elcome to the club Ralf.

I trust everyone
had a good holiday season. Hopefuly the new year will
bring more Perry Rhodan to America. Untill then I'll
have to make due with trying to find all the old
books.
s you might have realised, there is a new member
in the club. I'm from the mother country of Perry
Rhodan, like jmhoraze, but I'm still here (yet, that
might change some time in the future). By the way, I
heard from the club because of the English PROC
mailinglist!
ello Everyone aand merry Christmas. I'm in
Texaas Visiting my family for the holiday. While here I
checked out a local used book store and found 25 issues
of the original english run of PR. Now I have
something to keep me occupied until the current series
starts again. Woo Hoo!
ctually -- as far I know -- hills and valley
even did exist before Highway 49 was built to
accommodate the gold trecks during rush hour. I believe there
had been *more* hills around in earlier days. Now
those are carried by Brigit Nielson, Dolly Parton,
etc.

;-) jm

P.S.: With all the freezing, I
notice that some of these hills are a bit higher than
usual...
ell, folks we are tied for 31st most popular
club in our category.

I haven't actually read
the PR issues 1802 and 1803 yet. I'm partway through
1802. But now Im taking my time, because when I'm
through that could be it for a while.

I guess I'm
going to have to learn to read German.
es, I must have joined later. I didn't realize
it was the same. I joined just a day or two before I
started this Club.

I do feel, however, that as a
subscriber to the magazine, I should have got some sort of
notice in the mail that it was going on hold. I'd just
been waiting and waiting for the next issue, and the
official website had nothing about it.

(Davor wohnte ich in Nämberch.)

I am reading PR
since... well, I really started with PR (counting
subscription) with #500 (first edition) and #200 (second
edition). My very first PR was #43 -- after reading
Landser, Western, Krimi Hefte, various SciFi stories, also
the "serials" Rex Corda, Ren Dhark, etc. Perry Rhodan
really got me hooked. Due to the variety of adventures,
and the story line which was not just a simple "hero
lands in trap -- friends try to rescue him got
themselves into trouble -- hero frees 'm all and got admired
by some blonde" stereotype.

I got involved in
various fan clubs 1988 (PRBCBS, RDC, SFCD there editor
for the PERRY RHODAN section of the Andromeda
Nachrichten magazine, ACD, SFCU, and later the PRFZ where I
was one of the foundng members and editor in chief
for the very first issues -- until I moved to San
Jose).

Now more a lazy guy, drinking beer, trying to

live in the province of Quebec, Canada.

I've
read my first PR at... 16 or 17, in Cegep (college),
in French. I must have read the first two cycles, at
least, with the college library collection of the
series.

Later, by an article from Jean-Michel
Archaimbault in L'Annonce-Bouquins, I discovered what really
was the PR series in Germany. What a frustration to
see how little I knew of PR (by the French edition)
comparing with the German readers!

Later still, I
discovered the first US run, and bought those stories
skipped by the French edition.

Glad to be among
you,

Christian
t doesn't seem to be too difficult to start a
club if the toppic is PR. Science Fiction is big on
the net, so is collecting. There are also thousand
and thousands of PR museums in the world (one in my
house in San Francisco, well, it's not really my
house...)
I started to read PR in 1976. I took some breaks
from it, so there are still round about 1000 issues I
have to read. Some say PR fans have no life, want to
join that club...?
stefan
he message you quoted from TerraCom was

it will all depend on his sponsors.

*jm*
just read this from Terracom

+++Vector
Enterprises Suspends U.S. Edition of Perry Rhodan+++

In a pair of messages to the English-language Perry
Rhodan listserv in October, John Foyt
explained that
U.S. edition of the Perry Rhodan series would not be
continued in the magazine
format. John's messages are
reproduced below. Fan reactions and further discussion on
this
matter can be found in this issue's
ContraComputer.

10/15/1998

Hello Group,

I am
afraid I must report some bad news. Circulation of the
magazine has been lower than
anticipated, and my
investor is concerned. For the moment we are not going to
proceed with
publishing the magazine. I had hoped
to
arrange a publishing partner in time to put out
1804 on schedule, but this will not happen.

But, this does not at all mean that the Rhodan English
effort is over! At the very least, we have
enough
translated material to provide some interesting items to
subscribers. More on that later
once a few decisions are
made.

The search for a publishing partner
continues, and I have some interesting meetings coming up.
We may convert to books; or may continue with the
magazine. I have been delaying a while,
hoping to have
a partner in pocket before making this
announcement. But even though we don't
have one yet,
doesn't mean we won't - just that it may take some
time.

Concerning Posbi Invasion: This will be our first
priority now. I hope to have this out by the end
of
the year.

Stick with me, guys! The ocean is
getting rough but the ship is sound.

Best
regards,
John Foyt

10/21/1998

Hello
group,

It's amazing how fast news travels, and how
rumors are generated from it. By now I've heard
from
all over the world that Perry Rhodan is dead in the
US/Canada, that there will be no further
effort to bring
PR to the English
language, and so on. All this
seems to come from a friendly announcement that I made
to the
mailing list that the magazine was going
on hiatus.

So, for the avoidance of doubt
and to kill rumors: PUBLICATION OF PERRY RHODAN
IN
ENGLISH IS ONLY SUSPENDED. We will be back. The
magazine format was an experiment,
and it was only the
format that failed, NOT the entire project. Release of
PR in book form is very
much a viable
possibility, one which we have been looking at while also
doing the magazine. In
fact, the decision to kill
the magazine was made partly so that Vector can focus
its efforts on
other distribution
methods.

I also have a favor to ask: Would the people who
translated my announcement into German or
otherwise
repeated the prior announcement to PR fans in other
countries to please also send on
this information as
well. I would like everyone to know that PR English is
alive and well, and is
only going through a
temporary suspension.
ello, I have learnt in the Pr mail list the
existence of this club, so I came to see what it's like. I
didn't know the Yahoo clubs. I have been a PR fan for
years. I have almost all of the books, most in german,
some in english and a lot in french (I am french).
ow, more new members. Looks like I finaly
started a club thats taking off. Eveyone please feel free
to use the invite option to the left there under the
Member Tools. Tell all your friends.

So, I only
discovered Perry Rhodan earlier this year when the english
translation of #1800 was on the stands. I saw this little
magazine with a funny name that claimed to be "The World's
Greatest Space Adventure Series!" Well, how the hell could
that be if I'd never even heard of it? (It turns out
not everything centers around America.) But it had a
spaceship on the cover so I picked it up to take a
look.

When I read what it was about and how long it had been
going on, I was facinated. It amazed me that this thing
had come out weekly for 35 years. So I bought it. I
that first issue alone some 66 years past. That was
nothing it turned out. The next issue covered MILLIONS of
years! The sheer scope of the thin blows me
away.

I subscribed almost imediately after buying #1800.
It seemed like the kind of thing I'd better be sure
not to miss an issue of. I also bought the calendar
and video tape (which, I'm sorry to say I fully
expect to see on Mystery Science Theatre 3000 someday.)
I've also managed to find some old issues from the
original American run.

So that's my Perry Rhodan
story. Tell us yours.
ello fellow members;

well I've been a fan
for almost 16 years. I consider myself to be a BIG
fan, I don't take a subscription because that would
mean that I'd receive my PRs two days after the
release in the shops.

Having +- 800 PRs, I always
have something to read :-)

Greetings,
Ecco.
ell, I see our membership is steadily growing,
but we havn't heard from some of you yet. So why
doesn't everyone tell us how long they've been reading
PR, what they like about it, and any personal info
you might like to add.
ou've probably all heard this by now so I'll
just post a short quote.

PERRY RHODAN Writer

the sudden and
unexpected loss of Cologne-based
writer Wolfpeter Ritter, who had written
numerous

succumbed to the aftermath of a
heart attack, shortly

ell thanks for joining anyway, Hal.

I've
just recently discovered Perry with the begining of
the new American magazine. I've managed to find some
of the old "Bookzines" in the second hand stores,
but haven't had the chance to read them yet.
'm an Austrian reader of Perry Rhodan. Sorrily I'm not online very often. But I
joined anyway - to show my sympathy for this project! Good luck to all
participating!
