Thank you for your prayers! I had a good trip down to L'Aquila and trust
that my time there will prove to have been profitable. Despite some
problems with train connections on the trip down, I arrived in L'Aquila
Saturday evening and spent a week living in a tent just outside one of the
many tent cities that have sprung up in and around the city.
I spent much of my time there helping to deliver washing machines (which
were donated by the Brethren church) to camps which either had no washing
machines, or an insufficient number of machines for the number of people
living in the camp. The Italian brother (Corrado) whom I worked with will
be seeking to deepen the relationships that have formed through these acts
of service in the coming weeks and months. I also spent time helping in the
kitchen and in other various ways. During my time there I was able to have
quite a few good conversations about why we were helping and what we
believed, and trust that I was able to reflect the love of Christ to those I
came in contact with.
Thank you especially for your prayers about my headaches - I had but one
(very brief) headache during my time there.
Please continue to pray for the folks down there. Many who have homes that
were not seriously damaged in the quake have still not returned home out of
fear. In fact, a couple days after I returned to Domodossola (Monday
night), there was a strong aftershock. That evening several people in the
camp where I stayed would not even go back into their tents for fear. Much
remains to be done before the cold of winter arrives. Pray also for my
friend Corrado who will continue serving there. There is a great openness
to the Gospel, and also strong opposition to evangelicals having any hand in
the relief effort.
I'll try to get some pictures and more details up on our website in the
coming days (once I catch up with everything else).
Please continue to be in prayer for the children's clubs we will be having
in the park in the coming weeks. We hope to have one club a week (on
Thursday - weather permitting) from now until mid-July. We also hope to do
some open air evangelism during this time. On July 4, Lord willing, we will
also have a sports day outreach and picnic with the youth group.
Thank so much for your prayers.

Scott & Sharon MacLean
