I really wanted to get there this weekend to meet Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and Catherine Bach as well as see a few general artists to see what they had new, but finances and time didnt allow for it. :(

Sounds like you had a pretty decent time overall so that's at least good to hear. :)

i was there in costume. there was alot of people there but not alot of people buying stuff. i was there sat all day in costume, a new gi joe one i worked up. met alot of cool people and a ton of people asked me to take pix with them or their kids which is way cool. some even thought i worked there  lol oh and whoever was in the Baroness costume i have to give you much credit for that thing! it was really good, had alot of artists asking me either where you were or are we together  lol  guess its a gi joe thing

i have two friends who own comic shops and they had booths there. they both said Friday they did ok biznez but sat sucked and they didnt hold out hope for sunday. most of the people were there to see the wwf guy and that c3p0 dude. HUGE lines for them. i spoke with one person in line for c3pO and he said he waited in line almost 2 hours <he wasnt sure bc he forgot just how long he had waited bc he said it took forever>. tho from what i hear the guy was super cool. he got there on time and stayed till the last second signing stuff.
at one point someone came in a awesome c3pO costume and the guy came out from behind his table and posed for like 5 min with him while people snapped shots. was really neat bc they both were like the same height and everything. no one had anything bad to say about him so that kinda makes up for the long lines i guess. i for one wasn't in it, not a huge SW fan. i'm into gi joe mostly.

sad note was the lines totally covered all the other stars there and at some point the lines were up against the other peoples tables making it hard to even see anyone was back there, later the lines got pushed away, at that point i walked up to all the booths and spoke with them for awhile. super nice people, feel kinda bad no one was giving them any love. the females were all smoking hot and super friendly and nice to chat with. boomer was great to with his stories and such. if anyone missed the other stars they really missed out. they had the two big guests pretty much in the middle separated by 1 or 2 tables. i think they should have been on opposite ends or something to free up the other guests so they got some face time with the crowd also. was kinda hard to even see their banners and im 6'6".

i got more stories but thats the jist of it. all in all i had a good time talking with the guests and artists, all the picture taking and what not. even found the one thing i was looking for and alot less then i was expecting to pay. all in all a good time even if i had to cram on that school bus to get there from the other parking lot in the field. and i got there at 1030, they opened at 10. from what i hear their next one is in dec and will at the new expo mart.

i forgot my camera and didnt go today in my other costume bc its to hot and that place was boiling at one point yesterday and didnt get much better even after they turned a fan on so if anyone has a pic of me or of anyone else send me a copy so i can put it on my Pgh Comicon Myspace site.

thanks!

I got some info regarding the hotel situation for this year. It seems as though
Hilton Hotels have bought the Radisson. They say the the hotel will be open for
September, but it does not look like it will be. However, Renee and crew have
been talking to all the other hotels and it looks like there will be some deals
being struck with hotels like the Holiday Inn and Hampton. Also, she informed
me that the Convention Bureau will be running shuttles to and from the hotels on
a regular basis, including in the evening for events like the auction and such.
So, this year will be a bit of a pain, but the new place is sounding great!
Also, glad to hear the Steel Con had a decent weekend. It just goes to show
that the Burgh fans are a supportive bunch.

I got the 3 day pass. Friday Don Simpson wasn't there, which was never mentioned on their web site. I got there around 2 on sat and they told me he was there for less than 2hrs and would not be attending Sunday. I kind of feel ripped off. He was the one person I really wanted to meet.

Here are a few other hotels in the general area.  They may not have any deals or shuttles for the convention, but if the Radison wont be ready in time a person can't have too many options.  If anyone has information about any hotels that are offering any deals for the con please add them.  I'm just going off the top of my head as to what is the major hotels in the area there.

The Days Inn Monroeville

Hampton Inn Monroeville  (Has an Outback Steakhouse on site.)

Marriott Courtyard Monroeville

Comfort Suites Monroeville

Holiday Inn Monroeville

Marriott Springhill Suites Monroeville

The majority of these are all located within perhaps a mile of each other right off of the Turnpike exit there with many of them right around the Rt 22 & Rt 48 intersection.

I got some info regarding the hotel situation for this year. It seems as though Hilton Hotels have bought the Radisson. They say the hotel will be open for September, but it does not look like it will be. However, Renee and crew have been talking to all the other hotels and it looks like there will be some deals being struck with hotels like the Holiday Inn and Hampton. Also, she informed me that the Convention Bureau will be running shuttles to and from the hotels on a regular basis, including in the evening for events like the auction and such. So, this year will be a bit of a pain, but the new place is sounding great! Also, glad to hear the Steel Con had a decent weekend. It just goes to show that the Burgh fans are a supportive bunch.

Hey Folks,

I know you guys have been discussing the hotel stuff here for the last two weeks
or so but I just wanted to post this email that is going out to subscribers in
the next day or so. When the website is updated it will have the same list of
hotels from below with rate information.

Thanks and Talk to you soon,

P.A.T.

------------------------
Important Hotel Information for Pittsburgh Comicon 2009
--------------------------

The 2009 Comicon will be without our usual host hotel. The Radisson (soon to be
the Doubletree) which was to be completed September 1st is now not opening until
closer to December. Although inconvenient, we are forging ahead using other
local hotels. We will be booking the majority of our guests and staff in The
Hampton Inn and The Holiday Inn, but I have listed other hotels in the area
below. If you get on our website under Show Info,
http://www.pittsburghcomicon.com/showinfo.html the hotels are all listed with
their amenities and rate information. (please note the rate information is the
best we can currently provide but is subject to change).

All the hotels listed will be serviced by the Convention Bureau's Shuttle which
will be taking people back and forth from the Hotels to the Convention Center
all weekend long. We will also have transportation in place for our guests to
get them from the hotel to the Convention Center. We are sorry about the
inconvenience and we look forward to returning to the Doubletree (formerly the
Radisson) in 2010.

Here is the list of hotels for your convenience,

Between the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn - which hotel will be the one to
host casino night and after-con activities (aka Bar-con?)

Thanks!

I believe that will be taking place at the Holiday Inn this year. I think they
are looking at providing their entire restaurant to support the study of
post-con activities. :) The Hampton, while a great hotel, only has their
breakfast area and the Outback Steakhouse next door to provide for
entertainment. The Holiday Inn has some internal areas for meetings and such
that are ideal for this year's situation.

Do you mean to tell me there was an after-party for the comicon, with a beer and
booze? When the hell did this happen?! I NEVER KNEW!

Could someone tell me what it's like? Cause I expect to have many guests this
year attending the con with me and we need stuff to do. This would greatly help
us out.

Hey Guys and Gals,

Hope you all had a nice holiday weekend. I'll have big con news soon. I'm just
getting started on the newspaper mailer. I hope to be finished with it by the
end of June. I'm just trying to get used to the working conditions this time of
year. It's easy to put in 16 hour days when the snow is flying in February, but
it's much tougher to put in long hours when you look outside and see the sun
shining. Anyway, I'll definately have con news soon, but we wanted to announce
a couple cool upcoming events happening in and around the burgh to our Comicon
Faithful, One from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and One from our good
friends at New Dimension Comics. The following email will be sent out from our
webmaster soon, but as always you guys get all the news first, so here is the
info going out to our subscribers in the coming days.

I'll be in touch soon,

P.A.T.

Hello Comiconiacs,

We are deep into Comicon planning and we'll have some exciting announcements to
make in the coming days.

To tide yourself over until Pittsburgh Comicon 2009 (Sept. 11, 12 and 13), check
out Video Games Live TM , an awesome show the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is
doing Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12.

The show, put together by Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall, gives the music from
our favorite games (Guitar Hero, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Mario, Halo, Medal of
Honor, Advent Rising, Metroid plus tons of others) the grand symphonic treatment
with the PSO and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh along with video footage,
synchronized lighting, solo performers, electronic percussionists and live
action. Forget the synthesizers!

Plus, before the concert, there's a Guitar Hero competition, with the winners
performing onstage during the concert! There are great prizes up for grabs, too.
And, Tommy and Jack will be around before the show to meet everybody.

This show's been all over the place. Before it comes to Pittsburgh , it'll close
out E3 in LA, and after Pittsburgh , it'll be presented as part of the San Diego
Comic Con, so see it before they do!

Visit www.videogameslive.com for trailers, concert pics, and more. You can get

I have been going this comiccon for 5 years since I moved up here. I would buy
my tickets online like 1-2 months before the show started. When I got my
tickets at the door, after showing my receipt and ID, I was told to go to a
different line. This line, I'm guessing, was for all those who pre-purchased
their tickets and not for the ones who were walkins. This line was then allowed
to enter 5 minutes early into the show. But, last year, this did not happen. I
had to stand in line with everyone else.

So will there be any incentive for me to buy before the show? Yes you get the
mailer before the show, but these were also available at the time of the show.

I currently can't answer your question, I never handled the admission before.
I'm usually already in the hall doing this or that, but I'm talking to Renee
tomorrow and I'll see what I can find out.
