This group is for academics, mental health professionals, and anyone with some familiarity of the literature of philosophy of psychiatry . We will discuss books and journal articles.
The aim of this group is to enable researchers with shared interest in philosophy of psychiatry to read and discuss together recent literature in the field. Often a specific period of time will be devoted to an article or book, and a particular individual may volunteer to lead discussion for that period of time.
Discussion should be carefully considered and polite. The group should not be dominated by a few individuals. If any member finds that he or she is writing many long e-mails to which only one or two people are responding, then that member should take a break and leave a space for others to contribute.
Membership of the group is by the approval of Christian Perring. If you want to join the group, then e-mail me explaining your interest and qualifications. My e-mail address is cperring@yahoo.com .
In August 2001, we will start to discuss Philosophy, Psychiatry and Psychopathy: Personal Identity in Mental Disorder, edited by Christopher Heginbotham, Ashgate 2000. This is also available at BN.com, Amazon.co.uk, BOL.com, or direct from the publisher.
