Hi!
Very nice opening message Alexiel! I'm a newbie here, but not to the Pittsburgh Comicon. Over the years I've enjoyed guest status and have hosted a couple panel discussions there back in the  early 1999-2000 years. I had attended in one capacity or another since the very start only missing one year to illness. And in 2004, had a mild heart attack there. 'Course, I can laugh at it all now...but spending the weekend in my onsite hotel room feeling ill wasn't fun.  And did I catch hell from my family for not telling someone other than my 13yr old son and a friend. The three of us traveled there from upstate New York.

Well, the good news is that I plan to again be there this coming year. After skipping 2005, and having a bad business year since that year before ... I figured Pittsburgh  would be a great place to premiere my new publishing endeavor.  The guest list looks great, and seeing old friends that I only stay in touch via telephone and email will be nice. 'Course I missed donating anything to the charitable auction last year -- and Mike, Renee, and family with friend support work so hard to make the convention a yearly successs ... I'll have to make up for missing last year.

This egroup list was a nice idea! Thank you!

Regards,
~Rick

I would like to make the Comicon this year but it's not like it used to
be with Star Wars guest. How about the One Man Star Wars Trilogy? That
would be a GREAT addition. I would really like to see that show since I
was not able to make the show in Cleveland this summer.

Ditto that. The Pgh Comicon is getting old. They need to make the jump to a real Con like Wizard World or Comicon in Cali.

Okay, so which one of you guys is Chewbacca?

Heh, heh... :)

I disagree. I don't think the Pittsburgh Comicon is
getting old. I've attended all but two of them. Nearly
always staying the entire weekend. What it should
actually stay away from (imo) is thinking that it has
to compete, and avoid getting caught up in CHASING the
same old stuff and celeb's on the other con circuits
mentioned. That's a trap.

i agree with you, but my thoughts on the whole star wars, star trek etc is just blech! I think there are other celebrities they could get, and hell there is a PRO football team in pittsburgh why not try  getting a couple people from that organization to drop in.

The PRO football player idea is a good one! That would
boost sports memorabilia and add that number of
vendors and people to the mix.

Buying things is not really why I primarily go to a con. I go because of the things that there are to do at a Con. There are only so many times that I can walk by the same booth with the same bootlegs and the like, let alone staying all weekend. I just wish that there was more entertainment/event type stuff going on. I can buy something for my collection off eBay or a local shop pretty much anytime of the year.

Yeah, I hear yah Terry. I don't always drop big bucks
at Pittsburgh either, but I try to take in the panel
discussions and look for a couple harder to find
issues there. Each day is different. I normally make
the rounds and catch up with friends on Friday. I
scout purchases and take in panels on Saturday, making
Sunday the day I do my buying and then I get a sketch
or commission arranged here and there.

playin' videogames. I'm more a hangin' out in the bar
or having some friends hang out in my room kind of
guy. 8^)

Actaully this years Saturday evening is already
scheduled for Hooters!

But if you don't bring in, or "chase" other talent as you put it.
People won't keep coming back to see the same old people.
I was there on Saturday last year. Didn't look like too big of a
crowd, plus they weren't even using the one section that they did in
the past.
If they don't want the convention to die off, they NEED to compete.
Bring in someone from the Steelers, Pirates, or Penguins.
With the success of the new WWE Classic Superstars action figures,
bring in some wrestling legends for a signing.
Let the Playmates comes back.
Give the Chiller Theater expo some competition.

I agree! Bring back the 70 year old Playmates! Screw  the
Poke-moms and Yugi-parents!

Also, someone from this list mentioned Luki Ski earlier this year.
I love his stuff and his Thursday night internet radio show.
I would love o see Luke Ski come so I can buy some of his CDs.

Jinky "Banzai Girl" Coronado will be gracing the PCC again this year. Then Jim Balent and Holy G. are coming back, I'm really looking forward to 2006.

It is an interesting matter to ponder, Kerry. I always
thought they should bring as many golden and silver
age creators in to guest, but I'm clearly older and
would enjoy seeing (again) and meeting these many
folks. So many of them only seem to turn up at San
Diego yearly.

Jim Lee has never guested at Pittsburgh, has he?
Stan Lee?

I'm on a Lee roll here. Heh.

Yes, and more skin might be alright (as in models) as
long as the fans stand behind the choices. I know that
the hosts work hard each year to offer something
slightly hot or different.

Stan Lee was at the p-burgh once that i remember. I actually had the opportunity to talk with him. From what I understand Jae Lee wants so much coin to be there they would have to cut back on other guests.

Well, I KNOW what Stan's asking price is, as I
considered booking him for my yearly event. Jae Lee
can't be more than Stan's fee, but even if he's half
of it ... that's a lot of change. Jae's not that hot
anymore as an artist, is he?

LOL Dugger,
That's what I was going to post.
There should have been that 3rd option.

i dont know, my guess is he is a fairly hot artist. Some people think they are worth alot more than they really are, i am sure you know what i mean, they have to realize what they have today can be gone tomorrow especially in the comic world. I know Bendis wanted one hell of a lot the last couple years, i was surprised to see him listed for this year (ya think he will cancel? like waid does each year)
I do believe some old school wrestlers would be great, NOT JOHNNY V,  george steele was a big hit the year he was  there Foley was an enormous hit, i think Bruno Sammartino would go over huge and bring a whole other crowd to the con.
I say get Christy Hemme, she was a hot item in the WWE an then got the axe from Vinnie Mac.
Get some independent org's to do a show. a few matches shed some blood etc etc.

Bruno has been around to a few places this year, and not sure how
big of a draw he'd be, just for that fact. I'd like to see him
again, always a class act.

Yes Christy Hemme would be nice, or any of the other Divas other
than Lita, or Stacy, as the've been used too many times around here.
I think any of the guys in the classic superstars action figure line
would be a big draw, as that seems to be a new trend, trying to get
the figures signed. OR how about....... R V D! :)

Also, I think I posted before... I had emailed Norm Conners,
promoter for IWC, and he told me, that he had tried to show up and
put on a few matches, and maybe have some guys sign, but the
promoters of the Comicon, didn't want THAT sort of entertainment
there.
Also, it would be neat to get some of the TNA guys... AJ Styles,
Abyss, Samoa Joe, and I don't think it would be that hard, since
they have also worked for IWC.

Also, I was the one that mentioned... the Great Luke Ski.
Had also heard from him, and he said he wrote to the promoter, but
never heard anything.

Pittsburgh is a great area, but seems like we always get the shaft
on these sort of things. The toy show was great. Got Barry Williams.
Not sure if he made much money, but it was different, and cool.
I see in March they are having Chekov from Star Trek. I think that
will be a big draw.
At the Car show last year, John Schneider (Bo Duke, Smallville) drew
a GREAT crowd.
What's wrong with bringing some of those guys in?

I would just like it to be known for more than just the "home of the
Dawn of the Dead".

i agree. i think the "dead" actors are pretty much a waste of money and space there/ give them a couple years off. try to get a  couple steelers an pirates an penguins, i had lunch with i think mr george at last years con and i mentioned the wrestling to him an he said  he wasnt sure if that was the right crowd (something to that affect) i told him" what are you nuts?" then explained to him that damn near any guy that reads comics watches wrestling and  that i thought he was overlooking his target audience for the con, just look at what the wrestlers did that he had there in the past. when people are lined out of the building to see foley an steele, in my mind that speaks volumes. hell, id get a honkytonk mans autograph. they could probably get him for a cup of coffee and a meal....lol

I'll second the TNA wrestler vote. I've been trying to get into that every
Saturday
at 11:30 when I remember to tune in...

And whats the web site for the toy show? I've seen Walter Koneg a few times
before, but he has yet to die...

I'm sure the Raw Deal CCG player crowd would grow again if there were some
great wrestlers that had not been there before. Hell matches would be great!
But there is very little chance of a match or 2 happening. I'm sure there are little
things like insurance paperwork and junk that would just make that kind of stuff
difficult.

And I understand that someone else will be running a Raw Deal Tournament this year!
