Re: [poormanscbradio] Ground

I think I meantioned this before...but just in case I didn't.

If your really worried about lightning....make your self up a lightning dissapator.
Nowadays, on all the big commercial towers and even amatuer towers, its pretty much standard to have lightning dissipators on them.
Before lightning strikes a tower ( or whatever) a static charge builds up...when this charge builds up to a certain point...lightning will hit the tower.

What companies do now to try and avoid the strike in the first place is to dissipate the static charge so it never builds up. You see these things on all commercial towers now.
I put a couple of pictures of lightning  (static dissipators ) in the file section.....one picture is a home made dissipator......the other is a static dissiaptor cable.
It should give you an idea of what you need to make yourself one........wire brushes and wire wheels with the strands spread out work great for small structures.
Look up some pictures as to what they look like ....and make yourself something.

If you have good grounding. and a decent lightning procector.....the only thing you need ( if your really worried) is a lightning ( static) disipator.

take care

Lot of people are telling me that lightning hits the antenna it may take out my electrical outlets in my house. Only thing i want to do is to make sure my house is safe from a fire if it got hit. I really didn't think about unplugging my items in my house. I just thought that all i would have to do is unplug my coax from the radio. I will from now on will unplug the radio as well. I have had a CB ever sense i was 10 years old. I never did have any of my antennas grounded in the past. But i am older now with a lot more stuff i had way back when. I can not replace my stuff if it got destroyed. I rent this house and i just want to make sure nothing happens to the house. So i would like to thank everyone who has helped me out.

20 gauge is too small. I would run 8 or 10. I got some stuff like this and rolled it flat works great.

I am sorry to email again. But i was wondering if this would be better than copper wire for a ground wire.
20 gauge galvanized steel wire
