Hello,
The Oregonian had an editor named Scott, There is a statue of him in Mt.
Tabor Park I believe he is pointing towards downtown.
Sorry I can't always get the clue first this year. But this board will work
miracles if everyone does there part. We will all be there when the
medallion is found anyway so let's have fun playing the game. Share what you
know and if you have the clue and it isn't posted here yet by all means post
it. I will give a free t-shirt to the single person who posts the clue here
first the most number of times. The clue must be posted as it is written in
the paper, paying close attention to Capitolization, spelling and
puncuation.
Treasure Hunt central is making arrangements to join in the Starlight Parade
on Sat. June 3, if you are willing to volunteer or March with us in the
parade, make some excitement!!!! Post your yeas to the group. More details
later.

Clue # 2

The man could edit
But take Scott's direction
And the prized medallion
Will elude your detection.

Harvey Scott was the 1st editor of the Oregonian. His statue on top
of
Mt. Tabor is pointing West or Southwest. He is facing SE, probably
towards Mt. Scott which was named after him.

Greg B., it was nice meeting you.

--- #1 is never a real clue, it's always an introduction. I think you
can't really starting looking until #6 or #7, the early clues are too
vague. Like last year, the town where the treasure was hidden was on
an old indian trail?????? Doesn't that include about 95% of the areas
towns?

#2 is easy for me, but I won't give it away...I say be patient.

Hopefully clue #2 will be more than an introduction...where is
everyone?? Come on guys, dont be shy....work together and find this
thing!! Dont forget when you actually get to hunt..try not to ruin
any shrubs and things we want to leave the places in the same shape
or better than when we got there!! make a list of things to pack in
the car like maps, rain gear, food, big walking stick, sun screen,
gardening gloves, (barkdust and thorns!)Good luck hunting this year!

I found out about this forum just after last years medalian

(some years more than casual).

Good luck to all!

The Sunday Oregonian dated the 8th stated that they will give clues
using some older information (i.e. the 150th anniversary of the
newspaper) and to be prepared to look way back in history. They also
said that in the Sunday papers they would re-print an old front page
and in the Wednesday edition there would be some more history
information

The medallion was 4 feet into the brush covered embankment???? Isn't that a
synonym for buried?? Of course it has to be hidden, but it is supposed to be
in view.
Last year it was found covered over with bramble bushes (buried) . This year
it was
basically hidden the same way. Why don't the Oregonian marketers that hide
the medallion just drive down the freeway and toss it out the window?
Apparently the Oregonian expects hunters to comb through brambles and wade
into brush to uncover it. We also came within a few feet of the treasure
last year and this year.
If you also feel the Oregonian seems to mislead hunters with the rules, as
well as terms of accepting the prize when won, send an Email concern to:
                                                   SteveH@...
Maybe next year the Treasure Hunt will resume its original integrity .
We"ll see.

Robert Iolasby a three year resident of NE Portland and an architect
with David Evans & Associates found the Oregonian Rose Festival
Medallion in McMinnville's City Park tonight at 6:00 PM on the dot.
He had been searching within the boundaries of the park along with his
father Robert Iolasby Sr. for approximately 7 hours today before his
lucky find. Today was also his first day in City Park. The 12th and final
clue which mentioned "service and love" led the Iolasby's to the tennis
courts in the north west corner of the park. The service line on the
park's most westerly court pointed directly to the location where Robert
found the medallion in a brush covered embankment on the South side.
This was the first year that the Iolasby's have participated in the hunt
and they had only registered one of the coupons. When Robert mentioned he
would be taking his wife Kimberly and his son Robert to Disney Land,
several other searchers in attendance who had registered with both coupons
volunteered to join them as the fourth party. The Iolasby's and two other
members
started following this years hunt on day one. The other two who's names were not
mentioned dropped out early leaving just the father and son team.

bushes. I thank everyone who made this bulletin board so much fun. I hope that
it continues to next year and good luck to everyone in 2000. Hope to see you

I was thinking and here is where I think that it might of been is Dayton City
Park where there is one piece of the old Fort Yamhill (Grand Ronde Blockhouse)
left as a memorial. It is near the city of McMinnville and it is never said
where exactly the Trent's that spotted the UFO lived in the McMinnville area.
Besides I was thinking that since "Wise direction is cast in wood" might mean
the wooden forts along the way because they were the original markers that you
were on the right path. Not sure, just an idea. Anyone else sure where it
might be?

I don't know where the medallion is hiding, but I know that some clues pointed
to Ft Vancouver and the airpark. I also thought about Sauvie's Island because
of the island part of it. I am still confused about the quintet part of this
thing. I also have thought about McMinnville because of the alien sighting, but
how do the other clues fit in? What about Jack name that spot. There is Jack
Merdock that the airpark is named after. That is why I thought there and also
barracks is a town of bachelors. I sure wish that I could find some better
research materials to find this thing. The clue that is also confusing is the
one two there but not, six oh on the dot. Some say some kind of marker or
clock. Also a people's name, does that refer to indians, because if it was a
person's name like Washington or Clark, then it would say person not people.
Well all I can say is that I have driven in circles with each clue. I wonder
what the purpose of this hunt is, is it so we can learn interesting Oregon
History that we never learned in school?

Frank Wortmann was a banker in McMinnville who displayed the ufo pictures at his

a good place to look.

We were in McMinnville today, and all of the parks withing a ten mile radius
were being search thoroughly. What is interesting is that a friend told me
there were hundreds of people today in Ft. Vancouver/Pearson Airpark area.
This guy is pretty clever!! To get so many people looking in different areas.

The McMinnville clincher for us we found in a book at the library. On May 11,
1950 there was a UFO sighting in McMinnville that made national news. Fits #8
pretty good, we think.

#9 is just really making us crazy, tho. Anyone have any ideas for that one.
We've though of mile post markers, and clocks, but where? we don't know. Or
maybe it is something just very clever.

I think I figured out # 10: It refers to Mickey and Minnie Mouse. On Sauvies
Island, there used to be a lake called Mouse Island Lake just off Rocky Point
Road......nothing there now, just farm land. I had to go back and find an old
map.....real old...something like 50-60 years ago. If you read the Oregon
Geographic Names Book, it references this old lake and said there used to be an
old island in the center that was populated with mice. The lake is long gone.
Anybody else come up with this?

I hear that people are searching around Layfayette and Mac (McMinnville) but the
clues keep putting me in the vincinity of Sauvies Island....just too many clues
point in that direction. I think there is something about the old Fort Williams
on the island, reference to the Indians buying Manhattan Island in the 1600s,
and Logie Trail Road. Maybe I'm missing something here. Anyone else working
from a different angle???? Share it! Thanks

Also, what other kinds of reference materials are you searchers using?
