While you would think that it would result in reduced performance, until it
is in the hands of testers there is no need to guess.

Visited Radio Shack's web site. I asked in an E-mail when the Pro92 is going
to be available. They replied back mid - November. I guess we still got a
while to wait ahead of us.
I note that the new 2000 Canadian Radio Shack
catalogue does NOT LIST either the Pro 92 or the Pro
94 - don't know if they will be adding these products
later when they are available in the USA.

LTR was developed by EF Johnson (now Transcrypt International) and now
several companies are producing LTR equipment under license, including
Uniden, Standard, and Kenwood. The PRO-92 will track all of these LTR
systems. The only LTR that the PRO-92 will not track is EF
Johnson/Transcrypt international's Multi-Net 2 LTR.

Moderator - I believe what you are describing is the same thing. The catalog
description of the Pro-92 claims that it can follow LTR trunked radio systems.

I checked with RS Unlimited today and "no stock" was the usual reply. I also
checked at the local shack to find the usual "not listed" in the computer.
Neither of them having a release date.

Anyone give any thought as to how type one talkgroups will be handled in the
PRO-92 firmware?
I could see using Motorola sizecodes to get talkgroups like 001-A or
something to that effect. The Optotrakker only displays hex or Uniden
decimal and no Uniden type one talkgroup. Using the TrakkStar software you
can display Uniden decimal and Uniden type one talkgroups just as the
current Uniden Trunktrackers do. I was hoping it wouldn't become the
standard.
Another interesting note would be how the status bit will be used. If
Motorola hex is displayed this could also be displayed as the end digit, but
if Uniden decimal is used then the status bit can display a different
talkgroup. The 245 now has the ability to switch between status bit mode.
Hopefully the telephone calls and interconnects will be displayed and
decoded too, as the TrakkStar software does, and be able to be locked out or
skipped if they are hindrance to scanning.

Hi, I went to Radio Shack this evening to inquire as to the availability and
was told "they were not sure" but they agreed that it would be toward the end
of the month before the 2 new scanners would be in stock. Hope this helps.
Waiting is the most difficult thing to do.

I tried calling RadioShack 1-800-THE-SHACK number today. They told me all
three of the Multi-Trunking scanners were showing "out of stock" in the
computer by catalog number.
This evening I attempted to order the PRO-94 online as well. I got all the
way to the confirmation of order page before I also received an error
message.
Let's see what email I get from them tomorrow. I also sent a seperate
message to check the availability of the PRO-92.
Dave K9DV
RadioShack.com has its new preview eCommerce website up at
http://preview.radioshack.com/ . You are supposed to be able to order
products online from RadioShack.com. I attempted to order a Pro-94 radio
scanner. The online form kept coming back with a message that I had
selected an invalid shipping method. I called the RadioShack.com customer
service and was told that the item wasn't available. When pressed they said
that they should have stock available on September 15th.
The RadioShack.com website will be taking over the ordering for TechAmerica
as well. My RadioShack.com/Tech America flyer arrived in todays mail. In
fact it explains that all the TechAmerica stores have been renamed
RadioShack.com stores with three locations in Denver, Phoenix and Atlanta.
Perhaps someone from one of those cities could look to see if their signs
have changed.

Dave,
I have aPro-60, as well as 2 Pro-2045's. I was just looking at the
possibility of needing trunking capabilities in the future. If I have to
buy a trunking scanner I will, I just thought it would be nice to get one
that covers everything I listen too. Hopefully there will be one before
I really need it.

Not to me, I want to try the GRE method of TrunkScanning. I think the PRO-92
is a test model to see if it works in the field. If the results turn out
good the surely more improved and feature packed versions will come out in
handheld and base form. I look forward to a PRO-2042 or Optocom like
featured base version with all the bells and whistles I can stand.
> Looks like I will have to be patient and wait for the Pro-94.
If you want military air band I would look at a conventional scanner with
that feature. A good one was the PRO-60. I should of held on to that one
too, but I decided to trade it in for the PRO-64 because I didn't have much
mil activity nearby.
I got a RadioShack flyer in the mail today. It has the PRO-91 and PRO-2050
on sale through 9/2/99.
The calm before the Multi-Trunking storm I guess.
Dave K9DV
That is fine, but the Pro-94 only covers from 216-225 MHz which is an amateur
radio band. 225-400 MHz is not covered by the Pro-94. The Pro-92 coverage
starts at 308 MHz but I am unsure as to the mode in that band.
From: kg5un@...
No not at all. But I am an avid military aircraft monitor and that
requires 225-400 mhz AM
coverage. I dont buy scanners that dont cover that range unless they are
very cheap.
No Idea when we will go trunked, if ever here so the only time I could
use the trunking features would be if I traveled so I may as well get one
with the features I can use now.

Average coverage: 29-54, 108-174, 308-512, 806-960
This is the first GRE Trunking scanner, so I would say that it is a test
program. If it works out, I'll bet you will see more models in base and
handheld.
The PRO-94 and PRO-2052 will have extended coverage:
PRO-94 Coverage: 29-54, 108-174, 216-225, 406-512, 806-960 and 1240-1300
MHZ.
PRO-2052 Coverage:29-54, 108-174, 216-225, 406-512, 806-960 and 1240-1300
MHZ.

Based on past performance of GRE radios, I would say that the audio output
should be loud and clear.
Dave K9DV
What is the frequncy coverage of the Pro-92? Does it cover 225-400 mhz
AM ? We are not trunked here yet but probably will be soon, so I will
probably look at getting one if it covers mil-air.

Ed, the frequency range is as follows:
Pro-92 will cover 29-54, 108-174, 380-512, and 806-960 MHz (excluding cellular).
The Pro-94 will have additional coverage from 216-225 MHz
> Guess we will just have to wait and see unless someone can tell us more of
> the facts. Looks like we wont know until it hits the store.
We certainly have more questions than answers at the moment... Here are a
few of the questions and comments that I have:
** How many talkgroups can be programmed in vs. the 10 banks of 10 on the
BC245?
** Will the CTCSS capability search for the correct tone as the BC895 does,
or is it "trail and error" of entering in different tones?
** Will the external speaker audio level be any better than the BC245 or
will we need to mod it, too!
** I am VERY pleased to see that the alpha capabilities appear to accept
both the system and/or agency, as well as individual talkgroup description.
A big plus in my opinion!
> One person asked about the "lightning bolt" seen in the display of the
Pro-92. Evidently the OptoTrakker has a similar icon. Does anyone know
what the significance of the lightning bolt icon might be?
On the Optotrakker it tells when a talkgroup is active in LTR or Motorola
decode.
The Uniden decimal or Hex can be displayed on the Optotrakker for Motorola
talkgroups. I would say that the Uniden decimal will not be displayed on the
PRO-92 so that would leave Hex or Motorola decimal 6. EDACS Talkgoups will
be interesting. Will AFS be available or decimal only or both. I am hoping
for the same display that Etrunk.exe and E-Trax have. LTR talkgroups should
be the same as the Optotrakker and Optocom display with an added "lightning
bolt" to show an active talkgroup?
Also I am guessing, but the "-MO" displayed in the catalog picture would
most likely be Motorola system type Trunked bank and not mobile or
monitoring.
Guess we will just have to wait and see unless someone can tell us more of
the facts. Looks like we wont know until it hits the store.
Dave K9DV
Am interested in any information regarding the SAME capability of this
scanner. Does anyone know whether it will have similar capabilities to
RS's SAME WX radio? Will I be able to enter multiple FIPS codes for
counties, etc. and have it monitor them in the "background"? Will the
SAME "text" be displayed on the 4-line display?

The 23-288 Nickel-Cadmium rechargable battery pack can
be used on the PRO-43 as listed on the box in front of me.
"Works with these selected Radio Shack scanners:"
PRO-30 thru 34, 36, 37, 39, 42, 43, 44, 50, 60, 62.
I am using it in my 64 at the moment. So I bet it will work in the 92 then.
Great!
Dave K9DV
I am very pleased to see that the Pro-92 will include alpha capabilities.
With the growing number of LARGE trunked systems, I believe that such
capabilities are a must.
Has anyone heard if alpha characters can be programmed in for conventional
frequencies/channels as well?
Ed Walsh
Minnesota Radio Monitoring Page
http://www.scanfan.com
It appears that the case will be the same as some of the other
RadioShack/GRE radio scanners. On page 95 of the catalog there is a
"Rechargeable Battery Shell" that is available by RSU. This is what the
description reads:
New: Rechargeable battery shell. Lets you recharge your Ni-Cds inside your
scanner. For RadioShack #20-310 (Pro-70), 20-312 (Pro-75), 20-522 (Pro-92),
20-564 (Pro-64). RSU 12100442....6.99.
Since it can work in the Pro-64 and the new Pro-92 the assumption is that it
is the same. I will let you know that the rechargeable battery case in the
Pro-43 would be different than the Pro-64 or the Pro-92. The Pro-43 has two
jacks on the side. One for power and another for charging. The Pro-64 and
the Pro-92 have only one power/charging jack and have different contact
points for the standard battery pack and rechargeable battery pack.

There has been more subscribers to this list than I had expected to see. This
shows me that there is a lot of interest in the anticipated release of the new
Pro-92 radio scanner.
There have been comparisons between this radio scanner and the Uniden Bearcat
BC245XLT and with the Optoelectronics Optocom. The greatest concern seems to be
the method that the Pro-92 uses to follow Motorola trunked radio systems. Since
the Optocom is made by GRE like the Pro-92 it is assumed that it will use a low
speed handshake method as opposed to reading the control channel. This has led
to several people being very critical of this radio and dismissing the radio as
being "too slow" to follow trunked radio systems well. Of course some of these
people have a bias against anything made by RadioShack or they have a financial
interest in seeing the Uniden sell better than the RadioShack counterparts. It
has been brought to my attention that the reason the Optocom tracks Motorola
systems poorly is because of the weak link between the radio and the computer,
the serial connection and the fact that PC software processes data much slower
than a dedicated processor in the radio would. I would suggest that everyone
hold off on making statements about the performance of the radio until it has
been released and we have a chance to evaluate it first hand.
One person asked about the "lightning bolt" seen in the display of the Pro-92.
Evidently the OptoTrakker has a similar icon. Does anyone know what the
significance of the lightning bolt icon might be?

Hello All,
Looking forward to picking one up soon. I understand a memo went out to the
RadioShack managers that the PRO-92 will be available in Sept. The PRO-94
shortly after that and just as the catalog says the PRO-2052 after Nov.
14th.
I sent an email to RadioShack warning them of the 5 second delay during
multi-tracking on the Uniden models. I did not get a reply direct, but I did
get a 10% discount coupon, so I guess that was my answer.
I plan to use the coupon to purchase a PRO-92.
Anyone see the lightning bolt display similarities between the Optotrakker
and the PRO-92 catalog picture?
