Czesc, Gizella,
W slowniku Karlowicza/Krynskiego/Niedzwiedzkiego z poczatku XX wieku
znalazlam tylko lzy Najswietszej Marii Panny - roslina nazywa sie drgawiec,
ale niestety nie podaja nazwy lacinskiej.
Ziela sw. Antoniego nie ma (jest "za to" ziele sw. Barbary i sw. Jana)
Lysiny sw. Piotra tez nie ma, jest ziele sw. Piotra, inaczej Piotruziele,
driakiew podgryziona - Scabiosa succisa

Wiesz, zainteresowala mnie ta chrzescijanska botanika. Jak masz jeszcze
jakies rosliny, to dawaj, bedziemy szukac. W jakim kontekscie one wystepuja?

Pozdrawiam

the example header of a letter containing polish characters:

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=ISO-8859-2
Content-Transfer-Encoding: QUOTED-PRINTABLE

here is a fragment of your header:

Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Content-Type: text/plain

with the lack of charset there is no way to guess what are the encoded
characters, a mail browser only know the code, say E1, but not the
charset! so it chooses to present encoded charaters. Why your mailer
ceased to attach this vital information to your letter is to be found by
you. Just for test, I enclose a few Polish characters ,,żółw means
turtle'' and you should receive my letter with the header similar to the
former -- without this test charset would be set to US-ASCII, some mailer
improperly set default to ISO-8859-1.

Jeszcze raz.
Mówiąc o chłopcach i dziewczynkach równocześnie należy powiedzieć

- Przedszkolaki bawiły się pod opieką przedszkolanki.

Wyraz ten odnosi sie zarówno do dziewczynek jak i chłopców.

Jednak ładniej by brzmiało - moja córka chodzi do przedszkola. Tak

Hejsan!
Nie wiem nic o liście internetowej, ale będąc tłumaczącą kobietą mogę pewnie
pomóc:

> 1. Jak tłumaczyć ang. 'volume' w odniesieniu do włosów?
jeśli to ma w czymś pomóc, to zwiększa "puszystość" włosów.

> 2. Czy 'mousse' ma swój polski odpowiednik?
Pianka. Jeśli jest miejsce, to można napisać: pianka do układania włosów.

> 3. 'conditioning agents' to środki regenerujące włosy, czy też je
> odświeżające (!)?
Odżywka. Ale jeśli środki - to chyba rzeczywiście regenerujące.

Witaj na 'naszej' liscie, Janos!

You've sent two messages and in one of them the characters look OK, while
in the other one they don't, so it seems you have found the answer to your
question, n'est-ce pas? I am not that much of an expert on Internet nodes
nor on coding standards used there, but it looks that your emailer has the
function 'Code as quoted printable' switched off: this function codes the
non-ASCII characters as '=' + hex code, and the receiving mailer should
decode them back automatically... the Internet handles only 7 bits, that is
why we have to resort to such tricks. In my Eudora I can switch this
function on and off with a 'QP' button, you would have to check Help for
your mailer to discover how to do it with your software.

Feel free to ask for more advice on this subject.

Kind regards from

Ryszard

Dear colleagues,

Just like you, we, Hungarian translators also have our own Translators For=
um
on Internet, called mfefo@egroups.com. Until October 5th, 1998 we did not =
have
any problems with the Hungarian characters

=E1 =C1 =E9 =C9 =ED =CD =F3 =D3, =F6 =D6 =F5 =D5 =FA =DA =FC =DC =FB =DB

appearing properly in the text of the messages. Suddenly after October 5, =
1998
we got strange codes instead of the special Hungarian characters in the te=
xt
of the messages appearing on our forum messages. We tried to send the mess=
ages
from various computers and through various internet connection providers, =
but
the problem persists. The egroups technical help is either too busy or the=
y
are unable to solve the mistery, so we had to resort to omitting all of ou=
r
diacritical marks when sending messages to the mfefo address.

I would like to know if you can get all the special Polish and Hungarian
characters properly displayed on your monitor and reproduced in print as s=
hown
in the sample lines?

Also, have you ever had similar problems in the past?

Our moderator and another colleague have already prepared a macro to resol=
ve
the problems, but we would like to type in Hungarian and Polish into the
message areas directly.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Please feel free to respond in Polish.
