I believe it's held annually in Atlanta.  I've always wanted to experience it just once, but finances have never allowed for it yet.

You correct.  It is always held in Atlanta.  This will be year 26 of the con.   If you are planning on goin this year, you will have a hard time finding a hotel room.  The 5 host hotels along with the overflows have been booked for months.  We made our reservations for this year the day after we got back last year.

I just saw on the Pittsburgh Comicon Facebook page that the dates have been set
for the 2013.

Reserve September 27, 28, 29, 2013.

The change in the time may allow for some folks that usually are unable to
attend during the usual April dates a chance to show up late in the summer.

Hey Guys. There is a show put on here in Altoona, PA each year called Illuxcon.
In their own words, "IlluXCon... Art Illustrated. The first and only show
dedicated entirely to the art of the fantastic (imaginative realism)." They are
currently running an auction on eBay to benefit their scholarship program. They
have some great folks that have donated, including our old friend Ed Beard Jr.
and the Brothers Hildebrandt. Jeannie and Patrick Wilshire put on a great show
each year and really help the cause of art. Please take a look and see if there
is anything that catches your fancy, http://www.ebay.com/sch/tsrart/m.html
Also, check out their show this year, tickets go fast. http://www.illuxcon.com/
Heck, while you're at it, head up to Allentown, PA and the Allentown Art Museum
and see the Fantasy and SciFi art exhibit they are curating until September. I
now return you to regularly scheduled programming.

There are good and bad things about the con being moved to Sept.
Good thing is not same month as Boston.
Bad thing is people have gotten their income tax refunds in the 1st quarter of
the year,by April the majority have.So it is easier to have the "extra" cash to
be able to attend and spend.I work at H&R Block. Most people cant save that money
for that long and may originally intend to attend but...
Also this is back to school time and having worked retail I know unless you are
selling clothes or school supplies, business drops way off as people are
saving/spending on back to school.
Now unless you can get some really B I G name to come and lure people in I think
attendance is going to be harmed by it being in Sept.
I hope and pray I am wrong...but just my 2 cents worth.
Good or Bad is yet to be determined but I will support the best I am able.

i dont see the money thing as an issue if your a disciplined person with your cash. if a tax return is your "mad money", people often see this as free money and blow it anyway, save it. i dont see the problem with knowing hey i need money for the con so i should save some of this for then and set some/all aside. now you have from April to sept to set aside even MORE money!! take a few bucks out of your pocket. instead of buying mcdonalds that day you packed a lunch and take that 5 bux and put it in your con fund. you save just 5 bux a week for months and you will be surprised how much cash you have for the con, especially if you just put it aside and dont count it till then. if you count it along the way and realize how much you have you might get excited and want to spend some of it bc there may be a good chunk there depending on how much you set aside. doing something like this can help you from hey id really like to have that book/ sketch/ original art to hey look at what i just bought. money should never be an issue if you plan properly and budget...that goes with everything not just con's.

at least with the con being in the fall it will not be so freaking hot in that place for the cosplay people. there have been a few times in costume ive had to sit down and guzzle water or if its cool enough out doors go out there and cool down. in sept id think its alot more cool but who knows with my luck they will have the heater on in there.

the bad part of the con is they can be on the same weekend i have reserve duty, usually the first weekend of the month. i know this has screwed me before and alot of my military friends, which in turn is lost revenue for the con but hey i dont set the dates, but it is a bummer if im in town and cant get to go.

but i do agree if they have some good name people there as a draw it would help the shift in time frame to get more people in the door. i dont know how many times me and my friends will be like oh its the same old people every time or the vendors all have the same stuff. there needs to be something "special" or someone exciting there to be like ok i can see spending 20 bux to get in for that etc etc.  mostly i just go to hang out and chat with people and have people stop me to take pix of my costume  :o)

Hey Folks,
I'm not worried about September. We've done the September thing before when we
opened up the new venue. I know some of the dealers preferred it and it didn't
seem to effect attendance at all.

(I'm self employeed in my real life, so tax refunds are something I vaguely
remember from the days I used to get a pay check.)

As far as guests are concerned, I know some of the guests Renee has in mind and
I think people will be excited when we can start making announcements. We just
need to get some of the things confirmed first. I can say that Jim and Holly
will be back next year for their first back to back appearance at the show and
we are always thrilled to have Jim and Holly. I've said it publicly numerous
times, there just aren't any better convention guests than Jim Balent and Holly
G! They are so attentive and generous to their fans. I would build a show
around them every year if I could. I love them both!! But stay tuned. I
promise exciting news about Comicon 2013 with some guests that have never been
to Pittsburgh before and some that we haven't had for a very long time. ( I
wish I could spill the beans now, but the boss would kill me. )

Patrick

Oh I fully agree IF you are and or can be disciplined then you will still have the $$$ but come on lets face it most people are not that way. There are way too many things to do all summer long that will tempt them to spend the cash with the thought of "Oh I will replace this money with my next paycheck so I will still have it for the con."

but i do agree if they have some good name people there as a draw it would help the shift in time frame to get more people in the door. i dont know how many times me and my friends will be like oh its the same old people every time or the vendors all have the same stuff. there needs to be something "special" or someone exciting there to be like ok i can see spending 20 bux to get in for that etc etc.  mostly i just go to hang out and chat with people and have people stop me to take pix of my costume  :o)

My trouble is I live in the DC area now and have been going to Baltimore for the last couple years. Now they are within weeks of each other instead of weeks apart. So it looks like next year is one or the other.

Oh I fully agree IF you are and or can be disciplined then you will still have the $$$ but come on lets face it most people are not that way. There are way too many things to do all summer long that will tempt them to spend the cash with the thought of "Oh I will replace this money with my next paycheck so I will still have it for the con."

i dont see the money thing as an issue if your a disciplined person with your cash. if a tax return is your "mad money", people often see this as free money and blow it anyway, save it. i dont see the problem with knowing hey i need money for the con so i should save some of this for then and set some/all aside. now you have from April to sept to set aside even MORE money!! take a few bucks out of your pocket. instead of buying mcdonalds that day you packed a lunch and take that 5 bux and put it in your con fund. you save just 5 bux a week for months and you will be surprised how much cash you have for the con, especially if you just put it aside and dont count it till then. if you count it along the way and realize how much you have you might get excited and want to spend some of it bc there may be a good chunk there depending on how much you set aside. doing something like this can help you from hey id really like to have that book/ sketch/ original art to hey look at what i just bought. money should never be an issue if you plan properly and budget...that goes with everything not just con's.

now you have from April to sept to set aside even MORE money!! take a few bucks
out of your pocket. instead of buying mcdonalds that day you packed a lunch and
take that 5 bux and put it in your con fund. you save just 5 bux a week for

way and realize how much you have you might get excited and want to spend some

doing something like this can help you from hey id really like to have that

Yknow very seldomly do I join in on the back and forths here. I understand both reasons for the change (unyielding competition from another show and a personal event for R)
But ill be responding as an artist here...I think this change is about 50 50. I can relate to both for avid savings or avid fandom, for me the shift in show dates is much more difficult. As james stated people have just started semesters again so limited funds to enjoy yourself, and dragoncon is a last hurrah in that sense.
Not a super fan of the shift but I understand, but I can tell you that baltimore shifted their date almost permanently (that's the way it looks at least) and for the first time I don't think ill be in attendance. Who knows for pitt?

I don't see any problem with moving it. You can't really blame it on "other
shows" due to the fact that the Boston show last year was a week before the
Pittsburgh show which is probably one of the reasons we missed out on some
guests. But as for the money issue, it gives you an extra 4 months to save for
the show. No matter when the Pittsburgh show is scheduled people will have a
problem with it, whether it be the show to close to other shows attended, money,
and guests. You just have to choose which one you will enjoy most. If they
moved it to December, people will complain its too close to Xmas (or Chanukah),
move it to July it will be too hot, move it back to April and you have other
Cons at the same time or a week before/after that others attend. Pittsburgh
Comicon is doing the best they can with the time they have. Hell, they can
either have it in Sept. or just cancel it all-together and disappoint a lot of
people.

This is the only show I attend due to my job. I would love to attend NYCC or
SDCC or any of the super-large shows, but this is the one I have attended going
on 8 years now. I am kind of disappointed that I will miss a Steelers game that
Sunday (hopefully will be the bye week) but I also missed the Washington
Capitals Playoff games while the show was going on last year. But we all must
make sacrifices.

Jim and Holly G are back! OMG, Yeah!!!!

Those 2 year gaps have been killer, glad next year's show fits their schedule.
I certainly don't mind the scheduling change, now.

...Any chance Pittsburgh could get ALAN DAVIS in 2013?? He seems like a great
con guest. And doesn't do many U.S. shows.

I think having 3 weeks between Baltimore (9/7 & 9/8 2013) and Pitt should be
fine.

And (Wizard World) Mid-Ohio (Sept 20-22, 2013) is more focused on entertainment
guests, and less comic books.
