The purpose of this listserv is to provide progressive-minded Democrats of New York's 20th Congressional District a forum to exchange information and advocacy strategies related to New York State and Federal political issues. We have organized ourselves as a local chapter of Progressive Democrats of America www.pdamerica.org and www.pdanewyork.org for the 20th Congressional District. Broadly stated, PDA's goals are to try to create a more progressive Democratic party working from the inside by supporting progressive (i.e. liberal) candidates and causes at the local, state and federal level. PDA also works with peace and social justice groups outside the Democratic party to bring about such change. PDA is organized by Congressional District and there are chapters in states all over the country. Since its founding in 2004, it has seen great growth. For more about PDA's achievements, see

Generally, subscribers to this list should be registered Democrats residing in the 20th Congressional District who support the purpose of this listserv as expressed above. Greens, independents and those affiliated with other political parties who share our progressive goals are welcome provided they understand and respect the purpose of this list as such.
