hi there,

I have a bit unusuall request here. (some goodies should come a bit later). Is
there anyone who would like to be a friend of my husband? He is british and
lives with me and the family in the Czech republic for a year now about 50km
away from Prague. He feels isolated without anyone to talk to as he barely
speaks czech. Does anyone know about a meeting place for expats?

  Many thanks

I've begun to get ready for a small move by getting rid of everything I've collected over the past year (which is not very much I'm relieved to say).

These need a good home:
(book) - 1945-1968
(old photos) - Žižkov and area carte de visits

If you can pick these either of these up and give them a good home their yours :) Just send me a note back here on freecycle.

(I'm in Prague 3)

Cheers!!

Over the last year I've seen all of these beside dumpsters. Now that I'm moving
into an unfurnished flat I wish I'd "saved" them so to speak :)

I'm looking for any of the following:

This is NOT FINAL yet, but I won't know until tomorrow morning, so figured I could warn people it might be coming up.

I have a train ticket from Prague to Cracow (Krakov, Kraków) and back, including reservations (místenky). The dates on the reservations are 26th June night train (yes, Thursday, 48 hours from now) getting there on Friday morning, and coming back Monday 30th June (arriving at Prague early morning Tuesday 1st July). Unfortunately, it seems I won't be able to use or amend them. The ticket itself is valid for a month, I think, so can be used separately (reservations are rather cheap, 80-something CZK, and much cheaper than the ticket itself). It might also be possible to use the hostel reservation I made, but you have to pay the hostel for it (though it's on the cheap end). I only paid the reservation fees.

If there's a spontaneous soul out there interested, please write back and I'll update tomorrow if it's actually available...

2. A fleece scarf, with a colourful frog pattern (quite horrid, but very warm)
3. Two pairs of combats, quite big (size 44 or 46), one (the more presentable) is brown, the other is a khaki-brown camo pattern.

Ezra and list (so there are people here after all),

The rule-bit was copied and pasted from a list of Freecycle rules (possibly the UK one, though I believe it applies everywhere), and "our" came with it, the Freecycle concept is definitely not "mine", and as far as I'm concerned, the person who has been trying (or succeeded?) to patent it is an idiot for doing so. The concept of sharing cannot, and shouldn't, be patented. The capitals came with it, too, so the "bitch" might be the person who typed the rules. Thus far regarding my bitchy attitude, and as for my feminist reservations about "bitch" and "bitchy", well.. maybe another time.
I won't suggest moderating the group myself since I'm leaving Prague in a couple of weeks (and hoping to get rid of my 5 items of "property" here...) and besides, I'm not very fond of batons. I do understand that moderating e-groups can be an ungrateful task, but it still requires the moderator to agree to the main ideas of the group, as well as making sure others are aware of them. I didn't even know you were the moderator, and frankly, it makes the whole situation a tad, well, funny. There's quite a way to go between selling, or swapping (which is slightly better, as it leaves the money out), and sending things to landfill. And would you really chuck things to landfill only because you couldn't sell or swap them?

Over the past eight months, I've given away the contents of an entire flat, accumulated over a period of five years, in one country. I've also managed to furnish an entire squat in another, thanks to Freecycle, and to people who left their old, unused furniture outside and were happy when we knocked on their doors and asked if we could take it away. When I got rid of my stuff, I didn't know about Freecycle, and I'm not sure there was a group where I lived at the time, and it took me months to find good homes to the stuff. In a sense, I swapped things - giving away in one country, receiving in another - but neither giving nor receiving was conditioned on getting anything "back", except for, maybe, a few points to my karma. This is the main thing that seperates Freecycle from free ads websites, I guess. I'd also like to think it can work, even in Prague. I'm sorry you don't feel the same.

Yael,

You are utterly correct.  I had not read through the rules carefully so I wasn't aware of the no swapping rule.  You are also correct that I posted to the list because I wanted to see activity other than auto-sent txt.

What I don't understand is your bitchy attitude.

As the moderator of this branch of Freecycle, now that I know of the no-swap rule I can make an informed decision that the no swap rule is nesmyl and I encourage any and all to ignore it.  Swapping means that two items that would be junked get new homes other than the landfill.

When you say "our main rule", do you mean that the Freecycle (TM) concept is yours?  If so, and I'm on your turf, I'll simply delete the group and walk away.  Someone who can manage to not be utterly out of line can pick up the (used) baton.

With Sincerity,

Ezra

In the "Spirit of Freecycle", you are utterly out of line - I would like to refer you to the first rule in the list, namely
1) KEEP IT FREE, LEGAL & APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES. This is our main rule, and means, for example, no alcohol, tobacco, weapons or drugs, (legal or otherwise). Freecycle posts should never involve payment of any kind, including swaps.

Swaps, for that matter, is the "barter for it rather than buy". I'm aware that the Freecycle Prague group is somewhat quiet, that is, inactive (this is the first post in three months which is not about Freecycle rules), but this should only leave you more time to make yourself acquainted with the rules which are quite simple.

Kind regards

someone wants cactuses or suculents? friend of mine has been collecting them for

and many kinds, but too much for our garden:) locality: uvaly near prague.

hi all

i am not a moderator here, neither was i with my group in toulouse. but i do know that freecycle is not only a czech thing, and that there are common rules (that people agree on when they join the groups), and that the idea of freecycling is to give away unused (or no more useful) things. give them away, not swap them.
i do understand that swapping is a great thing, but i guess we should find other places to do that, and maybe include, in the information here, links to such websites, but keep the idea of "giving away for nothing in return" here. it is, to me, a very different idea.

as for the personal things here, i don t really see the answer as bitchy, although maybe, the capital letters can be interpreted as anger or something. so if i may give some advise here, please, people, calm down, we might be only 3 or 4 active persons here, let s not make it die ... !

and, ezra, why not simply giving the bed support ? and posting another ad if you need something specific ?  a friend of mine might be interested by the bed. i ll tell her to join the group !

i wish you all (...4 of u, ahem) a very nice day, and i wish the group to grow friendly !

Hi all, I´m a new member, excited to join; freecycle is fun. Is this an active sharing group?  I hope so.
I had to part with my last deck because we just weren´t well matched.  Does anyone have one to offer? I´m a relative beginner, but I would greatly appreciate it.  I need some guidance these days. Or, does anyone know of a good shop where I could maybe buy one in the city?
Thanks and cheers,
Elizabeth
