I highly recommend viewing "A Working Mom" - a film about a Mother in Bolivia
who works very hard in Israel to support her children back home. It is free and
online at snagfilms. At http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/a_working_mom/
(only playable in the USA currently)
[cid:image001.jpg@...]

Release Year: 2008; Duration: 78 min; Related:
International<http://www.snagfilms.com/films/browse/category/international/>,
Life &
Culture<http://www.snagfilms.com/films/browse/category/life_and_culture/>,

Issues<http://www.snagfilms.com/films/browse/category/womens_issues/>,
ITVS<http://www.snagfilms.com/films/browse/category/itvs/>; A divorced mother
of two returns to her home and children in Bolivia after 15 years of struggling
for a better life in Israel, only to find her family members have become
strangers. A WORKING MOM is a story that demonstrates the extremes that
individuals will go to in order to save their families--sometimes saving and
losing them in the same act.

About snagfilms says: For non-US visitors: Currently, our 3rd-party video
platform only permits us to display video in the US. We expect to be able to
stream internationally in early 2009. SnagFilms is committed to finding the
world's most compelling documentaries, whether from established heavyweights or
first-time filmmakers, and making them available to the wide audience these
titles deserve. SnagFilms.com is a website where you can watch full-length
documentary films for free, but we're also a platform that lets you "snag" a
film and put it anywhere on the web. With a library of over 550 films, and
rapidly growing, you're bound to find films that resonate with your interests.
We make it easy for you to find a film that shines a light on a cause you care
about. You can then open a virtual movie theater on any web site, so any one can
watch your favorite SnagFilms for free. SnagFilms can be summed up in four
words: Find. Watch. Snag. Support. Find. Whether using our custom search tools,
browsing by topic, or tuning into one of the great channels provided by our
partners, with a few clicks you'll be able to find what you're looking for.
Watch. By streaming films worldwide, on-demand, 24x7 and with no software
installation or downloading required, we have radically expanded the audience
for documentary films. All you need is a decent broadband connection. Just click
play, go full-screen, and lean back and enjoy our films. Snag. Widgets let you
take your favorite SnagFilms with you wherever you like to go online. Open a
virtual movie theater right in your webpage, blog, Facebook or MySpace page, or
just about any other place online you can think of. Support. At their best,
documentaries don't merely entertain us, they engage and inspire us to action.
We provide a link for you to a charity related to the topic of each film (many
of them selected by the filmmaker) so you can get involved, immediately. And
just by embedding our widgets, you've donated your pixels and helped support
independent film.

2009 media kit. If you're a filmmaker, producer, or a distributor with
documentaries in need of distribution, please reach out to

Argh! The period at the end of the sentence with the link made the link not
work. Either delete the last period or use this link:

Hello all!
I just learned today about the Feinstein March/April 2009 $1 Million Challenge,
which matches donors' giving up to $1 million. Rather than a $1:$1 match, Mr.
Feinstein prorates the $1 million out in proportion to each participating agency
according to how much money they raised in March and April for the challenge.
Please see
http://www.feinsteinfoundation.org/Press%20Releases/2009%20Spring%20Campaign.pdf\
. I have it on good authority that this challenge is legit.

I called the phone number listed at that link and spoke with Ed, who confirmed
that a U.S. 501 c 3 can raise funds to spent entirely in Guatemala on hunger
issues and be eligible for the match. Teresa in Xela has an ongoing need for
nutritional supplements for the children in the program.

PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A GIFT BEFORE THE END OF APRIL SO THAT WE CAN LEVERAGE
YOUR DOLLARS TO DO MORE WITH THEM.

You can donate at http://www.lapedreraschoolproject.com/donate.html.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
A little more about the challenge and Alan Shawn Feinstein:

WHATEVER YOU DONATE TO THIS AGENCY,
I WILL ADD MONEY TO IT. THE MORE
YOU GIVE, THE MORE OF MY $1 MILLION
THEY'LL GET—THANKS TO YOU!

Why am I doing this? Because I believe each of us was put here on earth to do
what we can to help those in need. You got this letter because we feel that YOU
believe that, too.

This has become the greatest grass roots campaign ever to fight hunger in our
country. Your donation makes you a partner in it with me! My money started this
campaign but it is YOU who will help decide how many needy people in your city
or town will be fed this year. All that will matter to us someday is what we did
while we were here to help those who needed us.

We Are Needed Now!

Please give whatever you can - I will gladly add some of my money to yours.

(My $1 million will be divided in full proportionately among
the agencies receiving donations toward my offer.)

Thank you for sharing my heart, and the hope that—someday—no one will ever go
hungry.

Prize"

Your input is needed.

The Purpose Prize is an award given to older Americans who show
leadership in changing the world around them for the better. You can
help by going to the website and offering your support.

There is already a nomination on file for Wayne, but the nomination
needs many supporters. To offer support, go to this link:
http://www.purposeprize.org/nominate/nomination_begin.cfm

Enter Wayne's info:
Wayne Hess
Zip code: 97005
Email address: WAYBARHESS@...<mailto:WAYBARHESS%40aol.com>

When you enter Wayne's information, you are simply asked for your
email address and for a brief comment. If you would like some bio
info on Wayne, go to
http://www.lapedreraschoolproject.com/story.html

The prizes are substantial and could really be a boost to Wayne's (and
our) vision for education in Guatemala.

Thanks
David

Greetings Friends of La Pedrera,

My name is Wayne Hess and I am the founder and director of the La
Pedrera School Project, a US tax exempt organization dedicated to
furthering the goals of "Proyecto La Pedrera" in Guatemala. As an
IRS recognized 501(c) (3) organization, contributions to the project are
now tax deductible. You can read about the activities of the Project at
http://lapedreraschoolproject.com

The women's sewing cooperative is no longer active and will only
become active someone volunteers to be an on site director and can
present a plan for success.

This relatively inactive, group formerly owned by Mike Baird, has been
turned over to the La Pedrera School Project and will be used to keep
you informed of the progress of the group and to expand the support base
for the group.

The goal of this message is to acquaint you with the changes to the
"Proyecto" and to introduce you to the new US (Project.) and to
determine how many of you want to receive updates and might be willing
to be an active participant.

If you would like to respond directly, I can be reached at 5316 SW

you

Great photos and story David Thomas! That adds a lot to the sense of community.
And, I remember the lovely and efficient Teresa De Leon from my travels down
there in 1996, 1997, and 2001- ref. http://mikebaird.com/ana/

I just posted a small photo album to the Yahoo La Pedrera Group site:

http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/pedrera/photos

This Friday a group of about 20 students from the project boarded a
bus from Casa Xelaju to visit senior citizens at the "Hogar de
Ancianitos de Maria Luisa de Marilar". They performed modern and
traditional dances, put on a play, and then invited audience members
out on the floor to dance. Then they served a delicious home-made
pastel (cake) with tea. It was topped of by beautiful speeches from
both sides expressing gratitude and joy at being able to be together
for a short time.

I was really impressed by the good behavior of the kids, their
gracious attitude and the fact that the Project Director, Teresa De
Leon is doing such marvelous work with this group of kids, teaching
them positive values, combining aspects of traditional Mayan heritage

Enjoy the photos.
