Photo: P.E. O'Hair and Company, Oakland Branch, 1960. The Oakland office of P.E. O'Hair Company was opened in 1909 as Oakland Plumbing Supply. The Oakland branch was the company's first expansion outside San Francisco. The office at 309 Fourth Street, built for the company in the 1929, was located just two blocks from where P.E. O'Hair had operated a hardware store in 1895. This branch remained open until the early 1990's, when Westburne sold the property. This building, and the adjacent building at 311 Fourth St., was redeveloped into the Portico Lofts residential and commercial loft units in 1998.
