Description

Pericope is a list primarily for LCMS pastors for the intention of discussing topics related to the lessons for the coming Sunday, sermons, and other worship related material. While anyone is welcome to join and participate, please know that this list is moderated by LCMS Lutherans for Lutheran pastors and other interested persons, and therefore, the approach is from a decidedly Lutheran perspective.

Special note to Vicars: While vicars are welcome here, please understand that the vicarage is a time you are learning how to do sermon development yourself. As long as your Bishop understands you are a member of the group, and you do the bulk of the work of sermon preparation yourself, you may participate in the group. Just don't expect other pastors to do your work for you, nor take their work as your own.

A related group, LCMS-Issues is for general discussions on issues in the LCMS. Please only post topics involving sermon development to the pericope list.

A related website, lcmssermons.com, allows postings of sermons for public viewing. Please consider posting your sermons there.

The rubrics vary.  I generally follow the Weedon rubric which says that special feast days overrule green Sundays, so I'll probably be observing the nativity

Re: Ezekiel 37:7-8
Vicar, I don't think you're too far off.  They are without hope because they are in despair.  The work of the Law apart from the Gospel always bears one of
