatly appreciate the Jewish information website.

   Like you, we have lots of questions, especially when word of mouth stories
paint an interesting history.

there in the area- but how to go after what else could be

it is a foreign genealogy website somewhat like ancestry.com. You can
join at a basic level without cost. There are other websites you will
learn about and see at geneanet. You will need Google translate found
at the Goodle website.

I am trying to find a family members parents in Poland/Prussia by the
name of Platzke, but no luck yet - I just keep trying and hope
something turns up.

I have recently found out what Church my 3rd great grand father
belonged to, but have run into a snag in which I won't be able to get
around until I figure out where he's from.
The Evangelical Church in Berlin does not do name searches, one has
to know the name, place and year of the person they are looking for.
I know the year and name, but not the place.
But at least I know what denomination to look under here in the US,
if I can find any that still exist in the counties that I have my
great grand parents living in.
I have heard of one great grand father going to the Baptist Church,
but he never became a memeber, so if I find out there weren't any
Evangelical Churches in the ares that I'm looking at, that could be
the next best thing right?
Hopefully my search became a little easier after this, since church
rosters will have things written down on each family that is part of
the congregation. Or they should have such things.

I'll see from the numbers that I have if I can find a Church
congregation in the Kane County area in which John and his wife Mary
were members of if it still exists, some churches have the habit of
falling apart and making new ones from the ashes, so this should be
fun.

We are trying to locate the parents of Hermann Platzke, born 1880 in
Prussia. He married a Mary Esther Wallace in Georgia, about 1902. He
died in 1967 in Maryland. Our records have located a Prussian or
Polish/German spelling of Platzke as Plotzkeu. This Platzke family may
have connections to the Von Hohenfels family of Poland.

Lutzke, b. 1826 in Preuben(Prussia) and d. before 1900. He married Wilhelmina
Karoline Blank(Blanke) b. 24 Jan 1836 in Prussia and was christened on 31 Jan
1836 in Brandenburg Stadt, Brandenburg, Prussia.  Her father was Johann Andreas
Blank(Blanke) and her mother was Anne Dorothea Saul (no dates for these.)  (2)
Ernest Frederic Herman Blank(Blanke) b. 3 Feb 1841 Prussia and d. 6 May 1901 in
Des Moines, Iowa, USA.  (3) Peter Zeug (Zeng, Zeig or Zieg) b. abt 1805 in
Prussia and d. aft 1903 in USA.    Other names I have are Petrus Josephus
Schiffman b. 7 Aug 181 in Rheinprovinz, Prussia and christened  9 Aug 1818 in
Katholisch-Mutscheid, Rheinprovinz, Prussia, son of Francisci Antonii Schiffman.
I have several names and don't know where to turn to for help.  Any direction

I now have additional information about the persons in the subject.
Jürgen Friedrich Schley was born in 1710, in ?, died 18 October 1772 in
Pieverstorf near Ankershagen.
He was married to Hedwig Christine Schock, born 1698, in ?, died 1 June
1772 in Pieverstorf near Ankershagen.
They had no children.
In 1763 Jürgen Friedrich was the owner of Schloss Pieverstorf and he
and the maid Marie Dewitz, got a son Johann Friedrich who was born 29
May 1763 in Pieverstorf.
I'm looking for more information about Jürgen Friedrich Schley, Hedwig
Christine Schock and Marie Dewitz.
