Hi folks, this is essentially the same bio I recently posted to the original On3
group:

I'm 59, live in San Juan Capistrano (where the swallows come
home), make my living as Document Control Manager for a small startup
medical device company. Married for 39 years, 5 grown kids and 8 grandkids.
Been a modeler since I could hold an X-Acto knife. started in HO with my
dad, who dabbled, moved into planes, slotcars, RC boats, in and out of HO,
discovered NG when I saw my first Gazette after a long layoff from the
hobby.

Modeled in HOn3 for a few years, until I realized I couldn't see the little
guys too clearly, and moved up to On3, which I dearly love. I scratchbuild
nearly everything, which means I progress rather slowly, but have a good
time. I have a small shelf layout over my workbench, which I plan to expand
around the walls of my workshop ( a 9' x 16' converted third stall of my
garage). I'm clearing out the clutter and working on a track plan as
we speak. Because of the small space, I'm modelling a small logging line,
feeding a tie and timber mill to support the mines in the area, and the
connecting railroads. My prototype favorite is the C&S in the '30s, with a
nod to the SPNG, closest to my home, and which I visit every year.

I've collected 11 of the Grandt Porter kits, Hubert helped me find some
motors, and I plan to write a new set of instructions and modifications for
the kits, which I call "The Porter Project".

I've an extensive collection of magazines, complete back to the late
forties, and a very large collection of narrow gauge books and publications.
My standing offer to the group is to photocopy any articles or plans, if
they can identify what they need. I'm also slowly creating my own database
index of all the magazines, using Microsoft Access. Enough for now, let's
hear from the others.

Schaumburg helped build my On3 Alpine Tunnel layout in NJ. He, Bob and Dennis
Love and Bob Robbins used to come over almost every Friday for about 3-4
months from January to April 1985 to sling hydrocal and decomposed granite
onto that RR. They even showed up when I was out of town on business. The
layout went from bare walls to hosting a Mid Atlantic NG meet in about 16
weeks. They were a great crew to work with.

Alright, I guess it's my turn. Deane Mellander--been in model railroading in
one way or another for about 50 of my 52 years (if you include some wooden
pull toys I had when I was REAL young). Got seriously into scale model
railroading in high school--began in HO, branched out into HOn3 after my first
visit to the EBT in 1962. Still have my Gem/Seiko Mikado that I paid $49.95
for. Messed around in N scale while I was in the Navy, then got the On3 bug.
Hlold NMRA MMR No. 68. Have an O/On3 layout started--patterned on the EBT in
style and operations, but connects with the WM instead of the Pennsy. Track
is about 75% done, wiring is well under way. As soon as I get one more local
panel wired in place, I can begin operations. No scenery yet--still need to
put in the central penninsula that will hold the upper n.g. yard and coal mine
branch.

Hello, fellow On3 modelers!!

My Name is Walter Lahmann, 56 yrs old, live in Northport, LI, NY. My dad was
an OScale std gauge modeler in the 40's and 50's, hence my interest in the
scal side of model trains. He had a small but fairly complete machine shop in
our basement, and taught me a lot. I built an HO layout with/for my two sons
in the late 70's, then dropped out until about 4 years ago. When I revisited
the hobby, I fell in love with Narrow Gauge. I went to the convention in
Durango in 96, and decided to get into On3. I have collected 7 brass
locomotives so far, and I'm always looking for good buys. My layout space is
in two adjacent rooms, 12' x 32' and around the perimeter of a 17' x 20' room.

I just attended the OScale convention in Mass, and decided to work in an
OScale Std Gauge interchange line to my layout plans. I will be starting
construction on the floor, cieling, walls, electrical, etc. this fall, after
the Colorado Springs convention.

I'll be glad to host a get together when the basic basement is usable.

John is converting everything he has as far as I know to "O" scale. DO you
know Bill Lieder? He lives in Bloomingdale, and has a cover painting for the
N.G. Gazetter a few years ago. He has a new "O" layout well under way. It
includes a scratch built turn table big enough for his Big Boy. He can run
about 85 car trains on the main in "O" . Quite impresive. Most or the better
half of his loco's are scratch built. Spent 14 years on one alone. Exceptional
Back Drop as he is also a artist painter as well.

Hello,
My name is Pat Hennebery and
Personal info... My interests are in narrow gauge of all types, but I
made a commitment to On3 after going to the Brass-Only show in New
Jersey a few months ago. I love to build structures but have little
time to spend doing it... for now. My interest in NG goes back about 18
yrs when I go back into the hobby and started to build some Hon3. Then
a few years ago I started looking at O-scale when my business, Valley
Model Trains, started to offer O-Scale building kits mail order. I
built a few buildings for store display and started thinking about a
small home layout. On3 was the logical choice and I look forwad to
build some of the rolling stock I had done years ago in HO.

business info...
Valley Model Trains is a trains-only hobby shop specialzing in the sale
of BIG-BUCK-BUILDINGS in HO and O Scale. We offer model building kits
for the beginner to the master craftsman, including stations and other
railroad structures, industrial buildings, businesses, and residental
buildings of all types. We do mail order worldwide using VISA,
MASTERCARD and DISCOVER/NOVUS cards. You can write to us, E-mail or
call for our price list-PLEASE SPECIFY SCALE-or send $3 for O catalog or
$5 for HO catalog. Or check out our ads in OSN, OGR, RMC and the NG&SL
Gazette.

VMT was started in 1982 as a part time endevour but within 6 months was
operating as a full time retail model train store. We have always had
special interests in STRUCTURES and have specialized in this part of the
hobby since our beginnings. We offer one of the most complete selections
of building kits in HO & O Scales in the country including easy to build
plastic models and the more difficult Craftsman Kits. In HO we offer and
extensive line of European Model Building Kits. In O we have a 5'x20'
HI-RAIL layout under construction showing layout construction, scenery
building and structure building. And kids of all ages love it.....
We may modify it to add some 2-rail but turning radius is a limitation..
Maybe I should rebuild it in On3..........!!

Thanks,
Pat

Mike I remember--hope you have a big basement in St Charles and can get a
layout under way. There are abunch of XXn3ers around here so we'll have to
focus on getting a meet over at your place to motivate the construction!
Are you coming over to Naperville tomorrow and Sunday at about 8:30AM to get
your photo op for the steam train to Galesburg?
NG meet at Al Kamm's on Sunday too. Too hot to work outside this weekend so
might as well.

My name is Randy Hees, I live in San Mateo CA, just south of San
Francisco.

My primary railroad interests are California and Western Narrow Gauge,
particularly the South Pacific Coast and the San Joaquin and Sierra
Nevada. I have a few On3 models, all based on California prototypes. I
’m a sucker for link and pin couplers. I also model the RGS in Hon3.
But most of my railroad efforts are at a local railroad museum, the
Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resources (SPCRR.) We
operate a 1.5 mile long horse drawn narrow gauge lines using horses to
pull the trains (we also have a 1923 plymouth and a 1939 whitcomb.)

Hi there,

OK, I'll try an introduction...

My name is Mike Boucher, I', 30 years old, live just outside of Boston, and
I'm a model railroader. Kinda sounds like the beginning of a 12 step
recovery meeting, but maybe because I need one...

I've got equipment in N, HO, O, On3, gauge 1, and 3.5" live steam (and a few
pieces in Nn3, HOn3, and On30 that sit on the shelf). Right now all I've
got is an N trak module in my apartment. My home layout, if I ever have a
home, will be an HO scale freelanced branch line of the B&M in the early 50s
(with some fudging of the scrap dates of steam power).

A few years ago, I visited the EBT, and immediately fell in love with the
place. HOn3 just didn't do it, but then I found On3, and the downward
spiral continued. I'm in an O scale club, and I'm designing some modules
with both standard gauge mainline and narrow gauge branchline to run my
stuff. I'm slowly getting more involved with Colorado narrow gauge, but the
EBT is still my favorite.

Well, that's it for now...
