The original PhilMusic mailing list was founded in July 1996 by Jim Ayson and Migs Paraz. This actually predates PhilMusic.Com (which went online later, in February 1997). Here was the original charter (we'll revise this soon!)

Welcome to the PhilMusic mailing list! Who's on this list? Anyone and everyone interested in discussions about Philippine-based music, including musicians, music industry professionals, and fans.

While a Usenet newsgroup exists (rec.music.filipino) our observation is that Usenet participation is not as widespread in the Philippines as e-mail for various reasons, possibly due to lack of propagation via the various local ISPs. As such, discussions in rec.music.filipino have tended to be sparse and centered on discussions from participants from outside the Philippines.

The PhilMusic mailing list, founded in July 1996, seeks to correct the situation by promoting more Philippine-based message traffic through a more readily accessible medium (e-mail) and attempts to bring in more participants from the Philippine music scene - musicians and recording artists, music journalists, club owners, artist managers and booking agents, radio professionals, recording engineers, record company A&R, as well as providing Philippine music enthusiasts with an interactive link to the music industry.
