Hello all,
I am new to SDR and new to this group. I am about to start assembly of the
SoftRock Ensemble II RX as my first SDR project and I will be running this into
a Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card in a Windows 2000 OS, to implement a
general-coverage LF-HF receiver.

I want to run PowerSDR on the PC (at least initially). Can someone point me to
a list of the minimally-required software (besides the sound card driver - I
already have that from Creative's site) that I'll need to download and install
on the PC to get the Ensemble RX board up and running?

Thanks,
Steve

Follow <http://www.wb5rvz.com/sdr/> You will see Rocky is recommended as a
starter, much easier to get going.
It will run on W2000 if it is on a fast enough computer. PSDR also.

I think you are trying to link to the skins but that version is not intended
for W2000. It is a temporary preview intended to suit Vista/W7.
I think the version 1.12.20 at
<http://code.google.com/p/powersdr-iq/downloads/list> is better for W2000.
It needs no skins.

Hi all,

PSDR v1.19.3.15 will not run under Win2000, as it requires Microsoft's NET3.5
framework, which requires a minimum of XP.

Although the demo version is listed for use with Vista and Windows 7, it is
equally happy running under XP.

PSDR-IQ v1.12.20 runs fine under Win2000 and would be the obvious choice, use
that here on my original SDR PC, still going strong.

Thanks Bob,
Upon the advice of several folks, I will start out with Rocky with my Ensemble RX and see what all I can do with that software under Win2000, before trying PSDR.

Good day

Anyone know if the ASUS laptops have stereo mic input. I know the
ASUS Eee netbook has stereo-in, because I use one for SDR. Now looking
at a "work computer" replacement, which of course should be capable
of running a SD radio.

I was looking at this model. Asus K52F-A1 w/ Core i3-350M, 4GB,
320GB, DVD+/-RW, 15.6in LED HD, Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Any driver issues with Win 7 ?

thanks,

Hello the group,

I've been using Power SDR 1.19 with the RX Ensemble, and it seemed to be working
well.

Now, I'm at the stage in the RXTX Ensemble build where you test the PTT and
switching, at the end of the I/O and Switching section.

At first, I got 0V on the PTT line, at test point A, and then I went into CFSGR
and unchecked the automatic bandpass filter function, saved that and tried
again.

Now when I bring Power SDR up, it is stuck in MOX, meaning the mox button won't
deactivate. The RXTX Ensemble does not have its PTT line activated, in
otherwords I measure 10.2 volts on Test Point A. But there is a constant audio
sidetone from the Power SDR program and the Mox button stays lit no matter what.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Thank you,

Wayne NB6M

Hi Wayne,

Check the guide
-> http://www.wb5rvz.com/sdr/ensemble/psdriq.htm
it could be the LPT port setup.

Thank you, Christos,

That was it. I remembered reading something about a cause for constant TX but I
was too tired last night to recall where.

I must have changed that setting while switching things from the RX Ensemble to
RXTX Ensemble.

Another issue I am having, while using the RX Ensemble, is that every few
seconds the audio drops out, I hear a click, and it comes back. I don't have
the RXTX Ensemble far enough along at this point to see if this happens with it
as well.

I have tried adjusting the buffer, and it seems like the smaller the buffer the
more often this happens, so I leave it on 2048.

I am using a RigExpert Standard USB soundcard, and have also tried adjusting the
RX Audio levels with its front panel controls.

This does not happen when I use WinradHD with the RX Ensemble.

Thank you,

Using the RX Ensemble, and the Audio drops out every few seconds. I hear a
click, and see a large, wide spike on the panadapter at the left edge of the
sampled area, and the audio stops for a moment and then comes back.

Tried adjusting the buffers, but seems like the smaller the buffer size, the
more often this happens. So I've left it at 2048. Also tried adjusting the RX
audio levels with the front panel controls on the USB soundard.

The USB soundcard is a RigExpert Standard, OS Vista 64 bit.

Anyone else had this happen?

Hi Wayne,

Have a look also at the links section
-> http://groups.yahoo.com/group/powersdr-iq/links
see the "PowerSDR Buffers and Sample Rate Relationship"

As a general rule, all the other sdr applications that do not give the buffer
control to the user, usually they put there a very large number thus they
introduce large latency in order to avoid audio dropouts (x-runs).

Hi friends,

Hello to everybody.... I 'am using PowerSDR 1.19.3.15 and Delta 44
with my Lima-SDR. The problem is: i could run the rx-image calibration
routine and it works well, but after switching to another band and
coming back to the previous one, the cal data is lost....also after
switching to transmit and back to receive the calibration does not
work....This did not happen using the older version (PowerSDR-IQ
1.12.20) Any idea ???

Hi Christos -

The software you mention does not sound the same as Cypress USB uStudio. Is it
an updated version? Downloading it requires me to register with Cypress and to
give them a bunch of information including company name, title, etc.

Hi Rod,

It requires the usual registration process as everybody out there, I registered
myself some time in the past but there is nothing else to that.

This is the new version, it contains all the tools to program and exercise the
FX2LP chip, it gives an application console for this. It also has quite a few
examples of programming and of course the new USB device drivers for the chip.

Hi Hermann,

The automatic image rejection in 1.19 is different from the 1.12.
And has been said many times, and also mentioned in the downloads where you got
it that the 1.19.x is a preview only so it does not have yet what 1.12.x has.

I am running Vista. The issue that I have with 1.19 is that when you try to transmit, your voice comes out of the speakers with a delay and there doesn't seem to be any way of stopping it, per a previous forum post. It is a big enough problem that it is difficult to operate with it.

Hi,

Same experience here as well.... (PowerSDR V1.19.3.15 SV1EIA) on Windows XP...

Two main observations:
1. Transmit Audio not muted towards speaker/ Headphone on SSB TX....
2. On pressing the "Tune" button, there is no Power output (as the tone is not being generated....)

Barring the above the software is good... It will be great if these two issues could be fixed...........

Hi Joseph and Ravi,

As said, 1.19.x is preview.

Either way though, I guess you have enabled VAC and got two 'Unsupported' sound
cards in your audio setup.
Even with 1.19.x, the issues that you mention do not exist if you use M-Audio
D44 of Roland FA-66, the supported cards.

In 1.12.x the specific echo issue was addressed with a modification that is not
yet in 1.19.x since as said 1.19.x is a preview.

Hello the group,

I'm using Power SDR 1.19.35 in Windows Vista (64 bit), and have it configured to
"run as administrator" and "run in compatibility for XP", and now have the
program controlling an RXTX Ensemble.

I am at the final stage of testing the transmitter output, and see that it seems
to transmit SSB OK, but when I try to key the TX in CW, with the paddles plugged
in to the RXTX Ensemble, the unit does not key properly, and using the paddle
results in nothing that resembles CW.

I looked at all the options available for setting up the keyer and CW mode, and
can't see what might be causing this.

Also I notice that the TX power output in CW mode is considerably lower than SSB
mode.

Any thoughts are very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Wayne

Hi there,
i´ve heard that í can modify the FT 450 and can control via Power SDR.
What is in this direction already done?
can i get some informations about that ?

Hi

I would like to use the I2C control implemented in the firmware for PowerSDR-IQ
in the HSUSB interface to send some data to my homebrew
hardware.I think of writing some small additional software in Delphi.
What protocol shall be used ?
Your reaction will be appriciated.

Google "FT 450 and can control via Power SDR" then you will find something..
It has been done.

Hi fellows!

I've been trying to find some info about the performance of Atom N330
based motherboards for SDR use. I found many using them, but not much of
comments about how they performed with different bandwidths and what kind of
software they have run on the background (VAC, digital modes etc).

Any of you guys running Atom N330? It looks really interesting and if some will
confirm it will run on 96-kHz, I will definitely get one!

I have been using it with Windows XP and it seems to run well at 96 KHz, although there are other limitations.  For example, selecting ANF and one of the noise filters causes it to "stutter."  I also had to play with the buffer sizes to get satisfactory results.
