FYI-PGCPS Board Meeting/Action Update
Yesterday, February 26, 2009 starting at 2 PM and ending around 10 PM, I witness what may have been the longest series of Board Meeting agendas for of several major issues of importance to PGCPS and much of the county community. (See below for links and excerpts of the agenda)
Also, since there appears to be some communication problems related to the announcement of PGCPS meetings, hearings, etc.
- Board of Education Calendar
- Current Status
- Education Insight
- PGCPS News and Press Releases
- School Meals Menus
(Notification will send in user language)
Unfortunately, it appears that many of the important presentation and/or action documents considered by the board are not currently posted on the Board Doc web page as indicated by some board members or staff, nor were many of them available to the public or staff in attendance during this meeting. Therefore, persons interested in such documentation may have to contact the appropriate administration and/or board office to request such information.
Among the major issues on the agenda included:
- Consideration and action on about 20 pending bills being considered by the General Assembly (See Legislative Agenda for details). Also note that the Prince George's Delegation is holding a public hearing on some of these bills this Saturday at Renee Auditorium in the Community College)
-
more revisions to the FY 10 Operating Budget and the approval of the requested budget - This may include additional cuts or additions to staff, services and/or programs in the original proposed budget. It must be submitted to the County Executive before March 1. He will then present his proposed budget to the County Council for their review, amendments and approval. (See County Government web site, for details on their role with the budget -
http://www.co.pg.md.us/
- Another update review of proposed school boundaries (new document not yet available online)
- Several items listed as emergency action items including using the PGCPS Foundation budget to approve a $100,000 plus mentor program ( No details on this issue appears to be posted), but folks that are not aware of the Foundation may to contact the board or administration for details on its existence, mission and use.
- It also appears the board has approved and/or signed several recent Memorandum's of Understanding and/or Contracts, that the public may be interested in, but I cannot yet provide details.
Hopefully, the board and administration as applicable will notify and post updated, detail documentation on all of the issues considered yesterday by the board in a timely manner, so parents, community and/or staff can have transparent access to them soon if we are to be included effectively as part of the decision-making process.
