Thanks Glenn.  I had heard that Athearn had arch bar trucks in O scale but could not find them on their web.

Which is why the KD On3 coupler should be used on SG equipment too -- it is a SG sized coupler from the late D&RGW NG era.

When Kadee was planning to make the On3 (#803/807) coupler I gave them several samples of what was already in use--Grandt, PSC, Back Shop, Kemtron--so one reason it is the size it is, is because that was the size of couplers in use at the time.  gj

Hi again, group,

First, thanks again for the replies about what's out there for switches.

Now I need a bunch of track. Anybody have any On3 code 83 flex track to sell...?

Guess I will finally be learning to hand lay track before this is over.

Thanks,

What I would really hope for is a 3/4 MCB-type coupler for On3, which seems to be the "standard" outside of Colorado, rather than a full-size coupler like the San Juan.

The 900- series Kadees are actually a Type E coupler scaled for G (1:22.5) and F (1:20.3) and look and operate quite good.  In my conversations with Sam Clarke it sounds like they may also do it in #1 (1:32) .  No word as to whether they might go this route with the O Scale couplers.  They might be treading in San Juan Car's turf if they try it in On3.  I gave Sam a pair of the San Juan couplers.  I've been trying to get Kadee to do an On3 pilot coupler and/or  a coupler with a "whisker" centering spring

Hi Brian,

Although I'd like to add to my collection being unemployed prevents me from
being able to help you out now. However, I have a number of On3 MMI locos all
made after the intial K-27 run. They all have 12V bulbs because of DCC related
requests according to Mark at PSC/MMI. What kind of bulbs were used on the
initial K-27 runs? 1.5V grain of wheat? I also second Robert's request for
resistor values as such should I ever get the chance to add one of these first
run K-27's to my fleet.

Thanx,

Dan

Hello,

You haven't heard much from me of late as I have been totally hunkered down
making a host of new goodies for the narrow gauge buff.

First is the new On30 Annual, which some of you have already received. Anyone
who pre-ordered, your Annual will ship by tomorrow. If you ordered after Nov 1st
your Annual will be shipped in the order your Annual will be shipped in the
order it was received, and will ship before XMas.

If you haven't ordered, or are looking for a gift for your railroading buddies,
I'd invite you to try our new on-line ordering system at
http://carstensbookstore.com

Powered by Yahoo, this shopping site is a great leap forward from our old one.
It is much easier to use and navigate, and you'll note that we carry hundreds of
books from other publishers, and now you can find them! It will also cut down
the time it takes between when you place the order and it gets shipped.

Do you Twitter? If so, you can follow my exploits at http://twitter.com/
Search for CLaneCarstens

Finally, the On30 and HOn3 Annuals have a combined Facebook page. I invite you
to check that out at:
www.facebook.com/pages/On30HOn3-Annuals/150054244329

That's all (whew!) for now...

I'm trying to get rid of the many wires that need to be connected between the
cab and the tender. As I don't need/want any sound, and as there is no tender
light on a 455 at any rate, I think it should be possible to eliminate that
whole set of wires. My model is of the first run with reversed polarity. So I
had to open the engine side anyway, because I want to change that.

So my question now is, I think I can connect the pickup wires from the drivers
(red and black) directly to the motor?

But can I also connect the lights directly? (It's OK if the headlight is on in
both directions.)

And from another post I just learned that it would be a smart move to add a
resistor to keep the bulbs from burning out. I have no experience with such
changes. So can someone please advise what kind of resistor I need. Thanks!

Hi -
When my kids were in Kindergarten I took in some G scale track and
Playmobil engine and a few cars and we made town out of cereal boxes and
the like - the track was laid point to point and so the train went from
A to B. You can have "industries" and show how a railroad carries
furniture or logs or apples from place to place. Simple and fun. Could
be any scale, use gons and flats to carry stuff.

Manipulative's. Hands on for that age group. Have them setup a Thomas track and 'play trains' at the end. Not sure if you could get a hold of enough stuff for each of the kids to do or take turns with. But sounds like a fun time for everyone. Enjoy.

Late chiming in but have you looked at Railway Engineering?

Steve does very nicely done and reliable custom work at a reasonable price. I've
used a number of his switches as had the narrow gauge modular group I'm no

Great guy, great mentor when it comes to teaching hand-laying track that works
beautifully.

Mike,
Go on the KISS princapal. Lots of simple color pictures and Kurts idea for the
steam w the pin wheel was a good one. The only other thing I might add if you
have access to one is a scale operating steam engine. I think Micro Mark had
one.
Good Luck
