Ok...well I went to Steel City con's website and they have this
posted -NO MORE SHOWS OF ANY KIND AT THE MONROEVILLE EXPOMART!

Oxford Development, the company that owns the Monroeville Expomart
will be turning the building over to a third party in October of this
year. This third party is converting the Expomart to office space and
has no interest in having shows of any kind in the future. Thus, this
upcoming July Steel City Con will be our last show in the Monroeville
location.

Hello folks,

I recent days there are a couple of threads on the fansite that need
our attention.

First and Foremost, Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael Turner,
his family and friends. Michael was more than just a guest of the
Comicon, he was like one of the family. His anguish about not being
able to make it to recent Comicons due to his health was palitable.
He loved Pittsburgh, He loved the fans in Pittsburgh and we feel as if
we've lost a member of the family. He will be sorely missed but
always remembered fondly.

Secondly for those of you concerned about the venue for the Pittsburgh
Comicon in 2009, let your hearts not be troubled. We are aware of the
situation and are hard at work trying to come to a solution. We have
not given up on the Expomart, because although they are no longer
booking conventions past October, they have not ruled out the
possiblity that it will still be available come April. We are in
constant communications with the staff there and if we can stay, we
will. It has always suited our needs and been a good location for
fans, vendors and guests alike. We have, however, not been sitting on
our laurels and are in negotiations with other venues as possible
replacements for the Expomart if need be. All of which would be
suitable for a convention of our size. The Comicon will be held in
April and as soon as we can confirm the location, we will.

Talk to you all again soon,

Patrick Thomas

there are alot of strip malls around town with empty stores in them. i'm sure some leasing company would rent the place for the weekend. some money is better then no money for them i'd think. plus parking is still plentiful and free.
just a thought

My heart goes out to Michael's family. May he rest in peace.

As for Comicon, for the love of God, I can name three places I hope
you're not looking at. The Radisson in Greentree, the Marriott at the
Airport, and the Marriott Pittsburgh North. My reasoning, from my
past dealings with Kiddiecon, they couldn't hold that much smaller
convention, let alone a big one like ours. They just wouldn't suit
our needs by far.

Happy 4th everyone.

Ok I've been wondering Why Savini is such an asshole to his fans? I
mean I've met him quite a few times at cons and also on the street,
Ant to me it seems like he doesn't want to be bothered by the very
people that love the movies he has worked on. It just gets to me what
an asshole he is. has anyone else endured the savini asshole syndrome?

this is an email I received earlier this morning, If any of you are
familiar with the Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena Im asking, Is it easy
for a goof like me to find? LOL
Would the Comicon consider this place?
Let me know what you think folks, Im interested in knowing your
thoughts.

Hi Doug, good to hear from you. While we have not made an official
announcement yet we have secured a new home for the Steel City Con. All
possible venues in the Pittsburgh market were closely examined and we
decided on the Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena (PISA). This Sports arena
is only about 15 minutes from our original location in Monroeville and
YES, it's FREE PARKING. The Arena is almost 3 times the size we had at
the Expomart so it will allow us to actually expand the size of the
show to add new events and promotions that will move our convention
forward. I have always appreciated your support of our show and hope I
can continue to count on your support. Many, many, many more details
will follow in the weeks to come.

Thank you, Dominic

It looks like its up in Cheswick, Pa based on the website for the arena.  It appears to be very roomy, but I have no first hand experience of what the place is like.

well I know he was kind of rude to my godson. he has the Camp Crystal Lake book the limited edition one with the black cover and paid to have Tom sign it.  Tom pulled out a black marker and signed his name ON the black cover instead of the inside where you could actually see it ....

whether he was doing it for that or not my godson paid 100 bucks for that book and paid him 25 bucks to sign it ... he should have asked where to sign it and if he wanted it to be personalized.

I for one agree. That's a huge hunk of cash to invest- especially for a young person.

Id like to go on the record as saying Savini is without a doubt a huge snapperhead, next time the kid sees himhe should bust Savini right across the melon with the book.
But that  folks is just one mans opinion.

Make sure it's filmed, then Tommy can include it
in whatever movie he's doing at the time!

He's not a kid :)

He's kind of my "godson in law" he married my Goddaughter.  (I'm only 10 years older than them)

He's like 26 years old ... and a big HULKING man. You wouldn't think Tom would have just done that with this big guy staring him in the face.  And what could you do when, before you even have a chance to react, you hand him the money, he just pulls out a black marker,  and scribbles faster than the speed of light on the black cover?

I didn't learn about this until we were on the way home from the con.  I think he was afraid of the words I'd "have" for Tom.

Gee, as a writer, I'd be thrilled to have people ask me to sign my books for them. I guess that's what happens when one becomes famous and forgets about the regular people. If that's what fame and big money do to you, who needs it?
