Description

OLDWEST-REENACTORS -- Discussion of American Frontier and Old West historical Reenacting. Moderated mailing list covers a broad range of subjects from the period 1830-1900 such as clothing, weapons, food, first-person impressions, safety, and event schedules.

Q: What is the OLDWEST-REENACTORS Mailing List?
A: It is a free (commercially supported) e-mailing list for the exchange and discussion of reenacting the American Frontier and the Old West (originally hosted by eGroups).

Q: What is Old West Reenacting?
A: Reenacting is the Investigation, Interpretation and Presentation of historic events. This can be a specific episode in history or a generic culmination of a lifestyle or mode of living. Reenacting can be done for the purpose of entertaining or educating an audience, individual gratification through first-person "time travel," or combinations thereof.
Old West reenacting pertains to the live recreation of the American Frontier from roughly the years 1830-1900, using information gleaned from primary research sources or period folklore.

Q: Do I have to be a reenactor to participate?
A: Not necessarily, but its helpful ;-)
All that is required is a sincere interest in the history or heritage if the American Frontier, some basic etiquette and a willingness to share and entertain ideas and experiences.

Q: What is this list NOT?
A: It is not a place to refight old battles, nor to promote religious, ethnic, political nor cultural supremacy.
It is not a place to hawk wares, though discussions by or about sutlers and suppliers are encouraged.
It is not a chat room. Discussions are in the form of complete e-mail letters, and all the rules of polite letter-writing should apply.
