Dear Nitinn,
Everyone has been blessed with different approaches to grasping knowledge. Let me inform you that this is exactly what I did to get PMP certified - self reading, which includes
(a) going through the PMBOK (3rd edition, if you plan to write the exam before 30th June, otherwise 4th edition),
(b) going through a book like Rita Mulcahy's, and
(c) practising good quality questions, like the ones that you may find at www.passPM.com (I find this to be the best among the online providers)
The most important driver of an early certification is a firm commitment, continuous studies (which does need a lot of your time), and simultaneous practice with Q&A that clarify minute differences between terminologies and provide in-depth and real-world knowledge of the areas that are more prominent in the exam.
If I could pass the exam using the methodology suggested by you, why can't you!!

Hi,

Would like to know from all, whether one can study @ home and go through PMBOK 3 and can still clear the certification?

Please share your experience!
