Hi all, I made the show again this year, I think this was my 9th year
at this con. It was well worth the drive from Youngstown, Ohio (about
an hour and a half drive.) I found a lot of great deals (thanks New
Dimension,) some great $1.00 books, I also filled in some holes in my
back issue collection of silver-age and bronze-age Marvel and DC. I
loved seeing Holly and Jim at the Broadsword booth. I picked up lots of
back issues there (however, just try and find any of their early issues,
I only saw one dealer with #8 and/or under for sale. I found it also
impossible to locate any issues of New Frontier or 300 (by DC). I loved
seeing all the toys and dvd stuff. And as usual the artists and indie
tables were entertaining and interesting. I do agree that there seemed
to be fewer dealers at this show. I didn't go to any of the
panels...sorry, nothing seemed to interest me. So until next year,
this aging 50ish comic book fan says "Thanks Pittsburgh and ... Go
Browns."

Hi Chrystal!

I'm Brad, and I'm coordinating the Pittsburgh Ghostbusters groups. On
of our mini groups went to the con and participated in the costume
contest. Do you have any pics of them? I put his email on the cc, so
let him know if you have any of his group. I missed the con this year
(my wife and son were ill), but hope to be in gear for next year.
Thanks!

It was good talking with you before the costume contest. Also, you
did a fantastic job running the Quick Sketch.

I had an amazing time this year. I was honored to be asked to help
with the anime costume judging and had a great time with the
Alienated Productions crew at the contest, panel and my last-minute
judge training. I had a lot of fun and look forward to doing it again.

I ended up spending more time at my booth than I had originally
anticipated, so I didn't get to see as much of the show as I usually
do, but I really enjoyed what I saw. The Quick Sketch is always my
favorite part of the show, and the Charity Auction was quite fun as
well. Tommy Castillo, Glenn Barbis and the other auctioneers should
be applauded for their efforts.

The show was exhausting, but a great amount of fun.

Am I missing something? Do you have to be a MySpace member to view
the pics? I sure as heck don't have one and don't want one because of
some of the people who troll MySpace (Can you say: my name is Chris

Folks

Great news for our show for next year.

The New York Comicon will be back to February next year, so our show
shouldn't have the low attendence as it did this year. (lower than
normal).
And as long as there are no playoff games, we should have a tremenous
show. So start telling your friends, and email all the artists you
know.

Another great show as far as I'm concerned. My father was in the
hospital this year, so I was only able to attend the con on
Saturday, and for a brief time Sunday morning. Despite working the
Expomart entrance as usual, I was still able to get away to see and
do some stuff that made the con as fun for me as it always is.

Someone posted about original art, and I'm definitely an original
art collector - primarily con sketches, but occasionally I'll pick
up a published page if it catches my eye and is within my budget.
My primary collection is based on Sandman's sister Death. At this
years show I picked up...

Death sketch from Uko Smith
Death sketch from Talent Caldwell
Death sketch, and a Chewbacca cartoon from Katie Cook
Mary Marvel sketch from G.W. Fisher, which came with a FREE Rogue
sketch
And... a few others that I'm forgetting right now.

I think I'm up to between 80 and 90 pieces in my "Faces of Death"
collection now.

my online time is limited since i am in a very fast paced military school right now but i promise to get on when i can and add everyone who wants added as a friend. also if anyone would like something posted or what not on there just let me know.

Juried Art Show

‘Futuristic Art’ Exhibit

National Call for Artists

JUNE 13 – JULY 11 2008

The Associated Artists of Butler County (AABC) are pleased to announce a call for artists for an exhibit to open in the main Rittelmann Gallery. The show will be held from June 13th – July 11th, 2008 with the opening reception on Friday, June 13th from 7 – 9 pm at The Art Center. All artwork must represent the future: our town, world, universe, our fashion, technology, environment, music, film, aliens, spaceships, galaxies, etc

Judges prizes and awards will be presented during the opening reception on June 13th. The Art Center is a large airy open facility and is located at 344 South Main Street in Butler, PA. The site has been home to AABC for over 15 years.

About the AABC...The Art Center

The Associated Artists of Butler County is the oldest cultural organization in Butler County. Our rich history began in 1934 as our intent to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, as well as to encourage and foster art. From 19 original members our organization has grown to over 350 members.

In 1990 The Associated Artists of Butler County moved to our current residence at 344 South Main Street and established The Art Center. The new home of the Associated Artists of Butler County provides year round exhibits free and open to the public for viewing. There are nine shows a year scheduled in the Rittelmann Gallery, The Member's Gallery, The Underground Gallery and The Mezzanine Gallery. The Kid's Art Center features work by our young artists in the After School Program. We have several classrooms, a pottery lab with kilns and a library. The Gallery Shop provides the public with the opportunity to purchase work by our many talented members. The Spirit Cafe is held every Friday night (except during opening receptions) from 7 – 9 pm and serves as an open forum for the expression of art.

The Art Center's Mission: To encourage, foster, and promote the arts in the Butler County Community.

Hey folks. How about starting a list of creators you would like to
see at the 2009 Pittsburgh Comicon. The upcoming con season is when
the troops go out and recruit for next year's show.
