Season's Greetings to you all!

I've been very slow in getting this done, but the newly-rebuilt site
is up and running, though a few things need to be straightened out
yet (and will be finished tonight). Have a look at
http://polarphilately.com - you'll see a site that basically looks
familiar, but is updated.

The pages for Features and Ads will be blank until I hear from you.
New Web sites, and articles you'd like to post here, will be on
the "Articles and Special Features" page. Anything related to polar
philately that you would like to sell or trade will be posted on
the "Classified Ads" page or the "Polar Cover Services" page.

Your comments and suggestions are always welcome - this is your Web
site, and I hope that it remains a useful part of your collecting
world.

Cathy and I wish you all a peaceful Christmas whereever you are, and
a happy and prosperous 2005.

Hello Everyone

I come into this site every so often and wanted to let everyone know
that things are still looking great in this site. A great job well
done on it.

I was wondering if there are any particulat chat times? I would like
to meet people in this group. I have only been collecting Polar mail
for the past 2 years now and only know a little about it.

My interested lie in both Polar regions but only in the postal
history aspect of it for the moment. I have examples in my
collection from both regions but mostly from Antarctica. Right at
this time, I am not into stamps from these regions or topicals from
them but just interested in the covers. In time, who knows, I may
start the stamp end of it too but that will be sometime in the
future.

I would also like to take this time to wish everyone a Merry
Christmas and a very happy New Year. May 2005 see everyone and this
group grow and prosper.

Happy collecting

Murray/Billy-Ace,
The bane of every web site developer including me...bad links! I just noticed
that too.

The pages are available from the home page--they have .html file extensions.
Some of
the other pages refer to .htm file extensions which of course cannot be found...

Perhaps it would be useful to show links to the various Scandinavian
philatelic sales organizations. I don't know how to contact the
moderator and/or webmaster directly, so here's my suggestion:

On Toke Norby's website (from Denmark), http://www.norbyhus.dk/ his
links include all the Scandinavian postal services as well as links
to other philatelic organizations interested in Scandinavian
philately.

For example, the Scandinavian Collectors Club in the USA is
www.scc-online.org and there are good links from there, including a
library list.

Hi, Group.

I've just seen this group for the first time, having just seen the
new Polar Philately website.

I'm a specialist collector of Scandinavian revenue stamps, and as
such I'd like to hear from others. I have done some publishing of
information on the subject, and have participated in some other
publications. I'd be glad to send info about which publications now
exist on each of the Scandinavian countries' revenues to anyone who
would like to have that emailed.

Further, I have a printer's overrun of my catalog of Danish revenues,
which was done some years ago. It's essentially applicable now, and
I'd like to provide it to US addresses for $3.85, the cost of a
priority mailing. Foreign addresses: let's talk...all I want is to
cover postage and envelope costs.

Happy holidays!

One other thing (which relates more to Yahoo)...the tagline for text emails
includes:

Visit the Polar Philately Mailing List website at http://join.at/polarphilately.
To
post to the list send your e-mail to polarphilately@yahoogroups.com

...the old join.at link is no longer valid.

One member has a problem with the Web site, and I'd like to know how
many others are having it as well. He is unable to see any of the
links titled "Classified Ads" - you should see one in the middle of
the navigation text just below the title header, and another on the
Home Page in the paragraph:

"Free Classified Ads are available for any polar philatelic material
that you would like to sell, trade or buy. Information about related
issues (such as new books, Web sites and dealers) can also be
posted, as well as requests for information."

All I can come up with is that his ISP has some sort of strong ad-
blocker that wipes them out (though he can see the Google Ads).

Anybody else having this problem??

There is a bit of disruption going on with the site while I move it
to it's own domain rather than just as a redirect to
http://www.explorenorth.com/polarphilately/

It will be operational at http://polarphilately.com/ within the next
12 hours or so (it lives there now, but it takes a while for the
international Web ID system to recognize the change).

Sorry for the inconvenience - I should have done this to start with.

A brief article at CBC News this morning caught my interest:
http://north.cbc.ca/regionalnews/caches/dec24pole12242004.html
The family name, Landry, run a bell so I Googled them and found a much
bigger story for those with polar interests. To record all of the Landry
family's polar accomplishments would take a large book, but their Web site
at http://www.northwinds-arctic.com/ gives a brief summary. Whenever I'm
tempted to say that people today are such wimps compared to the polar
explorers of history, I'll remember this family and say nothing.

Too bad they didn't carry any covers! : )
