Thank you for your interest in the Portland Chapter of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship. We meet at least 6 times a year, usually every other month beginning in January.
Core Focuses
*To give voice to an Engaged Buddhist presence in Portland
*To stimulate and support our understanding of peace matters through sharing of knowledge, clarifying of feelings and positions in a group setting, and meditation
*To create a space in our gatherings for collaboration among Buddhists with similar goals in Engaged Buddhism; these spaces could give birth, could inform, could effect clarity, could deliberate strategies
*To serve as a conduit, or clearinghouse, for the natural wish of groups and individuals to become more engaged in social action
*To plan or participate in events and to act with the
Buddhist Peace Fellowship mission statement as our guide
Activities of Note:
o Sponsor of Portland's annual Buddhist Festival in the Park
o Presence in peace rallies, often offering meditation vigil space
o Past participation in the annual 24 Hour Chant for Peace sponsored by Great Vow Monastery
o Support of citizen lobbyists who have occupied the offices of our governmental representatives in the effort to be heard
o Showings of peace and justice related videos
o Collaborative events with like-minded groups
BPF Portland welcomes all to our various activities. We do not seek membership dues, and we recommend people join BPF. If you appreciate what we do, and wish to donate money specifically for our chapter's activities, we thank you.
Portland BPF became a chapter in March 2002.
