This group is opposed to the development proposed by Orocco Pier Hotel in South Queensferry (Edinburgh Council Planning Ref: 06/03332/FUL). We are calling on the council to reverse its decision because of serious errors and mistakes in the planning process. The plans contravene the council's own Development Plan (Conservation Appraisal 2001), which discourages 'backland development' on the seashore; there is complete confusion over the traffic plan; the hotel would spoil the town's only sandy beach and remove prescriptive rights of access for recreation, plus a public right of way; the plans are inappropriate in scale and character; the planners failed to even consider the blocking of seafront public views along the beach; the extension on to a sandy beach spoils habitat for birds and sea creatures - yet the local councillor claimed that the community backed the plan.
