Hello folks, you received an email from me earlier in the week concerning our
Make-A-Wish $10,000 challenge. (or you saw it here on our Message Boards.) Well,
turns out by sending this email I broke an important Make-A-Wish rule. We
cannot solicit donations for Make-A-Wish from states other than Pennsylvania,
because our email list includes people out of state, I have to rescind my
previous plea for donations. The official statement concerning my mistake can
be found below, but I just wanted to say this was my fault and I'm sorry for any
inconvenience. If you are trying to get ahold of me you can find me out in the
woodshed. :( So, anyway here is the official statement on the matter,
Patrick.

Please disregard the email you received earlier in the week requesting
additional donations for the Pittsburgh Comicon to benefit the Make-A-Wish
Foundation. Unfortunately it was sent outside of the Greater Pennsylvania area
and we are not permitted to accept donations outside of this region. If you
made a donation and live outside of Greater PA your donation will be returned to
you. We will continue to raise funds to make wishes come true through the
Pittsburgh Comicon auction. Thank you and we apologize for this inconvenience.

I might also suggest characters from well known fantasy or sci-fi franchises.  Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter.  It depends on what you are familiar with and what your work lends itself to.

Of course your donation would be accepted and appreciated. You never know what someone might be interested in at an auction, and custom figures are something you don't see everyday. As far as which characters??? The sky is the limit, but generally the more mainstream the characters (DC or Marvel, some of the better known indy characters) are what sell best, but you can use your own discression. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask me.

Thanks,

Patrick

> I also make custom figures in various styles and was wondering if they would be accepted if I donated a few. If they would, what would be a good format? Which characters would probably be most desirable? I know that original art and unusual pieces by well-known artists and writers seem to get the most bids, but I'd love to contribute too.

I wouldn't want Wizard to have a show in Pitt. I would like to see
representation by the larger companies at these shows. This is the only show
that i attend. I do like seeing the mid-size companies (Top Cow, Aspen,
Broadsword, etc.).

I agree completely.  Unfortunately Wizard has a gargantuan marketing budget compared to the Pittsburgh Comicon, as well a nifty little vehicle call Wizard Magazine to advertize the crap out of their shows, as well as advertize the crap out of companies like DC, Marvel, G4, etc. who attend their shows.  It's hard to compete with that.

It's pretty apparent to me based on what Wizard has pulled in the past five or so years that their goal is to become the only comic con out there.  First they tried to drive Heroes Con in NC out of business by scheduling a show in Atlanta the very same weekend.  When industry professionals were rightly outraged and threatened to boycott all of Wizard's Shows, Wizard backed off and cancelled "Wizard World Atlanta" altogether.

They were quiet for a while, but now they are up to their old tricks - staging comic cons in markets very close to where other shows already exist, most notably Toronto, New York City and once again, Atlanta, with the NYC show the same weekend as the NY Comicon.  Their website also indicates that they are planning to start a show in Cleveland in the near future.

I don't know how many folks from Cleveland drive down for the Pittsburgh Comicon, or go to the Mtor City Con in Detroit for that matter, but a WW show in Cleveland will impact attendence at both of those shows.  If the impact is great enough, it will no longer become economically viable for promoters like Renee to run a fun, fan friendly show like the Pittsburgh Comicon.

The WW Philly show is this weekend. I only live an hour and half from Philadelphia, and I would love a chance to meet Patrick Stewart, but I am so put off by Wizards policies, that I can no longer bring myself to go to one of their shows.

Huh. Wizard still puts out a magazine? Anyways I love that it is a "locally"
done show. Maybe someday I will go to one of the "big" shows.

Huh. Wizard still puts out a magazine? Anyways I love that it is a "locally" done show. Maybe someday I will go to one of the "big" shows.

Ladies...The Rage of the Stage Players, Pittsburgh's dark/alternative theatre
company is offering you the opportunity you've been waiting for! Despite pouring
through applicants, we still have yet to locate our ideal Wicked Queen for our
dark/mature/serious stage adaptation of Grimms' SNOW WHITE! This is no Disney
show! It is a moody, violent, sexually charged production told from the
villain's perspective, and requires the ideal actress, who is magnetic, has
tremendous presence, is in the right age range, and can truly stand as "fairest
in the land." Not only is this the show's nasty villainess, but one of the leads
to boot! Don't be modest. Don't lament the lack of good roles for women 30 to 40
when the opportunity to submit your headshot and resume for consideration to
play the Lady MacBeth of fairy tales is right in front of you. When it comes to
female roles, this is among the most memorable.

We are seeking to fill the role as soon as possible for this premiering stage
production. It will rehearse in the SOUTH HILLS area and perform at The Studio
Theatre in the basement of The Cathedral of Learning in AUGUST. If you are
interested, don't hesitate! MILF's and Cougars alike, rise-up and take what's
yours! Submit those headshots/recent photos, resumes, and any questions to
rageofthestage(at)yahoo(dot)com immediately! We will continue to sift through
the experience and physical stats of our applicants until we find the actress
who will best suit the role. Feel free to pass this information on to anyone who
might be interested. If you would like to become more familiar with us check us
out at www.facebook.com/rageofthestage.

**Please note that The Rage of the Stage Players are a completely voluntary arts
organization, and all roles are UNPAID. Applicants within Pittsburgh and its
surrounding areas only, please.

Yep.  Looks like the pittscomicon account may have gotten spoofed or something.

It was from someone that joined the group back on May 7th.  They've been removed from the group and the messages were deleted from the group page, but those folks that get individual messages emailed to them would have had then sent to them.
