Adventure Photography tours for 2001:

ALASKA BY YACHT--June 7-13, 2001 You never know what wonders will
appear before our lenses from one moment to the next--breaching
humpback whales, bears, glaciers, harbor seals on icebergs, bald
eagles--and there will be time for shore excursions. We'll have the
entire boat to ourselves for this fantastic opportunity to photograph
the beauty of coastal Alaska while our private chef prepares
sumptuous, five-star meals. Only 6 spaces available! Approx. $3,000
per person, double occupancy, from Petersburg, AK.

ALASKA--BEARS! BEARS! BEARS!--June 23-29, 2001 Join us on a once-in-
a-lifetime adventure photographing Alaska's coastal grizzly bears in
a variety of habitats without being confined to a small platform.
We'll follow the bears as they forage in meadows laced with streams
and tidal flats beneath snowcovered Mt. Iliamna. This is a great
time to see young cubs! We'll also try to photograph puffins, swans
and a host of other Alaskan wildlife. In between the shooting
experiences of a lifetime we'll be relaxing and enjoying wonderful
meals at the Silver Salmon Lodge, at the edge of Lake Clark National
Park and only accessible by small plane and boat. Only 5 spaces
available! $3,495 per person, double occupancy, from Soldotna, AK.

COLORADO--ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH!--July 22-27, 2001 The best of the
Colorado Rockies at the peak of the wildflower season. We'll be
visiting some of the most spectacular scenery in the Rockies--
including Yankee Boy Basin, Crested Butte and the Maroon Bells.
Colorado is our home and we'd love to share some of its wonders with
you. Only 6 spaces available! $1,495 per person, double occupancy.

WILDLIFE MODELS & TETONS!--September 22-27, 2001 Spend four days
shooting well-trained wolves, mountain lions and other North American
wildlife against the incredible backdrop of the Grand Tetons in all
their autumn glory. This trip is a great bargain. It would cost
more for an individual just to photograph the animals than this
entire tour costs. This tour also makes a great addition to a fall
Yellowstone shoot. Only 6 spaces available! $2,295 per person,
double occupancy, from Jackson, WY.

MIDWEST MAGIC--FALL COLOR & WILDLIFE MODELS!--October 6-12, 2001
Photograph wildlife models amid the colors of a midwestern autumn.
For three days we'll be shooting everything from wolves and lynxes to
mink and beavers on a property that has its own river as well as
numerous ponds. The next three days will be spent photographing
autumn's splendor in Northern Wisconsin's Lake Country. The colors
equal anything New England has--without the crowds. And after a hard
day pushing shutter buttons, we'll return to rooms overlooking Lake
Namekagon and dine on fresh walleye. Only 6 spaces available!
$1,895.00 per person, double occupancy, from Minneapolis, MN.

NORTHERN ARIZONA/GRAND CANYON--October 29-November 3, 2001 Northern
Arizona's red desert is a scenic photographer's paradise. In
addition to the Grand Canyon, we'll visit Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon,
Wupatki National Monument, Canyon de Chelly and Petrified Forest
National Park. We'll spend five days photographing incredible rock
formations and ancient ruins. Only 8 spaces available! $1,595 per
person, double occupancy, from Flagstaff, AZ.

CALIFORNIA COAST--November 11-16, 2001 Southern California is a
winter paradise for bird photographers. An incredible variety of
waterfowl, gulls, shorebirds, herons, egrets and pelicans sometimes
make it difficult to know which way to point your lens. And many of
these birds have no fear of people. We'll be concentrating on Bolsa
Chica Wetlands and Upper Newport Bay with a day spent at San Diego
Wild Animal Park. Only 6 spaces available! $1,495 per person,
double occupancy.

BOSQUE DEL APACHE, NM--November 27-December 2, 2001 FULL MOON! New
Mexico's Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge should be on
every nature photographer's list of must see places. The sight and
sound of the flocks taking flight at sunrise is an experience you
will never forget. To make it even more special, we'll be there
during the full moon for the opportunity to create some truly
memorable images. Only 8 spaces available! $1,095 per person,
double occupancy, from Albuquerque, NM.

SOUTH TEXAS/GULF COAST--December 4-9, 2001 Spend five days
photographing white-tailed bucks & javelina at close range, as well
as song birds, wading birds, shorebirds and waterfowl. We'll also
spend a day on a boat especially designed to be stable enough for
long lens photography, giving us a good chance at getting some great
shots of endangered whooping cranes. Only 6 spaces available!
$1,395 per person, double occupancy, from Corpus Christi, TX.

ARCHES/CANYONLANDS--December 29-January 3, 2002 FULL MOON! NEW
YEARS! What better way to welcome in the New Year than photographing
these fantastic rock formations with a rising or setting full moon.
This is also an great time of year to visit, for there are no crowds
and the sun is low in the sky--ideal conditions for photography.
Only 6 spaces available! $1,295 per person, double occupancy, from
Grand Junction, CO.

SKAGIT VALLEY TULIP FESTIVAL, 2001
Washington State

APRIL 9th to APRIL 14th
6 inclusive days (5 nights)

$1,2O8 USD per person [land only]

Limited to 7 photographers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OUTLINE: Strong graphic compositions complimented by blazes of color will be a
prominent feature of this trip. We’ll make the best
of the early and late light at the best spots, and take in area highlights
during the day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SKAGIT VALLEY TULIP FESTIVAL, Washington State

The itinerary

‘Tulipomania’ was a term given to the craze over Tulips in Holland during the
period from 1634-37. We now invite you to invest in
your own colorful ‘Tulipomania’ via some striking and graphically strong
photography of the Tulip fields that blaze across
northwestern Washington every March and April. In addition to the Tulip bonanza
you’ll have the opportunity to photograph Seattle’s
highlights and some other worthy photo spots within reach of the Tulip fields.

DAY 1 To WASHINGTON STATE
Your midday flight into Seattle, Washington will be met by John, and on-route to
Mount Vernon, we’ll detour into Seattle for a
photo-walk around the Pike Street Market which was featured in the movie
‘Sleepless in Seattle’. On north for our first look at the
vibrant swaths of color beyond the Skagit River.
MOUNT VERNON 4 nights

DAYS 2, 3, and 4 TULIP FESTIVAL
During the next three days we'll explore many a back lane for those striking
images with good ‘compositional strength’.
We’ll rise above the fields on at least two occasions when we make use of the
Fuji Platform, which each year is strategically placed
to record some of the most colorful contrasts.
Besides the Tulips . . . Daffodils and Iris’s will be present, though all the
blooms will be at the mercy of creation’s timetable.
We’ll obviously pursue plenty of macro images, but for landscapes you’ll be able
to include various old barns, and the Cascade
mountain range to the east in your viewfinders.
We’ll also be on the look-out for workers out in the fields, who will afford us
some ‘human interest’ perspectives as we add to our
array of impressions of the region.
Added to this, we’ll break away on a couple of days to point our cameras at the
best the area has to offer in a landscape and
historical sense.
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is the photographer’s limitless palette of
color, and you’re sure to return home with images you
didn’t expect . . . we’ll guarantee that!

DAY 5 The TULIP FESTIVAL and SEATTLE
We’ll ‘mop-up’ our photography at the Tulip Festival this morning with a last
early start for the warm light as it falls upon the
dormant sentinels of a million flowers. You’d have to go to Holland to match the
array in Skagit Valley.
After midday we’ll set off south and make our way to Seattle. We’ll check into
our motel early, and following a break we’ll venture
out for dinner and some night photography of Seattle’s skyline.
SEATTLE 1 night

DAY 6 Flights home
Morning flights are recommended from Sea-Tac airport, and we’ll make sure you’re
there with time to spare for your flights home.

Hello!

My name is Fred Stevens, Owner/Operator/Generic Honcho of Silver
Trails Photo Seminars. I was just researching on the web and found
this great group! I thought I'd join and share what I can with the
members.

By way of introduction, I have been operating under the Silver Trails
Name since 1993. Prior to that, I operated a private photo school,
here in New Mexico, under my own name. I'm a life-long photographer,
and a practicing professional photographer since 1970. I began
instructing in photography in 1972, for the US Air Force's Morale &
Welfare section. I taught basic hobby photography, B&W darkroom and
led what were then called "field trips" to many New Mexico and
Colorado locations. In 1974, I opened up shop as a praire
photographer, doing studio, wedding, editorial, darkroom and wall-art
photography. (Out here you have to diversify or starve!).

Silver Trails evolved as the demand for my services switched ever
steadily toward more photographic instruction. My practice was
exclusively "one-to-one" custom tours until 1993, when I sold my
studio interests and, therefore, freed my schedule for group outings
on a regular basis.

My program features 20-24 scheduled group otuings each year, most to
America's National Parks and nearby photogenic locations. I also
continue my custom group and solo photo expedition business with 12-
15 custom outings per year.

My website can be found at http://www.trailmates.com. It has our
current schedule and detailed information on all of our offerings.
My presentation style is very relaxed, informal, and unpretentious.
I submit my attendees to a very photo-intensive, hands-on expedition
that is designed to maximize their image-producing output while
giving an optimal mix of exploration, learning and enjoyment. My
special beginners' workshops have been described by some reviewing
publications as photography "boot camp". I'm proud of that
characterization because it means we instill confidence and ability
in our participants while working them hard. We also have a great
time in the process! Over 60% of my annual business is made up of
repeat customers, a fact of which I am very proud. I have developed
many many lasting friendships over the years, with new ones always in
the making.

I hope to be a valued member of this group. I'd like to be a
resource person whenever possible. Like many of you, I have a VERY
busy road schedule, what with the touring and my own photographic
work and projects. However, I always answer my email, in as timely a
fashion as possible. And I love to talk photography, share ideas,
pass out information and shoot the breeze.

I offer my heart-felt greetings to you all and am pleased to be among
you!

Coppell, Texas, January 23, 2001: SMU School of Continuing Studies is offering
aspiring photographers the opportunity to learn the finer skills of their craft
while enjoying some of the most stunning landscapes of North America. Four
workshops are scheduled for the year, in April, July and September, each one in
a unique locale that offers tremendous learning opportunities for the
photographer.
Locations currently on the schedule include Arches National Park in the spring,
Banff and the Canadian Rockies this summer and, for autumn color, participants
can choose between the Colorado Rocky Mountains or Grand Teton National Park.

The four-day workshops consist of lectures and photography sessions in the
field. Although each location is different, the days generally begin with
photography sessions at sunrise and end after sunset. "The workshops are
designed to focus on learning", says Jacque Lytle, SMU Continuing Studies
Program Coordinator. The lectures cover both beginner and intermediate
photographic skills.

"We keep the groups very small so that each participant can have plenty of
one-on-one attention", said Rob Hull, a professional photographer and the leader
of the workshops. Although it's beneficial for participants to have a good
understanding of their equipment, Mr. Hull says, they don't need to be experts.

The specific agenda for each of the workshops is dependent upon the location and
the natural conditions at the time of the workshop although Mr. Hull adds "we
try to find a balance between classroom sessions, photography sessions in the
field and personal time to enjoy these spectacular locations." Also, the
workshop locations and dates were selected to present each setting in its prime.

The Workshops
Arches National Park
The workshop series begins with a trip to Arches National Park on April 4.
Located in the heart of the Colorado Plateau, Arches National Park is home to
natural stone arches, spires, fins and balanced rocks. Over 2,000 of these
natural spectacles are scattered among the 73,000-acre park. It is a place
where you can see erosion on a scale that is both grand and delicate.

Few places challenge a photographer's compositional skills like Arches National
Park. It's an environment of striking contrasts in color and texture.
Delicately balanced red rocks are set against the rich blue western sky with the
snow-capped La Sal Mountains as a background. Mr. Hull says "it's unlike any
other classroom you've been in."

Canadian Rockies
If you want to get out of the summer heat in Texas, join the group on July 5th
that will be photographing the azure blue glacier-fed lakes of Banff National
Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. There are few words to describe the
stunning beauty of these mountains. The area offers a natural richness that is
becoming increasingly rare and which has been recognized by being designated a
United Nation's World Heritage site.

Fall in the Colorado Rockies
For those who love nature's autumn displays, there are two workshops from which
to choose. The first scheduled September 19th, is in the Colorado Rockies.
Nestled in the San Juan Mountains is the base for this workshop, Ouray,
Colorado. Described as the "Switzerland of America", the entire town is listed
in the National Register of Historic Districts. From this quaint, picturesque
town, students will venture out to photograph gold and yellow aspens throughout
the region.

Grand Teton National Park
SMU GreatPhotography students will gather in Jackson, Wyoming on September 26th
when autumn colors invade the aspen and cottonwood trees along the Snake River
to form a spectacular frame for the Grand Teton mountain range. With no
foothills to impede their view, the craggy, rock-faced peaks tower 7,000 feet
above the valley floor.

As an optional add-on to this workshop, participants can spend an extra day, at
Wild Bunch Ranch photographing mountain lions, lynx and wolfs in a controlled
and natural setting. The ranch has streams, ponds, aspen groves, forest glades
and the stunning Grand Teton Mountains as a backdrop. Mr. Hull says that "each
of the animals is handled by a professional trainer that helps to ensure that
the photographer gets the shot they want.'

California's Mendocino Coast
Spring 2001 itinerary

If there is a lesser known, but equally beautiful part of California, then this
is it. A coastline that stretches north from the
Golden Gate Bridge to Fort Bragg just north of Mendocino. Dominated by sea
scapes and dotted by sea-stacks, there will be plenty of
quality photographic material during this short trip. The best of San Francisco
is included too. And then there is the little ocean
peninsula community of Mendocino to point one's lens at . . . a major jewel on
this photogenic coastline. Plus much more besides.

DAY 1 SAN FRANCISCO to BODEGA BAY
We'll meet your early afternoon flight into San Francisco airport and earnestly
photograph the Golden Gate Bridge prior to crossing
it and following the Pacific Ocean northwards. As we'll be back in San Francisco
the night before departure, we'll split the
highlights of Alamo Square, and the Golden Gate Bridge etcetera between the two
opportunities. [some of them twice!] Now on Highway
1, we'll pause to photograph coastal scenes alongside Bolinas and Tomales Bays
prior to descending on Bodega Bay for the night.
BODEGA BAY 1 night

DAYS 2, 3, 4 and 5 The MENDOCINO COAST
Sunrise on Bodega harbor and jetty this morning prior to taking well-earned
breakfasts. Then we'll journey north throughout most of
Day 2 with stops for the rugged coastline and highlights such as: Fort Ross
State Historic Park; Salt Point State Park; Schooner
Gulch State Beach; Point Arena lighthouse built 1908; and many a sea-stack and
time exploring the regional flora in macro etcetera.
Days 3, 4 and 5 will be spent leisurely photographing a short stretch of coast
that includes: historic Victorian Mendocino; the
dwarfed Mendocino Cypresses of the Pygmy Forest; Point Cabrillo lighthouse;
Mendocino Botanical Garden; Noyo Harbor; and Laguna
Point in McKerricher State Park. An optional extra is a short boat trip to
photograph the migrating Gray and Humpback Whales. Throw
in wild flowers and sea life, both airborne and in macro, and you'll be
capturing some memorable images. Do expect early and late
excursions for the best light, balanced with some midday relaxation.
FORT BRAGG 4 nights

DAY 6 To SAN FRANCISCO
The dawn light will bring another opportunity to capture the essence of the
region, and we recommend you make the effort one last
time! Our return journey will take us via the Navarro River Redwoods State Park,
and the vineyards of the Anderson Valley, and we
shall make stops along the way. We'll then join Highway 101 at Cloverdale, and
move swiftly south for north-side photography of the
Golden Gate Bridge. Then onto our accommodations and supper prior to the classic
twilight shot of the San Francisco skyline atop the
Victorian Terrace adjacent to Alamo Square.
SAN FRANCISCO 1 night

DAY 7 Flights Home
Morning flights home from San Francisco International airport this morning.

SOUTH AFRICAN WILDLIFE
PHOTOGRAPHIC TOUR
SEPTEMBER 2001

This tour offers extraordinary opportunities for wildlife, cultural
and landscape photography in some of the most scenic parts of eastern
South Africa.

THE TOUR LEADER
Ariadne Van Zandbergen was born and raised in Belgium. After
university, she started travelling in Africa and has since visited
about half of the countries on the African mainland. She is a full-
time professional travel and wildlife photographer and a SATOUR-
registered tour guide. Based in Johannesburg, she divides the year
between photographing in east, west and southern Africa and the
Indian Ocean Islands, and leading tours to the Kruger Park, Zululand
and other wildlife reserves in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Van Zandbergen has been the main or sole photographic contributor to
more than a dozen travel guides to African countries, including
covers for Bradt guides to Ethiopia, Ghana, Southern Africa by Rail
and Zanzibar. She is a major photographic contributor to Travel
Africa and other top wildlife and travel magazines published in or
about Africa.

Van Zandbergen has led more that twenty tours in the Kruger Park area
and Zululand, has spent weeks photographing in these areas and knows
the ground intimately . With her experience of travelling and
photographing in African conditions, she will ensure that the tour is
run to allow photographers to make the best of the light and
photographic opportunities.

The itinerary is constructed around photographers' requirements. We
go out before sunrise and photograph till the light gets too harsh
and then we come back for breakfast. Whenever possible, we move base
in the middle of the day, to keep the first and last hours of 'soft'
sunlight for photography.

THE ITINERARY

15 September
Depart in the evening from London Heathrow airport on direct
overnight flight to Johannesburg

16 September
Upon arrival at Johannesburg International Airport in the morning,
you will be transferred to your hotel in Pretoria. After lunch, we
take off to a nearby Ndebele village in Loopspruit. The Ndebele are
known for their highly-coloured and very photogenic finger-painted
houses, as well as for their colourful jewellery and dress. We return
to Pretoria to eat at a traditional Cape Dutch restaurant
specialising in South African cuisine and overnight at River Meadow,
B&B

17 September
After breakfast we leave for the lowveld of Mpumalanga Province. We
arrive mid-afternoon at Djuma Game Reserve in the renowned Sabi Sands
complex of private reserves, and settle in for three nights at a
private bush camp, all meals included. Djuma lies within a vast tract
of pristine African thornbush and is superb 'big five' territory,
famed for thrillingly close encounters with elephant, lion, buffalo
and especially leopard. In our private safari vehicle, under the
guidance of an experienced driver and tracker, we will have plenty of
time to seek out and photograph these magnificent creatures, as well
as a host of graceful antelope and colourful birds. Every night,
after a stop for 'sundowners', we will drive for an hour to seek out
elusive nocturnal creatures such as hyena and leopard by spotlight,
before returning to camp for a barbecue beneath a sparkling night sky.

18 & 19 September
Early morning and afternoon game drives, following the same pattern
as day 2.

20 September
After an early game drive and breakfast, we leave the lowveld and
ascend to Graskop, a small town attractively perched on the edge of
the escarpment. We spend the afternoon following the photogenic
panorama route, stopping to photograph some of the country's
prettiest waterfalls, the sweeping viewpoints over the lowveld, the
spectacular rock formations of the Blyde River Canyon, and the
picturesque, restored Victorian mining village of Pilgrim's Rest. We
spend the night in the small town of Sabie at the Sabie Floreat
Hotel, DBB.

21 September
A long drive skirting the mountainous border of Swaziland brings us
to Zululand and Itala Game Reserve, a particularly scenic reserve
with a modern rest camp set on a series of lush cliffs. Itala
harbours a wide variety of plains animals, including giraffe and
zebra, the mighty eland (Africa's largest antelope), the dainty
klipspringer, and the localised roan antelope and red hartebeest.
Like the other Zululand reserves, Itala is especially good for the
endangered white rhino and its more temperamental and elusive cousin,
the black rhino. In the afternoon, you can take either a self-guided
walking trail, photographing the semi-tame hyraxes that bound through
the rocky camp, or a game drive in our vehicle. Overnight in
Ntshondwe Camp, DBB.

22 September
We hope to get close to white or black rhino on a dawn walking safari
with an armed escort. After breakfast, a short drive takes us to
Mkuze Game Reserve, legendary among South African wildlife
photographers for its spacious hides, each set above a small
waterhole. We will be travelling towards the end of the dry winter
months, when the waterholes draw a steady stream of thirsty animals,
notably the handsome nyala antelope, families of warthog, stately
greater kudu, and even the occasional rhino. We relax in the
comfortable hides and wait for the animals to come to us, enjoying
the incessant birdsong and wilderness atmosphere that characterise
this reserve. Overnight at Ghost Mountain Inn, DBB.

23 September
After another morning in a hide at Mkuze Game Reserve, we drive for
an hour to Ndumo, a lush tropical game reserve dotted with forest-
lined 'pans' (small lakes). We can photograph giraffe, rhino, red
duiker and other animals against a backdrop of yellow fever trees and
green grass. We will stay at an organically-constructed luxury tented
camp overlooking a reed-lined waterway in one of South Africa's most
scenic reserves and its finest birdwatching site. Overnight at Ndumo
Wilderness Camp, full board.

24 September
After a morning walk, we drive east for an hour until we reach
Rocktail Bay Lodge, an exclusive complex of stilted tree houses set
in the forest canopy, just a few yards from the sandy shore of the
Indian Ocean. Rocktail Bay is situated in a virgin environment in
South Africa's wildest, most undeveloped coastal reserve. The coastal
reserve has recently been proclaimed a world heritage site. We will
focus our photography on the extraordinary beach scenes, rippling in
the coastal dunes, etc. - or you can just take a day's rest in this
luxurious beach retreat. Overnight at Rocktail Bay Lodge, full
board.

25 September
We return inland, driving for about 2½ hours to reach
Hluhluwe/Umfolozi, South Africa's oldest game reserves, and renowned
for saving the black rhino from extinction. Home to all the 'Big
Five', this marvellous, hilly reserve boasts Africa's densest
concentrations of black and white rhino and is an excellent place to
photograph giraffe, zebra, warthog, vervet monkeys, buffalo and the
beautiful nyala and impala antelopes. The lush mountain landscapes
provide ample opportunities to photograph animals in scenic
surroundings. We do our game drives in a private safari vehicle.
Overnight at Hluhluwe Inn, DBB.

26 September
Full day in Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Reserve. Overnight Hluhluwe Inn, DBB.

27 September
After our morning game drive, we go to the heart of Zululand to visit
a cultural village located a few miles from the place where Shaka
Zulu founded this mighty African nation. As we learn about Zulu
culture, we spend some private time with these proud people in a
traditional Zulu kraal. We will be able to photograph the exuberant
dancing and drumming, and concentrate on portraits of young women
decorated in extravagantly colourful beads and warriors dressed in
animal hides. We will enjoy a traditional meal of stew, beans and
maizemeal porridge, drink local millet beer, and sleep in comfortable
huts designed in traditional 'beehive' style. Overnight at
Kwabekitunga, full board.

28 September
After breakfast, we head for Durban, an atmospheric, cosmopolitan
seaport. We visit the Indian Market and have lunch on the beachfront
before we leave for the airport to catch an evening flight to
Johannesburg to connect with our direct overnight flight to the UK.

01 October
Arrive London Heathrow in early morning

Price: £2395/$3595 per person sharing twin/double accommodation
including return flights from London.

Participants originating from North America may make their own
arrangements to London or to Johannesburg or consult Rainbow Tours
for advice about routes and prices from points in the US and Canada
(info@...).

10 inclusive days (9 nights)

$1,995 per person

Limited to 7 photographers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OUTLINE
Pristine winterscapes, accessible wildlife, Grand Teton sunrises and sunsets,
cowboys, West Yellowstone, Idaho and multi-image
interludes.

YELLOWSTONE and TETONS, WYOMING - 2001 WINTER ITINERARY

The crowds are gone, the wildlife is photographable from close in, and all is
peaceful in Yellowstone National Park as another
winter takes it’s course. This is a crisp, pristine and quiet time of year in
the park, and the likes of the Grand Canyon of the
Yellowstone never look better than when bathed in winter sunlight. Grab your
photo gear and join us!

DAY 1 To YELLOWSTONE N. P., WYOMING
Your midday flight into Bozeman, Montana will be met by John, and on route to
Gardiner we'll pause to photograph the occasional
Montana winter scene. After hotel check-in we'll venture into Yellowstone
national park in the late light for our first look at
wildlife that abounds there.
GARDINER 5 nights

DAYS 2, 3, 4, and 5 * YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
During the next four days we'll explore the immediate Mammoth Hot Springs area,
and have the use of our own van in which we can
casually ‘patrol’ the Mammoth to Cooke City road . . . the only road open in the
park and along which we'll be on the lookout for
Elk, Bison, Antelope, Bighorn Sheep, Coyote and Deer etc.. On a day trip aboard
a custom snowcoach, we'll visit the magnificent
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and many other park gems, while shooting
wildlife, natural history and snow scapes as we go.
Occasional evenings and free time will include informal slide and print
critiques, and a smattering of John's multi-image programs,
known as 'Visual Journeys'. John's style in the main is to produce 'third
images' with two projectors, and you'll find these both
relaxing and inspiring.

DAY 6 To WEST YELLOWSTONE, MONTANA
Following hearty breakfasts we’ll get on the road to West Yellowstone - shooting
as we go - and take lunch in Bozeman. Via the
Gravelly and Madison mountain ranges via Ennis to rendezvous with a Cowboy or
two who provide some striking images on our Autumn
trips. West Yellowstone puts us halfway to Grand Teton National Park, and is a
community born out of Yellowstone N. P. needs.
WEST YELLOWSTONE, MONTANA 1 night

DAY 7 WEST YELLOWSTONE to GRAND TETON N. P., WY, (via Idaho)
Leaving West Yellowstone this morning, our first encounter will be with the
Henry's Lake mountains of Idaho, and they will be the
backdrop for some rustic cabin shots in the vicinity of Henry's Lake. Lunch in
Ashton, and more stops and minor detours in Tetonia
county for some worthy frames. You'll find
that the Teton peaks are almost as spectacular from the west side at Grand
Targhee ski area, then on into Jackson, Wyoming for our 3
night stay in town.
JACKSON 3 night

DAYS 8 and 9 GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK
Winter sunrises on the Teton peaks are among America's best, and during our two
days of photographing the park, we'll capture many a
scene that would fit cozily into a breath mint commercial. The park also has
it’s fair share of wildlife, and we shall offer a
sleigh ride to photograph elk . . . part of the feeding and protection program
there. Deep in the park we'll pursue Moose, Otter and
Trumpeter Swans besides many a scene with a Teton backdrop.

DAY 10 Flights home
Another great sunrise if weather permits, and back to Jackson for hot
breakfasts. Check-out of our motel, and a short ride to
Jackson Hole airport for morning flights home.

THE MAGIC OF ITALY
September 12-October 3, 2001

Italy has created many of the world's most sublime works of art,
literature, and architecture, spawned some of the greatest empires
of the ancient and medieval world, and is now one of Europe's
wealthiest and most economically vibrant countries. Few are as
rich and endlessly fascinating.

Our adventure begins in Milan, home to Europe's most extravagant
Gothic cathedral, the world's most famous opera house (La Scala),
the original Galleria shopping mall, and Leonardo da Vinci's Last
Supper.

The aura of isolation that has surrounded five coastal villages known
as the Cinque Terre, together with their dramatic coastal scenery,
has made them one of the eastern Riviera's most stunning attractions.
Clinging haphazardly to steep cliffs, these enchanting pastel-colored
villages are linked by train, boat, and oceanside footpaths. A day of
leisure in Cinque Terre allows you to explore the villages and hike
the trails at your own pace.

Farther south is one of Italy's most famous landmarks, the Leaning
Tower of Pisa, just one part of a lovely ensemble of medieval
buildings on the Campo dei Miracoli, or Field of Miracles. Begun in
1173 as the Cathedral's campanile, the tower started to lean almost
immediately, the result of the sandy subsoil under its foundation.

No other city can match Rome's artistic, historical, and architectural
riches. During our three days here we see the Colosseum and Forum,
the famed Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. We
delight in the art and sculpture at the Borghese Gallery and the Vatican
museums, see St. Peter's Basilica (largest church in the world) and the
Sistine Chapel, take in the fabulous view from Castel Sant'Angelo, and
enjoy a walking tour in Trastavere. Plus there's plenty of free time to
pursue your own interests, be it shopping, photography, more museums,
or just people-watching in the many piazzas and campos.

We visit the excavation of Ostia Antica, Rome's ancient port city, before
continuing on to Herculaneum and Pompeii. Volcanic ash and mud preserved
these two Roman towns almost exactly as they were on the day Mount
Vesuvius erupted in A.D. 79.

The Amalfi Coast is Italy's most beautiful stretch of coastline, an enclave
of towering cliffs, idyllic villages tumbling colorfully to the sea,
precipitous corniche roads, luxuriant gardens, and magnificent vistas over
turquoise waters. At its lower end lies Paestum, with its remarkably well
preserved Greek temples.

Forming an expanse of gentle pastoral countryside and high mountain
wilderness, the picturesque region of Umbria has been called the "Green
Heart of Italy." It's well known for its beauty and profusion of medieval
hill towns, among them Orvieto with its magnificent Gothic cathedral,
and Assisi, home to the Basilica di San Francesco, the burial place of
Italy's patron saint. The atmospheric old center of Perugia, Umbria's
capital, still resonates with the echoes of its Etruscan, Roman, and
medieval past.

Tuscany is a paradise of vineyards, flower-strewn fields, olive groves,
and rolling hills. Age-old towns and villages, overflowing with churches
and galleries, are scattered about its beautiful countryside. Siena is one
of Italy's most gracious and perfect medieval towns, and the walled city
of San Gimignano is best known for its skyline silhouette of 15 ancient
towers. North of Siena, the main scenic attraction is Chianti, a region of
wooded hills and vineyards, wheat fields, cypress-topped hills, and rustic
stone farmhouses.

Birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence has been a mecca for travelers
since the 19th century. Renaissance treasures fill a host of churches,
museums, and galleries -- the Accademia, Bargello, Uffizi, and Pitti
Palace among them. A day of leisure here allows time for exploration
on your own, in addition to our planned sightseeing.

Ravenna is a surprisingly pleasant medley of old streets, fine shops,
and peaceful piazzas, but it's best known for its 1,500-year-old
churches decorated with superb mosaics from the Byzantine period.

We end our grand tour of Italy in Venice -- its famed Grand Canal
flanked by sumptuous palaces, the massive Basilica di San Marco, and
the Palazzo Ducale. Two full days of leisure time here (during the
full moon) offer ample opportunity to explore the famous squares,
charming neighborhoods, islands of the lagoon, galleries and churches,
cruise the canals on a vaporetto or gondola, enjoy the cuisine, take in a
Vivaldi concert, or whatever suits your fancy.

This is a comprehensive tour of the best Italy has to offer. Send now
for a brochure with complete details, and plan to join us in September.

ULTIMATE KENYA SAFARI
July 21-August 9, 2001

The excitement of our safari begins as we drive through Kenya's
lush central highlands to Mount Kenya National Park. On the way,
we stop at Ngandu School to meet the children and teachers, and
to donate books and school supplies. Mountain Lodge, our rustic
hotel, is built on stilts over a waterhole and salt lick where
elephant, buffalo, and several species of antelope come to drink.
In addition to the view from your room and the veranda, a unique
underground bunker allows close-up photography at elephant-foot
level.

We then spend four nights at Samburu, typical of Kenya's semi-arid
regions. Though one of the smallest game reserves in all of Kenya,
Samburu is rich in many species rarely seen elsewhere -- the Grevy's
zebra, reticulated giraffe, oryx, gerenuk, and tiny dik-dik -- as well
as leopard, baboon, warthog, impala, and lots of elephants.

We then fly back to Nairobi. The next morning we head for Amboseli
-- with over 700 elephants -- famous for its superb game-viewing at
the foot of spectacular Mount Kilimanjaro. We spend three nights at
Amboseli, and each day we seek out the many species of wildlife
which abound here.

From Amboseli we fly to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Here, on the
northern Serengeti, vast herds of zebra, wildebeest, and antelope
roam the plains by the thousands. Our new home for a glorious five
nights is Governors Camp, one of Africa's most famous and luxurious
tented camps. From our open-top Land Cruisers we see cheetah, lion,
giraffe, Cape buffalo, elephant, hippo, hyena, warthog, and much
more. The most exciting highlight of our 2000 safari was watching
Sawadi, our favorite leopard, jump on the back of two fighting male
impalas and take down one of them!

If you've always dreamed of seeing Africa, or if Africa got into your
blood on a previous safari and you long to return, don't wait a minute
longer. Send for a brochure and make plans now to join me in July.

Iranian borders in the east, and on up to the Black Sea coast.

We begin in Istanbul with a special performance by the mystical
Whirling Dervishes. We also visit mosques, bazaars, palace museums,
an intriguing Ottoman cemetery, and cruise the Bosphorus before
heading south to explore the great ruins of Ephesus and Pergamun.

We see Sirince, famous for its stone houses, before continuing on to
Pamukkale. The "Cotton Fortress" is a shimmering white cascade
formed by limestone-laden hot springs which have formed stalactites,
potholes, and magical fairy tables.

We visit Konya, where the Whirling Dervish sect was founded, then
drive to Cappadocia, a region of wildly different topography inhabited
since the earliest times. Painted churches, underground cities, and a
lunar landscape with ghost-like pinnacles of rock will amaze you.

Farther east is Nemrut Dagi. Atop its summit stand gigantic statues of
the gods, their heads resting on the ground before them, toppled by
earthquakes. Over 2000 years old, the heads alone are taller than a man.

In the south, Urfa, once called Edessa, is known to be the city of
prophets. We stroll through the old bazaar, almost medieval in
character, and Balikli Gol, the mosque complex surrounding Abraham's
cave, which is revered as the birthplace of Abraham.

We make an excursion to Harran, a Biblical town near the Syrian
frontier where, according to the Bible, Abraham stayed several
millennia ago, and which is still made up of beehive houses built of
mud.

East of Urfa is Mardin, a very old town crowned with a castle and
a set of immense radar domes, all overlooking the vast Syrian plains.
We stop for a look at the Monastery of Deir-ul-Zaferan, founded in 792
and once the seat of the Syrian Orthodox patriarch, as well as an Arab-
style mosque built by Seljuk Turks from Iraq in the 1000s, and Kasim
Pasa Medresesi, dating from the 1400s.

Lake Van, Turkey's largest inland body of water, was formed long ago
by a volcanic eruption. Here we take a boat to a small island where a
10th-century Armenian church is decorated with high-relief figures
depicting stories from the Bible. We also visit the Urartian Castle of Van.

Our next destination is Doguebeyazit, a town set in the shadow of Mount
Ararat and less than 20 miles from the Iranian border. Farther on, the
ruins of ancient Ani, near Kars, are the skeleton of a medieval metropolis
which sprawled across the endless meadows of the high plateau. At the
height of its fortunes, it was a city of 100,000 inhabitants and the
legendary 1,000 churches.

The road to Artvin passes across the mountains through increasingly
more idyllic meadowlands to burst into some of the most verdant
alpine landscape imaginable. The little town of Artvin is perched on a
mountainside above the narrow Coruh valley, the view through the layers
of cloud above or below the town absolutely breathtaking.

We pass through tea plantations and past typical wooden houses of the
Black Sea coast to Trabzon, which retains much of its genteel charm
and many traces of a fabulous past. The old port dates from Emperor
Hadrian; the grandiose city walls, culminating in the citadel which
houses the ruins of the imperial palace, are the work of Justinian.
Later monuments are Byzantine. A highlight of our time here is an
excursion to the Monastery of the Black Virgin at Sumela, which clings
improbably and dramatically to a mist-shrouded rock cliff in the wild
mountains south of the city.

The Turkey tour two years ago sold out early, so don't delay in
requesting a brochure if you want to join us on this new itinerary
in 2001.

Hi Nadine,

Thanks for putting our workshops out on your listings again. You are going
to shoot me, but I have given you a wrong date on the Death Valley Workshop.
It really begins Feb 24 instead of Feb 23. Maybe the next time you update
the listing you can make the correction for us. I'm sorry. Not sure where I
got that date, but I've used it incorrectly a couple of places.

Thanks for your help,

We currently lead a photo workshop in the Lake Clark National Park area.
Our next photo workshop to that region is scheduled for September 9-15,

Cathy & Gordon ILLG lead Adventure Photography's tours--two
professional leaders for the price of one! Below is our current list
of tours. We are just finalizing the summer (Alaska!) and fall, 2001
tours and they will be published soon. Please check out our website
at www.advenphoto.com for further information. We'd love to hear
from you and have you join us on an adventure.

BOSQUE DEL APACHE NWR
MOONLIGHT MADNESS & FLIGHTS OF ENCHANTMENT
December 9 - 14, 2000 $1050.00

Thousands of honking snow geese wheel against the rising sun,
sometimes appearing to be just out of arm's reach. The primordial
call of sandhill cranes is added to the din created by the geese as
they leave their roosting areas. New Mexico's Bosque del Apache
National Wildlife Refuge should be on every nature photographer's
list of must see places, and the sight--and sound--of the flocks
taking flight at sunrise is an experience you will never forget. To
make it even more special, we'll be there during the full moon for
the opportunity to create some truly special images.

We'll spend five days photographing the cranes, snow geese, coyotes,
herons, roadrunners and raptors, as well as one of the most
incredible petroglyph displays in the country.

Bosque is one the world's premier locations for taking flight
photos. Join us as we marvel at the incredible spectacle the birds
put on, and for instruction in wildlife photography.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
A BONANZA OF BIRDS & BEACHES
January 6 - 11, 2001 $1495.00

Southern California is a winter paradise for bird photographers. An
incredible variety of waterfowl, gulls, shorebirds, herons, egrets
and pelicans sometimes make it difficult to know which way to point
your lens. And to make it even more special, many of these birds
have no fear of people.

We'll be spending two days in La Jolla where we'll be able to walk
from our hotel to the ocean and photograph pelicans and hopefully
harbor seals, also. We'll also spend two days in Huntington Beach
where we'll concentrate on Bolsa Chica Wetlands and Upper Newport
Bay. A new addition to this trip is a day at the San Diego Wild
Animal Park in Escondido. In addition to some regular exhibits that
are outstanding for photography, like the cheetahs and meerkats, this
zoo also has incredible numbers of wild waterfowl, herons and egrets
that the photographer can walk right up to. It makes a great place
to practice some of the skills you've learned.

Join us for five days of wildlife photography and instruction, as we
watch the birds, bask in the California sun and breathe in the sea
air.

ARCHES & CANYONLANDS
VALENTINES DAY IN THE HEART OF CANYON COUNTRY
February 10 - 15, 2001 $1250.00

The incredible shapes, the colors of the rock and the magnificent
sweeping vistas make the area around Arches and Canyonlands National
Parks in eastern Utah one of our favorite places to photograph. And
Valentine's Day is an ideal time of year to visit, for there are no
crowds and the sun is low in the sky--ideal conditions for
photography. This is also an ideal trip to bring a non-shooting
significant other on, and they are welcome to join us photographers
as we try to capture the wonders of the region on film, or they can
just relax at the bed and breakfast where we'll be staying.

We'll be spending four nights at a rather unique bed and breakfast in
Moab. After photographing sunrise over the arches and red rock
vistas, we'll return to a fabulous late breakfast. Besides being a
culinary wiz, the owner of the bed and breakfast is also a great
guide, and we'll have the chance to photograph petroglyphs, arches,
desert waterfalls and other incredible scenes that few visitors ever
see. If the weather permits, we'll also photograph some star tracks,
and there's always a wonderful soak in the hot tub waiting at the end
of the day.

Join us as we wander among these stone monuments to the ages, and
pick up some valuable tips on photographing this magnificent
landscape.

SOUTHERN FLORIDA
HERONS & EGRETS & GATORS, OH MY!
March 3 - 9, 2001 $1995.00

South Florida in spring is a place no bird photographer should ever
miss, but it's more than just a marvelous place to photograph wading
birds of every hue and size. There are also alligators, turtles,
lizards, and often raccoons and possibly even crocodiles. But birds
are the big draw, and we'll have great opportunities to shoot two
species of vultures, nesting ospreys, red-shouldered hawks, pelicans,
anhingas, ibis and of course, every species of heron and egret native
to this country, including some time at a rookery where large numbers
of them are nesting.

Unlike most photography tours, during the days we're photographing at
Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, we'll actually stay on Sanibel
Island right on the beach. We'll be minutes from the refuge rather
than half an hour. We'll also stay in the Flamingo Lodge at the tip
of Everglades National Park, so we'll wake up in the middle of
photographic opportunities rather than having to drive for an hour to
reach them. We'll dine on fresh seafood (or whatever you fancy) at
the Lodge as we enjoy the view of Florida Bay.

Join us for six days of unparalleled nature photography and
instruction.

SOUTHERN ARIZONA
SUNSETS & SAGUAROS
April 14 - 19, 2001 $1595.00

Southern Arizona is a wonderland of weird plants, desert mountain
ranges and an incredible variety of wildlife. We'll be spending five
days in luxurious accommodations in the foothills of the Santa
Catalina Mountains in Tucson. We'll see birds in every color of the
rainbow (we'll be there at the height of the nesting season), many
species of cactus in bloom, some nearly tame javelina and numerous
reptiles (hopefully Gila monsters, spiny lizards and several species
of snakes).

We grew up here, and we are intimately familiar with this region. In
addition to familiar but still wonderful attractions like the Desert
Museum and Saguaro National Park, we'll be able to show you sights
and scenes that few visiting photographers ever see.

Joins us for an opportunity to photograph the wildlife, plants and
scenery of the Sonoran Desert while you learn some professional
techniques for capturing the desert on film. Southern Arizona
sunsets are a sight you won't want to miss.

Most tour operators are just putting their 2001 sechedules together and the
bear tours usually take place during the summer months. If you wait another
month or two, you should have more choices. Right now there is only one
listed in this group and it is for Katmai. You can find information on it

ALABAMA HILLS PHOTO EXPLORATION
Friday-Sunday, March 9-11, 2001

Early enough in the year so there will still be snow on Mt. Whitney,
yet late enough to avoid nasty weather. Superb photography in one of
my favorite places! The rounded boulders of the Alabama Hills
(located in the southern section of the eastern Sierra -- the town of
Lone Pine on Highway 395) provide an incredible foreground for your
landscape shots of the eastern Sierra that rise up before you. We'll
also visit and photograph Manzanar, Laws Railroad Museum, and a
number of petroglyph locations (rocks with carved petroglyphs and
snow-covered mountains in the background -- hoo ha!). Other
possibilities include bright purple bush lupine, the fluorescent
colors of lichens as they grow on boulders, weathered wood and
peeling paint. Registration fee: $330 per person; $300 if you're
a "California Photographer" newsletter subscriber. Includes
instruction throughout, breakfast each morning,and a follow-up
written critique and color photo collage. $100 deposit reserves your
space; balance due January 9, 2001.

===========================================

BIG SUR PHOTO EXPLORATION
March 19-22, 2001

The words "Big Sur" conjure up images of crashing surf, old growth
redwoods, waterfalls plunging into the sea, sunsets, rock formations,
and an incredibly beautiful coast. We invite you to join us for a
photo exploration of this area, where we'll be based in the solitude
and quiet of the Big Sur Lodge, located in the heart of Big Sur.
We'll photograph at a variety of places each day, making sure we're
at each location at the right time for optimum lighting. Registration
fee includes your accommodations at the historic Big Sur Lodge, all
meals, instruction throughout, admission to any parks we may visit,
and a follow-up written critique and color collage of everyone's
work. This is a beautiful combination of luxury and quiet mixed with
exciting photography in the company of others who appreciate the same
visual possibilities that you do. Registration fee: $949 per person;
or $799 per person if you're sharing your room with a photographing
partner, spouse, significant other, butler, etc. A deposit of $200
per person will hold your space; balance due January 19, 2001.

===========================================

WILDFLOWERS & WATERFALLS IN THE GOLD RUSH
March 30-April 1, 2001

We'll spend a weekend photographing the best wildflower locations
around Nevada County plus some rushing waterfalls. We'll also spend
time here in our Nevada City home and office where we'll conduct
slide programs, take a look at your work, and even create greeting
cards using your photographs. Seminar registration fee includes all
meals (prepared by Chris, our gourmet cook!), instruction throughout,
our 178-page notebook Nature Photography and the Art of Seeing, and
whatever greeting cards you create using our slide scanner and color
printer. Each person also receives a written follow-up critique of
their work and a color photo collage with a sampling of everyone's
photos on it. This is a small, personalized, intimate workshop that
fills quickly. Registration fee: $345 per person; $315 if you're
a "California Photographer" newsletter subscriber. $100 reserves your
spot; balance due January 30, 2001. Limited to 6 people.

WALK ON THE WILD SIDE: SACRAMENTO ZOO PHOTO WALK (3 hours)
Saturday, April 7, 2001
9 a.m. to noon

We'll take you to the best exhibits the zoo has to offer and will
provide instruction along the way -- pointing out possible exposure
problems, composition problems, what to look for and to look out for.
This is a good jumpstart for an all-day visit at the zoo -- join us
for a few hours in the morning and then spend the rest of the day on
your own roaming the zoo. Registration fee: $40 per person. Includes
instruction throughout. Does not include zoo admission fee, which is
about $9. Limited to 6 photographers.

===========================================

WILDFLOWER PHOTO WALK IN NEVADA CITY (3 hours)
Sunday, April 8, 2001
9 a.m. to noon

This is a flat, wide, easy walk that takes us past a variety of photo
possibilities, including dew-sprinkled lupine leaves, bright yellow
mariposa tulips, bright green buckeye leaves, and a lot more. The
beauty of this trail is that it was designed for wheelchair access,
which means that a lot of the things we'll be photographing are at
eye level -- not much scrabbling around on your hands and knees to
photograph! You'll learn about lenses, filters, reflectors and
diffusers, and a lot more. We pack a lot of info in this short walk!
Registration fee: $40 per person. Limited to 6 photographers.

===========================================

PT. REYES PHOTO EXPLORATION
April 16-19, 2001

Sort of like our Mendocino coast trip, but different! We've rented an
entire bed & breakfast -- the Pt. Reyes Country Inn -- as our base of
operations. We'll conduct our photo explorations from this site,
conveniently close to all the beautiful locations Pt. Reyes has to
offer, including the lighthouse, the tule elk herd, sculptured cliffs
that are dramatically lighted at sunset, and spring wildflowers.
Other photo possibilities include great blue herons and egrets, calm
lagoons and crashing waves. Your registration fee includes
instruction throughout the trip, all your meals, as well as your
luxury accommodations (including private bath) at the B&B. Every room
at the B&B has a private balcony or garden. You'll also receive a
written follow-up critique/commentary and a color photo collage of
everyone's work. Point Reyes National Seashore is located just north
of San Francisco, in Marin County. Registration fee: $949 per person;
or $799 per person if you're sharing your room with a photographing
partner, spouse, significant other, butler, etc. $200 deposit per
person holds your space; balance due February 16, 2001.

Our weekend photo exploration of the Mendocino coast provides you
with the very best Mendocino has to offer, which is a lot. In
addition to superb ocean panoramas, we'll visit their famous
botanical garden, where the ocean bluffs are covered with iceplant
flowers in neon shades of magenta, orange, pink, yellow and red. An
exploration of tiny Noyo Harbor gives us the chance to photograph
fishing boats, Coast Guard vessels, too many gulls to count, and
more. Lots of time will be spent photographing wildflowers, overviews
of the historic town of Mendocino. Since we'll be staying in the
Lightkeeper's Cottages at Point Arena Lighthouse, we'll also be
taking twilight shots of the sweep of the lighthouse beacon --
remarkably easy yet effective photography. Registration fee includes
all meals (some of them prepared right there at the cottages by
Chris, our resident gourmet), accommodations, instruction throughout,
admission to the botanical garden, and a follow-up critique and color
collage.

Three different rooms to choose from: room with queen-size
bed/private bath; room with one double bed/bath across the hall; room
with two twin beds/bath across the hall.

Registration fee: $675 for queen; $595 for room with double bed; $595
for room with twin beds. All rooms are private; should you choose to
share your room with a spouse, partner, significant other, etc., the
rates would be: $485 per person for queen; $445 per person for the
double; $445 per person for the twins.

$200 deposit per person holds your space; balance due March 10, 2001.

FLOWER FIELDS AND LA PURISIMA MISSION IN LOMPOC
Saturday-Sunday, June 9-10, 2001
The two most photogenic spots in Lompoc are the flower fields in full
bloom and the old La Purisima Mission. In this mini-workshop (limited
to 6 photographers), we'll give you tips and suggestions on how to
shoot in both locations, show you slides and equipment, work with you
in the field, and we'll even feed you!

The workshop begins mid-morning on Saturday at our hotel, where we'll
show slides as well as demonstrate the use of reflectors, diffusers,
and other gadgets. After lunch (included in your registration fee),
we'll head over to La Purisima Mission, which is quite pretty in late
afternoon sunlight. During this afternoon shoot we'll be there to
point things out, offer suggestions, etc. We'll have a group dinner
that evening (included in your registration fee). The next morning
after breakfast (provided by us), we'll go out to the flower fields
to fill our frames with acres of sweetpeas, cosmos, sunflowers —
whatever's in bloom. Typically we end around noon and you're on your
own to go home, shoot some more, or whatever.

Registration fee: $175 per person. This includes:
Photographer's guide to the flower fields in Lompoc
Photographer's guide to La Purisima Mission
All meals (lunch, dinner, and breakfast)
Instruction throughout
Follow-up written commentary/critique
Color collage of everyone's work

There are a multitude of opportunities for watching bears feeding in
Alaska. The more familiar locations are McNeil River,Catmai National
Park, Pack Creek on Admiralty Island, and Anan Creek for for black
bear. At the popular viewing sites, visitors are escorted in groups
to designated viewing areas by forest service or park officials for a
limited period of time. Another bear viewing option is to go to some
of the more remote less popular areas for a more unrestricted
opportunity, however it is recommended that you use a guide familiar
with the area and wild bears.
Alaska Sea Adventures, my business, specializes in accessing the
remote areas of SE Alaska by charter yacht including Admiralty
Island, which has the highest density of brown bears in the world. We
work with groups of photographers on week long expeditions to remote
Alaska locations along the Inside Passage islands and fjords for
wildlife viewing opportunities which include bears and whales.
