We bought Jeld-Wenn Vinyl clad double-pane, single hung windows. I THINK they
have an argon gas layer between the panes, to help with energy efficiency.
They're tinted for summertime cooling & they're right up there for efficiency.
These windows are easy to clean. No chemicals...just vinegar & water, and the
lower window does tilt out to make cleaning even easier.
Don't remember what their EER is. Each of our 10 windows got us $25 rebates
from Alliant Energy, our utility provider, which made their final cost about $55
each for the 30" X 42" windows, original cost at Menards - $80 each. That's
something to think about while you're building or remodeling. Most energy
companies offer all kinds of monetary rebates for your new windows, doors,
central air & heating & appliances. You just have to save your receipts and
send in the paperwork.
The only thing I may have done differently would have been to buy the double
hungs instead of the single hungs. I miss not being able to lower the top half
of the window for added air circulation.
Good Luck!
