This is the list for the Old West Durham Neighborhood Association (OWDNA) list.
Discussions here will cover upcoming events and issues affecting the residents of our neighborhood.
Previously known as the settlement of Pinhook (already established by 1848), Old West Durham is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Durham, NC. The construction of the Erwin Cotton Mill in 1892 transformed the "rough and roaring" village into the quiet, tree-lined mill town we see today.
Old West Durham is enjoying a steadfast renaissance. Several older homes are being renovated and houses that do go on the market are quickly sold. The Triangle's new regional rail line will include a station in the neighborhood -- establishing a rapid link from our old mill village to the area's employment centers. Folks have discovered the benefits of living in a neighborhood where you actually know your neighbors, where you can visit with friends on the porch, or stroll over to Ninth Street for a slow cup of coffee.
