Upcoming calendar upgrade: Yahoo! Groups calendars are being upgraded to a much improved version. You may not have access to the calendar (for up to 24 hours) when this group is upgraded. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.
Description
The Nashville Peace Coalition is working for peace in our hearts, in our communities, and in our world. We work nonviolently in alliance with like-minded people and organizations.
The Peace Coalition started after 9/11/2001. Since then our work has evolved into a coalition working to end the military-industrial complex and all forms of injustice and violence. We interpret the word "violence" broadly, as Gandhi did -- for instance, sweatshops exploit the desperation of the poor, and so it is questionable whether they really work there "voluntarily"; that exploitation is a type of violence.
We are a project of the Nashville Peace and Justice Center.
You are invited to participate in this listserve, or attend our in-person meetings, or both. Our meetings are on Wednesdays, 5:30-7pm in the basement of the Friends Meeting House, 530 26th Ave. N. At a typical meeting, attendance is 5 to 10 people. Our meetings are fairly informal, but we try to remember not to interrupt or to talk for too long, so everyone gets a turn to speak.
We have a web page at www.NashvillePeaceCoalition.com, Also, we encourage you to look at www.NashvilleProgressiveCalendar.com. That calendar lists not only our own activities, but also the activities of many other progressive groups in Nashville; we invite others to submit events for that calendar.
Please note - this listserve's email messages are publicly viewable, not just to members, but to everyone; that option was chosen intentionally by this group. New members' messages will be moderated (i.e., delayed for approval) until we're sure you're not a spammer; after that you'll be switched to unmoderated status.
