Thanks and Kudos to the Omaha Chapter for having such a great
organization. I joined right after the Fremont Swap Meet at the
suggestion (insistence?) of Dave Fischer. While I don't own anything
as cool as the rest of y'all, I sure do enjoy the older bikes. The
oldest model I have currently is a 1969 FLH. But, as I learn more
about the older bikes, I hope to expand the number of scooters I
own.

Keep up the good work!

Hi oldskoolshovel and welcome. I love those early year shovelheads. Is your ’69 an original machine or a more custom version to go with your handle?

Thanks for the welcome Mark and Glide. I have two Shovels - a '69
that currently has custom paint on it, but all else is original. My b-
i-l is a custom painter and wanted a project. We did a tribute to
Vietnam vets that came out pretty nice. I still have the original
sheetmetal for it so once he's doing showing it off, it will go back
to more original condition. I also own a bobber using a '76 motor and
tranny.

I've met a few of the members - Randy, Zort and Gary and hope to meet
more of you this year.

Mark the Shark,

My son Mark Croft has a ridgid frame transmission main shaft, drive
gear and the collar that it needs. All 3 are like new. The main
shaft does not have a crack where the large woodruff key goes that so
may have. I've been out of town so sorry I did not get back to you.
His name and numbers are:
Mark Croft
1-402-738-9593 Lots of the time he is out side or on the basement
working in his shop so just keep trying as he is off on Sunday and
Monday morning. During the week he drives a semi at night and he
will answer his cell at 1-402-681-0898

A few of us are leaving my house at 1:00 this afternoon to go to Baxters Cycle.  Probably swing over to Art's swap meet at Atlantic, IA, also.  Back late afternoon, and of course all are welcome to ride along, or ride ahead, if you wish.

On Any Sunday Ride

The motorcycle movie, On Any Sunday, by Steve McQueen, was a great
film about the enjoyment of riding motorcycles, and spending time
with your friends. That's what you can do Sunday June 14, 2007. The
Meet time is 12:00PM, and will finish early in the afternoon.

We'll meet at Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs, IA at 12:00PM. There
is parking for trailers, and restroom facilities. Then, continue on
to Glenwood, IA where we'll take a break at the city park which has
plenty of room for parking, and restroom facilities. Next stop is
Treynor, IA at the Rose Restaurant and Tavern. The ride will end
where we started at Lake Manawa. This is a short ride and will not
involve all of your Sunday. Bring a friend and enjoy the ride.

Here are the directions to our meeting place at Lake Manawa in
Council Bluffs, IA (there are many was to Lake Manawa, but I will
list just one way so I don't confuse everyone). Traveling on I-80
through Council Bluff, IA, turn off at the Lake Manawa exit and drive
South to Highway 275/92. Turn right and drive to South 11Th Street.
Turn left (South) and drive to the stop sign. You will be looking at
the lake; stay on South 11Th Street (left road along the lake). Drive
until you see the bikes on your left. There is parking for trailers,
and restroom facilities.

This Ride is Captained by Mark Croft. Thanks Mark for your efforts
and I hope to see you then.

All the calendars in my house say June 14th, 2007 will be a Thursday.
Is it at all possible you may have meant June 17th, 2007?

We are looking for a few good men and women to help us pre-ride the route for the Omaha Chapter's Loess Hills Road Ride scheduled for June 2, 2007.

We will be meeting "somewhere obvious" in Onawa.  "Somewhere Obvious" has not yet been determined, but we will be hard to miss.....

If you are familiar with the Hills in that area and are willing and able to take the afternoon to determine the Ride route with us, meet us in Onawa at Noon on May 21st.

still on.

Please give directions from hiwy 36 and 72nd street to your house.

have says your leaving at 10:59 and the news letter said 12:00 noon.

Information for the Omaha Chapter's Black Hills RR on September 4,5,
& 6th is in the summer issure of the AMCA magazine that arrived at my
house yesterday. It's on the upper left corner of page 63. I would
suggest that those who plan to stay at the Host motel, the Best
Western, get their reservations early to receive the chapters
discount. The rental per night is 63.00 and covers up to 4 people in
a room. Other motels in Hill City may be cheaper, however, I have
not checked prices in those motels. I listed 4 motels in the add but
if you look on the web page for Hill City SD you will find even more
motels.

The Best Western has ample parking for vehicles and trailers
attached. There is a restaurant at the Best Western. For those who
have never visited the Black Hills of South Dakota, Hill City is
centrally located in the hills area.

the area from Pisgah north to Onawa that morning and the area north
and east after lunch in Onawa. Is anyone familiar with the town of
Climbing Hill? The weather forcast looks good and I'm looking forward

I may hole up at my Dad's house in Jefferson, South Dakota, Sunday night.  That would make Monday morning's ride considerably shorter and undoubtedly warmer.  I won't be meeting you in Crescent (Don't they make wrenches there?) but look forward to seeing you at "Someplace Obvious" on the World's Widest Main Street (downtown Onawa) at High Noon on Monday.

Castana, Mapleton, Smithland, Oto, Climbing Hill.
F20L, L16, E34, L32, 141, 31, D54, 982, E16/L20.

Fun, and ice cream, for all.
Regarding the roads in the Loess hills, the only knowledge I have is
that the blacktop running between Woodbine and Pisgah was toast about a
week ago. Culvert washed out pretty close to Pisgah.
I'll see if I can hear more on the subject before Monday.

Due to a questionable, ok crummy, weather forecast, and since I've got a new toy, tonight looks like a dual sport night.  Leaving my house soon after 5:30 and probably just riding the gravel, dirt and mud roads around Fort Calhoun, maybe up to Blair for dinner.  While we'll probably wait out any torrential downpours to leave, it seems like we usually come home in them.  Part of the adventure.
