Welcome to the internet discussion group about my N scale model railroad: The Prairie State Railroad Company. The PSRC is a non-union railroad basically contained within the confines of the State of Illinois and will be almost completely steam powered. The layout will depict the Fall and Winter of 1954 and will model the Egyptian Subdivision of the Southern Division, which is far Southern Illinois from Mount Vernon south to Cairo (about 100 miles).

Power for the PSRC will be steam power: homebuilt 2-6-2s and 4-6-4s and commerical built 2-6-0s, 4-4-0s, 4-6-2s, 2-8-0s, 2-8-2s, 4-8-2s

This groups main focus is on my model railroad, but I have also opened the forum up to postings about how and why I do some things a lot differently than most other modelers. I am not a typical modeler as I modify EVERYTHING I use on the layout. Collectable equipment is something you will not see on this model railroad. This layout is operations based, so if it doesn't get used, it serves no purpose whatsoever on the roster.

There is so much that CAN be DONE in N scale, if you just give it a little thought and get up out of the armchair and sit in front of the workbench. I finally got out the armchair and now I have all sorts of projects in process.
