My Father's birth certificate shows St Clares Park Sandymount in 1924 but I've had no luck in finding this location as it doesn't seem to be on any modern city map?

Can anyone please help?

Thank you

Steve, I dont think that name is as common as you think, (its not O'Reilly or Smith TG) were they in Ireland in 1911?, if so you may find them on the National Archives (nationalarchives.ie) Census, free to search, but do as John says, you will need a townland, which is a small collection of fields, unless they came from a town or a city, in which case you would need a street.  Best of luck.  Carmel

Steve,
Where in Ireland do you think they may have come.? If you don't know this, or have no idea, you will need to start from your parents and work backwards. Once you have some clues then others may be able to help you.
gunning, as you say is a common name, numerous in the area of Connacht, midland areas and North Munster.

Re Gunning
This name is a variant on Gunwin (which comes from Gundewin).   The loss of 'd' occurred by the 17th century (Jo Guninge 1674 Hearth Tax, Suffolk).
Notable Gunnings were:
Elizabeth, diuchess of Hamilton & Argyll (1734-1790)
Elizabeth, dtr of Susannah Mrs. Plunkett, novelist (1769-1823
Henry, senior esquire-bedell of Cambridge U. (1768-1823)
John, Master of the sSurgeons' Company, (?-1798)
Maria, Countess of Coventry (1733-1760)
Peter, Bishop of Ely (1614-1684)
Sir Robert, bart., Ambassador at St. Petersburg; (1731-1816)
Susannah (nee Minifie), novellist (1740-1800)`

Hope this helso,
David

The native Gunning is an anglicisation of O Conaing, a Dalcassian sept from Castlegunning (now Castleconnor).  They are now most numerous in Co. Offaly.

Of course there are also Gunnings of English descent in Ulster (see my previous).

Hello Steve,
Have you tried to do a search on www.genealogy.com? You could search under the Gunning name, or search under Ireland for it. It is a very helpful site, as this one is. Good luck!

Advise if you need more help.
