This yahoo group is a forum to follow the progress and method of how I am "Building a Proto 48 layout"
We will follow this from planning, development, design, construction, and hopefully through to finishing!

The layout will be free-lance set in the late 50's in Chicago on IHB.

Anyone that is interested in fine scale modeling is welcome to join and comment, post photos, ask and or answer questions.

Proto48 was created to accurately model AAR prototype wheel contours and track gauge. It is different than traditional O gauge. P48 uses 56.5" as the standard for track and wheel gauge unlike the NMRA standard of 60" between the rails. Proto48 modelers strive for realism in the total model with accurate details, paint and lettering on their equipment.
Proto 48 is a subset of O scale (1:48 scale). The scale has several names that are currently in use or have been used in the past:
