Well, the website hosting costs are consolidated anyway, they all link back
to a main site, all it takes to keep a web domain active (such as
girlgenius.net or zapgunforhire.com) is a $10-$15 yearly payment to one of the
internet registrar companies. But yes, they probably just let that one drop
for one less thing to keep track of. I DO see though that they still own
buckgodot.com, I didn't even realize they had that domain name. They have

As I've said before, I really, REALLY would have preferred more Buck
stories to _Girl Genius._ It isn't that I don't like Girl Genius---I
do, a lot---but I like Buck _better._ I can understand that it's the
Foglios' decision to do this, and that they had this character, and
this world, that they were just aching to do...but I do wish they had
chosen differently.

My guess is that the Foglios believe that What's New with Phil and Dixie, or at
least Buck Godot, Zap Gun for Hire, contain slightly more mature content than
Girl Genius does and will contain.
I suppose one could go to the "Our Store" link, and then trim everything off of
the URL except
http://www.studiofoglio.com/
but there is indeed no path consisting only of links that I can find.
From what I understand, they let Zap Gun go because it was old and specifically

I will grant you that it is a wise move to read something by an unfamiliar
author before buying it. However how much risk is there in buying the first book
of a series in order to see if it is worth reading? Especially if you can find a
good quality used edition at a very reasonable price. Hellfire, I've bought new
books from some of my favorite authors that I've not been able to finish.

get a feel of the author's style before I buy it. While I know that most

I have this habit of wanting to read a bit of a book by an unfamiliar author to

I have to agree with some others that I found Xanth to get a bit "childish" as I
got older. That and I started to find Peirs Anthony (the man) a bit weirder as I
read more and more of his introductions, which started to put me off. <grin>
IMHO, Alan Dean Foster's "Spellsinger" series probably stands up to reading (or
re-reading) by a more mature audience better than PA's Xanth.
Of course, all stories would benefit from a Studio Foglio treatment. (he says,
madly trying to get things back on topic, since he is co-moderator!) But I guess
we need the Foglio empire to grow a bit more before they can be sub-contacting
work out to South Korea and elsewhere. Still dreaming of seeing some animated
Foglio work at some point too. An adaption of "Illegal Aliens" would be awesome!

If you're interested in Piers Anthony's non-Xanth (but still punny)

Personal opinions, YMMV:
I like Spider Robinson's Callahan's stories, though if you don't like bizarre
puns this series might not be for you. Start with Callahan's Crosstime Saloon
and go on from there. Warning: Callahan's wife runs an "enlightened" bordello in
some of the books, so if you have issues with that (or with Phil Foglio's sexier
comics), go no further.
I want to check out MythAdventures, but the books are hard to find in
Albuquerque.
I don't like Xanth, because of the unfunny, childish jokes. Sorry.
Xanth is a great series...but if you don't like puns, you will either end up
with a head-size hole in your wall or a large knot on your head...probably
both...

Read the Xanth books as they came out up to about book 9. Never bothered to
go back a reread them. Myth series on the other hand gets a sporadic
rereading every now and then. I even have the first 6 books signed by Bob
Asprin. Now if I ever get to the US or manage to get Phil out here for a
convention...

A doubly-historic page (purely for geeky reasons) because the "evil" snail
familiar is given a message to deliver in this installment, and he
continues to appear at the bottom of the page (slowly advancing across it) for
the
rest of the run of "What's New" until the final strip is printed. I wonder
if the Foglios ever put THIS page up for sale, and what it would fetch
now, with getting close to a decade of "Girl Genius" stories in print.
