There was an article in the Indie this morning about a guestbook from a
place called Chez Victor that was quite popular in the 60's that has Pete &
Dud's signature and quippy messages. I'll try to find a link...

You all still alive?

Mobes,
Thanks for that. I do miss the Indy. Even though it went downhill about 10
years ago, it's a lot better than the U.S. broadsheets.

I'm still alive although, as we've got a six-week-old baby, I'm so tired

I don't suppose anyone would happen to have a lovely copy of 'One foot In
The Algarve,' featuring a certain Mr. Cook would they? Any format would be
fine.

For this I would be as grateful as a Giraffe upon receiving the freedom of
the city of Manchester.

Hello boys and girls,

Peter Gordon, or Clinty as was, just writing to let you know that
Issue 4 of Kettering, the magazine of elderly British comedy, is out,
including my review of the forthcoming Bedazzled DVD and the Holy
Dragger's look back at the first Amnesty Gala.

There's also gubbins a-plenty about Marty Feldman, Milligan, Myles
Rudge, Little & Large, Peter Butterworth and more.

And all for a pathetic three pounds plus p&p. How can you say no?

You can buy it via PayPal at our site -
www.bodnotbod.org.uk/kettering
- or write to me directly at ketteringmag@...

Good kettering to you all.

I'm reading 'I Didn't Get Where I Am Today', the autobiography of
David Nobbs at the moment, and just came across this:

When I met Peter Cook for the first time a few years later, at the
Establishment Club in Soho, he astonished me by saying that I had
been his hero at Cambridge. This from my hero! I thought him the
funniest man alive. I still would, if only he were still alive.
When I was on top form, with the wind behind me and a few drinks
inside me, among people I knew well, I could be very funny for whole
minutes on end. Peter could be funny for hours on end, in any place
at any time, with anyone whether drunk, stoned or sober.
Still, he was younger than I, and maybe he was impressionable.

The book's well worth a read, by the way (at least what I've read so
far.)

I just want to say some mushy American-sounding things.I hope it will
not be too groan-inducing.

I have always had a deep love for Britain and her people and culture
(thus my being a member here) and my heart was truly wrenched when I
heard the news this morning. Something along similar lines, you may
recall, was done to my city a few years ago.

I know from history, and my many visits UK-side, that you guys are
some
tough MO-FOs. Hitler couldn't take London, and neither can some
miserable bastard who likes to murder innocent people on subway
trains.

Just know that those affected (and from my vivid memory of 2001, I
know
that's everybody) have my sincerest sympathies, and that the people
of
London have many great friends over here.

Sorry for any touchy-feely Oprah-ness,
Joe

That goes for me too. What he said. I have many
friends who live and work in London so it's been a bit
of a day, e-mails and phone calls and waiting,
waiting. So far no immediate friends wounded or
killed, but I feel hurt anyway.

Well thank you. Things are pretty much back to normal now (i.e. the
tube's not working in the middle of town), but it's all a bit surreal.

Terrorists take note: If you really want to screw up the transport
system in London, don't use bombs - just sling a couple of bags of wet
leaves on the track. Works a treat.

I know from history, and my many visits UK-side, that you guys are some
tough MO-FOs. Hitler couldn't take London, and neither can some
miserable bastard who likes to murder innocent people on subway trains.

Just know that those affected (and from my vivid memory of 2001, I know
that's everybody) have my sincerest sympathies, and that the people of
London have many great friends over here.

Sorry for any touchy-feely Oprah-ness,
Joe

Got rehearsals this weekend, so am off to Paddington
this evening. Am slightly more worried about getting
cross-examined for carrying a big fuck-off bag on the
District Line than anything else. And I hate Allah,
myself. Perhaps if I were to sing hymns as I travel
people might leave me alone.

Anyway, there's 'comedy' to prepare, so off I go.

You all seemed the most likely people, but did anybody catch the Radio 2
documentary on him? Can I have a copy if anyone has it?

Cheers

Hi Mobes,

Did you have any joy with this? It's just turned up on UKnova.com. I can send
you the torrent if you
want.

I'm after that one as well.
I'll let you know if I chance upon it.
I also would be as grateful as a Dalek upon recieving a gift stair-lift.

I don't suppose anyone would happen to have a lovely copy of 'One foot In

fine.

For this I would be as grateful as a Giraffe upon receiving the freedom of

Yeah, they've conquered that particular problem. They can now sort of
hover/fly up them.

No one is safe.
