Description
La Pedrera is an impoverished community in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. "Proyecto" La Pedrera is a Guatemalan non-profit organization dedicated to helping the citizens and especially the children of this community. "Padrinos and Madrinas," are "Godfathers and Godmothers" financial sponsors of individual children. This forum is for the sponsors and friends of La Pedrera. In 2008 The La Pedrera School Project a US non-profit organization, dedicated to the assistance of the La Pedrera community, received tax exempt status and is qualified as a 501(c)(3) organization. As such, contributions to the project are tax deductible. All proceeds raised by the La Pedrera School Project go directly to the (Proyecto) in Guatemala. Our project, started out of and supported by Casa Xelaju (an intensive language school in the highlands of Guatemala), consists of two programs:
1) Educational Reinforcement Classes; serving poor children
2) A sponsorship program; serving poor children who otherwise cannot afford to attend public schools in Guatemala
Educational Reinforcement Classes are held every day, Monday through Friday. Children attend from 3:30-6:00. Those who have sponsors go to school in the mornings, those who do not depend on these classes for their total education.
